Unfortunately, not all software lends itself to be installed as an application. Also, some user scripts we have don't actually get installed so setting a detection rule is impossible.

Users find it confusing as to why some applications in Software Center have nice new icons and others have a grey square with arrows. Please let us add shiny, new icons to old packages as it will make the user experience much better
