  1. Remote Control - Initiate a Wake-Up if client turned off

When remote controlling a device it would be great if a prompt could come up and ask if you want to wake-up the device either using Wake-On-LAN or Wake-Up in client notification based on site configuration if the client is turned off..

  2. The ability to tell an SCCM client to IGNORE specific NICS for site determination or SCCM Client communications

The ability to tell an SCCM client to IGNORE specific NICS for site determination or SCCM Client communications.

We have a number of clients that are multi-homed, the SCCM client is often choosing interface that cannot communication with the SCCM infrastructure to determine site membership.

Our clusters fall into this category. 'secure web application servers' that have a "Client Network", "Admin Network", "Backup Network" and "Management Network" connections.

May something similar to the NOSMS file, that will tell the client to not use specific interfaces but continue to inventory, configure, etc.

  3. Add TFPBlockSize and TFTPWindowsSize to the DP configuration page in the Admin Console

It would great to be able to configure TFTPBlocksize and TFTPWindowsSize on PXE-enabled DPs from the Configuraiton Manager console, and not having to edit the registry or to use Configuration Item/Baseline to do this. An option on the PXE tab in the Distribution Point properties please?!

  4. Provide the ability to set an "expiration date" on a DEPLOYMENT

Even thought Applications are state based there are still use cases when a deployment could be expired so that no future deployments of that application will occur. Either an expiration or the use of automatically disabling the deployment, since Software Updates could be disabled so should Software Application Deployments. The reason to keep the deployment would be for reporting so a way to disable or expire would be ideal if state based is not needed.

The sms_applicationassignment WMI class exposes an ExpirationTime property which actually removes deployments from App Catalog but it does not work with software center.

  5. Create quick deployment report by right-click > Export to Excel

The current monitoring and reporting functionality is somewhat clunky and time-consuming. Being able to right-click an existing deployment under Monitoring\Deployments and export the last-summarized status to an Excel sheet would be an evolutionary leap forward in user-friendlyness for the admin console.

  6. Configuration Manager Remote Control Connection History

Having the ability to look through a dropdown history of connections would make reconnecting easier and shouldn't cause too much programming hassle.

Having a log of connections with date/time of connection/disconnection, IP of source and destination would also be valuable to have as reference.

  8. Ability to Export Task Sequence (TS) for Documentation Purposes in Friendly Format

It would incredibly useful to have a native ability in ConfigMgr to export a task sequence into an easily viewed format that can be utilised as part of design documentation for customers. Either into an Excel spreadsheet with appropriate formatting or possibly html.

The alternative to this is complex Excel spreadsheets which are very time consuming or using unsupported export methods such as those described in this TechNet blog post: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/deploymentguys/2009/02/20/documenting-your-task-sequences-automagically-update-v2/

I know quite a few consultants who would absolutely love to see this feature added to save a lot of time and effort which could otherwise be utilised doingā€¦

  9. Software Updates - Need an Option to Control the Auto deployment of Revised updates

WSUS has an inbuilt option to control the approval /Auto Approval of revised updates.
However ConfigMgr is missing this feature. This is causing the revised updates to get auto installed on the clients if the deployment is active.
The latest example for this issue was KB3172605. This was revised by MS and caused auto install with reboot on clients

  11. Add an additional Maintenance Windows type specifically for Application Deployments only

Add an additional Maintenance Window type specifically for Application Deployments only. Software Updates and Task sequences have their own and there is an "All Deployments" type. There needs to be one on for Apps to better segregate the nature of the changes occurring in the environment.

  12. Built-in Web Service for OSD tasks

Maik Koster has created an excellent Web Service for performing tasks e.g. during OSD, like removing a device from a collection. I think it would be a great idea to have a Site System Role for OSD where you have a built-in step in the TS to choose various tasks to perform during OSD.

  13. More criteria for client certificate selection

Currently the selection criteria when more than one certificate is available are limited to the options ā€œClient authentication capabilityā€, ā€œCertificate Subject contains stringā€, ā€œCertificate Subject or SAN includes attributeā€. This really limits the usability of the feature.
It would be great if there are additional selection criteria like ā€œIssuerā€ or ā€œCertificate Templateā€.

  14. Software Center Required Deployment Default User Options

Allow the ability to change the default radio button on the Software Center Dialog Box that is notifying users about "Critical Software Maintenance must be..."
I'd like to change this per deployment. Example, I'd like Software Updates to keep the default it has now "Right now"
but change some Applications or a TS to "Outside my Business Hours". I'm going to have users launch that popup when they see the toast notification, and click "OK" to get rid of the window, then the Upgrade TS will start and make for an unhappy user experience.

I'd like to keep the toastā€¦

  15. Allow Users to defer installation until some date/time during Enforcement Grace Period

When users receive notification of upcoming required deployment, allow users a 4th option to defer install date to be sometime during grace period. This could be a date input field with a drop down calendar. Available dates should be between deadline and end of grace period.

The notification would have 4 options:
    1. Install Right Now
    2. Install After Business Hours
    3. Defer Install on a specific date during grace period <-- This being new
    4. Snooze notification

Additionally, when notification appears for deferred install date...user can choose a new deferred install date as long as the user is withinā€¦

  17. Run Scripts: Need ability to schedule execution

Since version 1707 it's now possible to run Powershell scripts for a collection, but these scripts cannot be scheduled. It would be of real value if these Powershell scripts could be scheduled.

  18. More Intelligent Client Cache

With SCCM 2012 we got the single instance store on the back end which reduces the need for storage significantly on the server side but on the client side there's no optimization whatsoever.
If you for example have 2 applications or deployment types which are using the same or almost the same content they are downloaded both separately. This has a negatively impact on the disk space you need to reserve for the client cache but also on the bandwidth used to download almost twice the same content. I believe this can be done better.
    Many folks had to configureā€¦

  19. Use a fixed-width font (like consolas) for better script readability in ConfigMgr in all text-boxes where you type or paste scripts

There are several areas in the Configuration Manager Console with text fields for entering or pasting scripts. The Scripts feature, CI Detection and Remediation, Application Detection, etc. The font used in these areas is not script friendly. Tabs and spaces are hard to discern and the scripts look downright messy. Using Consolas or another monospaced font would preserve the nice looking formatting you've just copied out of somewhere like VS Code, and would make the script easier to read when you go to look at it later in the ConfigMgr Console. Please change it :)

Thank you for this great idea. This is something we are looking improve for Configuration Manager 2010. The 2007 Technical Preview now uses fixed-width fonts in the following areas of the console:

    • Application scripts
    • Configuration item scripts
    • WMI-based collection membership queries
    • CMPivot queries
    • Scripts
    • Task Sequence PowerShell scripts and command lines

Some additional fixes have also been made to further improve these scenarios:

    • Resizable windows for viewing/entering scripts
    • Using horizontal scrolling instead of word wrapping for scripts

Please try it out and send us a frown if there’s anything we missed or any other areas you’d like to see fixed width font support.

  20. Incorrect statistics in monitoring of deployment

When viewing the completetion statistics of an application it says that an amount of deployments have experienced errors, in this case 11. When I go to the tab "Errors" when inside "Deployment Status" i only see two errors.

I have seen this in other applications too, statistics reports alot of errors but when i open the "Errors" tab its empty.

If i run the report "Application infrastructure errors" i can see that the amount of errors reported in the statistics match the number of errors in the report. Most of them are "CI documents download timed out" (which i haveā€¦
