How can we improve Configuration Manager?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Incorporate Configuration Manager Servicing Extension's RSS and notification feature to the main product

Today Configuration Manager Servicing Extension brings new functionality to the product but it is a separate download. RSS reader can display recent blog postings from the System Center Configuration Manager Team Blog and The Configuration Manager Support Team Blog right to the Admin console. Make this functionality built-in to the main product

    • remote tools - increase security

remote tools allows the end-user to disconnect the session. the problem with this is if the user that logs on what the IT Admin, the user can disconnect him/her and use their account instead of their own.

this scenario is common on a help desk, so it would be good to know who logged on (remote or local) and when the connection is lost, automatically lock/log off the session.

      • Changes only in case not understood while renaming collections

Minor bug and easy to work around, just thought I'd point it out:

        Original collection name: "Foo Bar"

        Action: Rename to "Foo BAR"
        Expected result: "Foo BAR"
Actual result: "Foo Bar" (no change)

Action: Rename to "Foo Bar Baz"
        Action: Rename to "Foo BAR"
        Actual result: "Foo BAR"

Basically, if you rename a collection and change *only* the case, SCCM doesn't "get the memo" ;).

        • Add Tenant ID and Service Instance to the Microsoft Intune Subscription View in Admin Console

It is always hard to find tenantID, Onmicrosoft.com address and Service Instance when managing Intune in Hybrid.
It would be of great help if we could get this information in the Microsoft Intune Subscription View in the ConfigMgr Admin Console

            • SMSDPMon.log Size

Currently can't find a way to customize log size. Tried updating HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SMS\DP\Logging\@Global without success. Logs are 500KB by default and can't find a way to adjust them. It would be nice if it was at least 2.5MB by default or even better, customizable.

              • Integrate Microsoft Custom Support program into SCCM.

The current process requires logging into a separate website; downloading the required updates, Scan cab files and/or .xml files running the WSUS Import tool or wsusutil.exe. Then you need to approve the updates in WSUS and then maybe, if nothing went wrong somewhere must run a sync with SCCM in order to make the updates available through Software Updates in SCCM.

                • Move OU task sequence step

I would like a simple ability to move a computer object to another OU during the task sequence.

                      • OSD Deployment List Variables

I believe that SCCM should have a means of adding a list of selectable values in the Task Sequence for OSD's. That is to say I add a Variable for "Department" this should then present during a deployment several options to choose from such as "Sales", "HR" or "ICT" So on and so forth. I would then be able to define custom actions dependent on the value of the "Department" Variable.

It would be nice if this would work via PXE or Via External Media. I would love to hear feedback and would definitely love to see Microsoft pick this…

                        • Service Mode on WES7

When the config manager package is made part of the task sequence, the device remains in service mode until the next window. Workaround was to use a 24hr maintenance window.

Please can this be fixed in the next release of a hotfix created

                            • Create multiple copies of task sequence media

There should be an option asking how many copies you want to create. When the first copy is created, the user should be prompted to insert the second empty media to format (if needed) and continue the process. It should use the same cache that was created when the first media was created. Whether USB or CD/DVD, if I want to create 3 standalone media of the same task sequence the packages have to be downloaded 3 separate times, wasting time and bandwidth.

                              • Can't run ContentLibraryCleanup.exe on DPs in other domains

The ContentLibraryCleanup.exe will only execute in the domain that the primary site is in. I have a flat SCCM structure with only a primary site server and multiple distribution points. The DPs that are in the same domain as the primary work fine. If the DP is in an untrusted domains, the ContentLibraryCleanup.exe failes to run and returns and access denied message.

                                • Custom Client Settings and Hardware Inventory Class setting Merge

Custom Client Settings and Hardware Inventory Class Merge

Request is to Add some more details to explain the behaviour with respect to multiple custom client setting and Hardware Inventory merge on this page.
                                  https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh301103.aspx

if we could just mention, not checking a class in a custom client setting with highest priority doesn't mean the class would not be inventoried. Not checking a class doesn't mean disabled. it's like not configured. So if someone has to not inventory a particular class on most of the machine except few. Then they have to work around with disabling the class on default client…

                                  • Update (CUs) behavoiur on Reports (Report Re-Creation)

All MS reports are recreated/overwritten during an update, no matter whether something has changed or not. The update logic checks whether the report has been modified, if so, an ‘OLD’ version will be created to prevent that individual changes on the default reports will get overwritten. A manual clean-up is necessary afterwards, but mostly nothing has changed anyway within the updated report --> only reports that have changed should be recreated/updated to ease checks on whether modifications are needed.

                                    • More characters in the OSD Task Sequence description

I would like more space in the OSD Task Sequence description field (and possibly even include a link) so that we can adequately tell people what's required before and after running the Task Sequence and to tell them where to find help.

At the moment, we only have 2-3 lines of text available.

Perhaps replicate what's currently available in the application model with the Localised description on the Application catalog tab.

                                      • Maintenance Windows vNext

Please do not force us to use UTC for maintenance Windows in vNext. This will overcomplicate MW's across multiple time zones.

                                        • Task Sequence Steps - Add ability to run step under specific account already stored in "Administration > Security > Accounts"

The ability to run a step under a specific account is fantastic but if it had the functionality to select from a list of the service accounts already being used by Configuration manager, then updating all task sequences when you change the password would be a much simpler task.
