How can we improve Configuration Manager?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  1. Add DLP

We had to move away from SCEP to a "real" AV product. The main reason was due to the lack of data loss prevention in SCEP. If you added DLP, better reporting, an easy way determine what files had been quarantined and an easy way to restore files I may consider switching back. I just don't feel like SCEP is a full thought out AV solution. Instead it seems to be some afterthought that MS can't figure out what they want to do with. It deserves a dedicated console or at least a dedicated node inside ConfigMgr.

    • Dataware house service point and MBAM compliance information (sccm 1702 and later)

When sccm deletes old computer information (as per the scheduled system maintenace task), compliance information for Bitlocker is also removed for that computer.
Can the datawarehouse servicepoint also copy MBAM compliance to the datawarehouse database (when MBAM is integrated with SCCM).

      • Generar alertas

Generar alertas enviadas por Correo Electronico cuando el inventario de hardware halla detectado algun cambio, es decir que un equipo antes tenia 4GB y en su procimo ciclo de inventario tenga 2GB que genere una alerta de ese cambio de RAM.

            • In the Summary views for a software update or software update group, make the statistics link through to a list of the machines

In the Software Library summary tab for SUGs and individual updates, make the Statistics pie chart and Compliant, Non-Compliant and Unknown counts link to a dynamic collection of machines in a specific state, similar to the Endpoint Protection monitoring views.

              • Asset Intelligence for hardware requirements

Under Asset Intelligence for hardware requirements can you add TPM? with Cred Guard, Device Guard, BitLocker and other new features coming from Microsoft this would be a nice check to have built-in.

                  • Link groups or steps together in Task Sequence

Would be nice to have the ability to link identical groups or steps together, so that when you change one, all the linked ones also change.

This could be useful if you for example have a lot of repeating tasks in different parts of the task sequence, for example adjustments after reboots, or with different groups for software installations (where the steps are the same).

Groups\steps would probably need a "Link ID" and a visual change to reflect that the group\step is a linked group\step in the Task Sequence Editor.

Hi. Thanks for the feedback. What you’re suggesting is covered with this item – https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/8339997-daisy-chain-task-sequences-osd-and-non-osd

The idea being steps that are common would be seen as modular – so with the modular steps in a ‘parent’ task sequence(s) an update to the modular would then update in all.

Please have a read of the link and let me know if that will address your ask. If so then I’ll merge the votes.

You’ll also see a comment that the Nested Task Sequence has disappeared from Tech Preview – that will be rectified shortly.

                    • Be able to recover deleted task sequences.

Be able to recover deleted task sequences. In case of accidental deletion.

                      • Whenever the Task Sequence fails, give a DIRECT way to EASILY show and/or save the smsts log WHEREVER it is buried.

Because it occurs quite often since there are so many ways to make a TS fail, and the guy in front of the computer may be on the other side of the planet, not knowing what a CLI is...

                        • Bug - SCCM 2012 SP2 CU3 - Software Updates are all set to a 10 minute timeout.

All software updates are set to 10 minutes, and newer SCCM will set the new cumulative updates to 30 minutes. But SCCM 2012 leaves this setting at 10 minutes. Some updates are already 1gb+ in size, therefore are timing out when deployed.

                          • More details reports OOB and easily dashboard that can be easily customize for SCEP

Our security guys find that the OOB reports are not as details as let say Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager. Would love to see out of the box reports. Also, the Collection drop down list on the reports or console in relationship to SCEP does not work well with RBA. I have multiple I.T departments and I set up Collections for each sites for restriction where each site can only see their own collection. When in SCEP, the drop down collection list will show as empty.

                                • Remove Deleted Content from Client Cache

Today, when you remove an object from ConfigMgr (Package, application, etc), the content remains in the local client cache (if it was ever downloaded). In an effort to clean up that old content, I think it would be a great idea to automatically cleanup content. For example, once I delete an image from the admin console, I will never need it again on my client systems, so go ahead and delete it from any system that has it in the cache.

(I currently use TidyCache to remove 'old' cache', but would prefer that this be handled natively by ConfigMgr. https://gregramsey.net/2015/11/17/tidy-cache-clean-up-old-ccmcache/

                                  • Management Point Extension

ConfigMgr has a great, well known and tested connection with its managed clients. Companies sometimes need to extend this environment to achieve more with less. Having the option to extend the Management Point functionality with the SDK would be a great addition.

What i have in mind would be:
1- be able to extend the client settings options (like a hardware inventory, etc. where the IT Admin can add a schedule for a task to happen)
2- all clients with a DLL installed (manually or via SCCM itself), will execute the task on a schedule basis
                                    3- SCCM client will…

                                    • Do not allow "SMS" as Site Code Name

I found some customers which has "SMS" as name of SCCM site. This make a lot of problems with normal management. This name should also be make as do not allowed (wizard blocks also other names). And if already named, it should allow one time change.

We do document this, and this has been the case since at least SMS 2003.

                                        See:
                                        https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/279868/reserved-site-code-names-in-sms-2003-and-configuration-manager
                                        https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/servers/deploy/install/prepare-to-install-sites

I’ve also confirmed that Setup disallows you from using the several “reserved” site code names and has done so since at least 2012 SP2.

Was unattended setup used? That’s the only way I can think of that may have bypassed this validation.

                                      • IIS application pool check on upgrade and on MP settings change

I stumbled upon a problem where someone added one additional virtual directory in "CCM CLient Deployment Pool". And because of that the result was that clients couldn't connect to MP and didn't et applications and updates and policies. IIS was misconfigured -> "CCM Server Framework Pool" was missing and instead of that there was "BEGIN PROPERTY" application pool. Reason was that setup couldn't delete "CCM CLient Deployment Pool" and after that all was messed up. I think that there should be better error handling in case when there are problems with deleting/creating/recreating IIS Application pools. Right now upgrade went without…

                                        • Add "Product Family" to the search feature of Software Updates and ADR

Currently, the "Product" can be used as a search filter for Software Updates node and for ADRs, but I would like to see "Product Family" as well.

This would help in situations where you want all updates targeting the Windows OS products, but you don't want to specify 10 individual products in a search.
