  1. Built-in Web Service for OSD tasks

Maik Koster has created an excellent Web Service for performing tasks e.g. during OSD, like removing a device from a collection. I think it would be a great idea to have a Site System Role for OSD where you have a built-in step in the TS to choose various tasks to perform during OSD.

    • Task Sequence Error Dialog Box Needs to Show Step Name

The error dialog box for the task sequence shows the error code, but does not show you what step threw the error.
      - Show the step name on the default error dialog box.
      - The modal dialog box for errors goes directly over the progress dialog box, so you can’t see the step from there without using the mouse.
      - You may not have mouse support, especially when you are RDPing into a box with a VMware or Hyper-V console… which means this is REALLY frustrating

      • An option to install only on Corporate owned devices

Just as we can choose to only install applications on user's Primary devices, it would be great with the same option for Corporate Owned devices. Then we can deploy certificates, wifi, email, apps and so on to the User and if the user uses a Corporate owned device he will get it installed. It would save time, speed and preserve the User first concept!

        • Improved automation and extensibility by exposing Configuration Manager functionality through a REST web API

Exposing Configuration Manager functionality through RESTful web API's would open up a whole new world for interacting with ConfigMgr.
E.g. a web Admin console and easier integration with Service Management Automation (SMA).
It should also be easier for 3rd party vendors to create new web based solutions for say an self-service portal or a Windows App for tracking an OS or application deployment on a mobile device or phone.
Personally I would really like any easier way to interact with ConfigMgr. when running in Windows PE (OS Deployment) or a web portal for non-admins to provision new or existing machine…

          • Remote Control of Mobile devices using SCCM/Intune

SCCM/Intune is lacking one very important feature for MDM - Remote Control of Mobile devices(Windows Phone, IOS, Android platform) which is crucial for enterprises which have big departments whose employees are remote workers and uses tablets or/and phones as primary business tool and often require remote support on this devices. This feature is already implemented in almost any serious MDM solution on market for a while.

            • Remote tools - client setting to change client service to Automatic startup

One of the biggest issues I hear with the Remote Tools is that when you restart a machine it takes a couple of minutes before you can remote control it again. This is due to the delayed start of the service. I assume that this cannot be changed per default but give us the option using a client setting to change it to Automatic instead of using a GPO would be really sweet!
This is very similar to the following feedback item. https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/8471107-fix-remote-control-bug-after-client-reboot#comments

              • Make the client report who’s logged on

Policy requests are made on computer level. When assigning an application to a computer we regularly trigger a machine policy request to speed up the installation. This is not possible when user assignment is used, as we don’t know which computer(s) the user is currently logged on to. We can guess by checking for example “Last logon User Name”, this is however not live data and thus not very accurate. If the client instead reported who’s logged on as part of the user policy request at log on, we would know. This would allow to trigger a User policy request…

                • Maintenance window relative to patch Tuesday

Maintenance window relative to patch Tuesday

It would be very helpful to be able to set maintenance windows to be relative to Patch Tuesday. For example, apply patches on the 1st Saturday after patch Tuesday, or the second Sunday after patch Tuesday. Since patch Tuesday changes each month, the current "second Saturday of the month" type options are not useful when Patch Tuesday could fall before or after that depending on the calendar.

                  • Use SQL Backup with Compression for the backup task

With CM 1511, SMS Backup task enabled by default. And that does a volume shadow copy of the DB which means full-sized files. For my tiny lab that means I'm backing up 8 GB alone.

For production it'll mean 850GB per primary site. Under CM12 when we backup just SQL using compression, it's just 160GB per primary site.

Please allow an option to just invoke a database backup instead so that compression can be used and I don't need to go order terabytes of data just for backups.

Also the current backup just erases the last backup. But in a…

                    • Status Messages in the SCCM Console

Status messages are amazingly helpful in the SCCM console, but difficult to get to. For instance, whoever wrote the status messages for Task Sequence deployments did an amazing job, yet I cannot access these without making a custom query! This is an amazing troubleshooting tool that is hidden from the average user.

I'd like to get access to status messages from the object that makes the status message. For instance, if I right click on a task sequence deployment, I want to be able to view all status messages associated with that object. If I right click on a distribution…

                      • Add TFPBlockSize and TFTPWindowsSize to the DP configuration page in the Admin Console

It would great to be able to configure TFTPBlocksize and TFTPWindowsSize on PXE-enabled DPs from the Configuraiton Manager console, and not having to edit the registry or to use Configuration Item/Baseline to do this. An option on the PXE tab in the Distribution Point properties please?!

                        • Add more features to Remote Control

                          Implement
                          - Buttons like Open the Windows 8/10 charms bar.
                          - Windows Shortcuts.
                          - allow x sessions to one Client.
                          - usable Multi-Montior Support
                          - Data Transfer Features

Teamviewer functions should be the baseline.

                          • SCCM updates: User Experience - Reboot notifications

Here is the User experience for the update process as I understand it:

                            1. System tray balloon appears saying 'software changes are required'

                            2. System tray balloon appears saying 'downloading and installing software'

                            3. System tray balloon appears saying 'Restart required: Recently installed updates require your machine to be restarted'

                            4. *It is here I would like the larger temporary notification reboot window to appear but it doesn't.

                            5. Permanent notification reboot window appears and stays on the screen

I would like option 4 to be possible. Without this it seems quite easy for users to miss seeing the balloon…

                              • Support to image mounted vhd drives

With this ability you can expand the capabilities of your task sequence in so many ways, ie using VHD's to create a Kiosk/steady state solution.

Please add support to be able to apply operating system images to mounted VHD drives.

Currently a permission issue prevents this.

                                • Allow defining custom OMA-URI settings for Windows 10 clients with ConfigMgr client

Currently you cannot define custom OMA-URI settings for Windows 10 clients with ConfigMgr client. You can only define quite limited set of settings. Unfortunately, there are some important OMA-URI settings that should be set on all Windows 10 clients (DataProtection/AllowDirectMemoryAccess), which are not part of limited available settings.

This is now one example, but there will be other examples in the future.

Currently, there is not good way to deploy the setting easily to all clients in the environment.

                                    • Add the ability to deploy and manage drivers post OS deployment

what would be great to see is a mechanism which would allow for the deployment of drivers to client computers post the OSD. ideally it would be fantastic if it can use the same driver package as is used in the OS Deployment to save the administrative overhead needing to have 2 different ways to deploy updated drivers like we need to today where we package the drivers for OS deployment, while to deploy to the existing hardware we need to depend upon the vendors installation package which in some cases don't allow silent installation so requires a large amount…

                                      • OS Deployment completion screen

Sometimes a task sequence can fail without the technican noticing the reboot countdown, so they just see a login screen and assume everything is okay. How about a "OS Deployment Failed/Succeeded" splash screen at completion? MDT (UDI) has a completion screen, although it doesn't show on error. Still - something like that.

                                        • add a powershell possibility to add requirements to a deploymenttype of an application

At the moment it is not easy to add requirements to an application deploymenttype with PowerShell. I think many of us would benefit if this would be simplified.

(correction: this change was too late for 1704, it will be in 1705)

For 1705 TP we have added an initial ability to add detection method clauses to a MSI, Script, or Mac deployment type.

                                            For more details see: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/ameltzer/2017/04/20/powershell-how-to-add-enhanced-detection-methods-to-deployment-types-1704-tp/

Please try it out and let us know what you think. We don’t have full UI parity yet but this is something we are working toward.
