How can we improve Configuration Manager?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. content library logging

Could logging for content library be improved.
Recently had a situation where the ini, sig files weren't created in the FileLib. Noticed the logs weren't helpful when it came to actions managing the content library on distribution points. This made resolving difficult.

  2. Add size column to application deployment types

It would be useful if in the console each application deployment type had its own "Size" column, and maybe the application itself could have a "total size" column of all the deployment types combined.

  3. An option to configure a DP such that it only downloads the distributed content from the site when the first client requests for it.

An option to configure a DP such that it only downloads the distributed content from the site when the first client requests for it. This will help manage DP disk space efficiently as most of the content never gets used at a remote site but we do not know what's really needed in advance. With semi annual channels the content problem is getting worse each day.

Below is the config manager thread I had opened and an expert asked me to submit a request here.

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c249e600-b781-43ee-9aae-0b0efb6ba078/question-about-sccm-content-distribution?forum=ConfigMgrCBGeneral

  4. Simplify finding the current month's software updates

Provide a dashboard or view that displays the current month's software updates. Allow for selecting of updates and a button to create a software update group directly. Basically, simplify the process of identifying the updates needed to deploy each month.

  5. Ability to move Distribution point from one secondary site server to another secondary site server' has been merged into this idea

when we need to remove secondary site server or when need to rebuild secondary site server with another site code. A full uninstall and re install required for all Distribution points associated with that secondary site.
Also when we need to move a DP from one site code to another site code, it requires uninstall / re installā€¦.to avoid this it will be helpful to have ability to move DPā€™s between secondaries.

  7. View Collection Dependencies

It would be really nice to be able to see a list of the collections that are limited to a specific collection with a tab on the properties of that collection.

  8. End of Life

A good feature to include is the ability to scan a server/workstation and find software that is at or nearing end of life state.

  9. Possibility to set for how long and deploy application should be ""new"

I would like the Possibility to set for how long and deploy application should be ""new" in Software Center
Today it's say every time I log on that i have I new application available in software center.
I might already have installed or don't want to install it.
Should be good that we have a setting that control this so we could set it to show 2-3 time or for 1-2 day

  10. Run Scripts: Show PowerShell Intellisense in script editor prompts

Now that we have the ability in TP1706 to upload and run PowerShell scripts against endpoints, it has exposed the need to be able to tab complete and validate syntax with intellisense from the console. I'm not asking you to recreate the PowerShell ISE/VSCode, just some rudimentary intellisense for when you are working on the Admin Console.

  11. ADR add possibility to set a User for "download software updates from a location on my network"

Please add a possibility to specify a user which the ADR will use to download the content.
In a infrastructure with a DMZ and a own untrusted domain, it is not possible to set a user which is downloading the Updates from a WSUS. Till now SCCM is always using the system account of the Site Server to download the Updates.

  12. Client Settings Priority - Set value using text input

My Company has almost 30 client setting profiles. I would like to see the ability of using a text entry box to set the priority of the client settings instead of using the "increase" and "decrease" mouse clicks. When creating a new client settings, it takes too many mouse clicks to get it to the correct priority.

  13. Automatic refresh/update after you do "Update distribution point"

When updating a package over "Update distribution point" we always have to click outside of the section/folder in order to get an updated status of the package we are updating. It would be nice to have it automatically refreshed only for that particular software.

  14. Remote control via notification agent

It could be great if we allow triggering the client via the notification agent to start remote controlling,
So an admin could still start a remote control task from the console but the client will actually create the session.

    this way we could:
    1. eliminate the need for port 2701 to the clients
    2. eliminate the need for client DNS name resolving
    3. potentially, allow remote control via Cloud Management Gateway for internet clients

  15. Display Security Scopes and Collections columns by default under Administrative Users

Many organizations struggle a lot with the concepts in Role Based Administration. One of the things I see that helps them immensely to see how they've misapplied security is to simply turn on the Scopes and Collections column views under Administrative Users. While the Roles are shown by default, without the Scopes and Collections, there isn't enough context for them to understand what is actually set up.

Please display the Security Scopes and Collections columns by default under the Administrative Users view in the ConfigMgr console. This will help people understand RBA at a glance much more easily.

    Thanks forā€¦

  16. CB1606 Hardware Inventory - Client Events - Show friendly names

A new class popped up in CB1606 Hardware Inventory called Client Events. It includes an Event Name (GUID) and a count. Please also include a friendly name for the events.

  17. Allow Boolean Parameter Types in RunScripts

The addition of Parameters to Scripts was a welcome feature however it'd be nice to also support the boolean parameter type. While other parameter types (arrays, switch, etc.) would be helpful, I feel that most of them could be reproduced (smartly) by using String, or Boolean for most situations.

  18. Add tab for Antimalware Policies on Collection view similar to Device view

Although AM Policies are deployed to Collections just like Custom Client Settings, there isn't a tab to show you deployed AM Policies on collection console views.

Bonus points: Look at Device view and Collection view tabs, and make the names congruent ("Custom Client Settings" vs. "Client Settings")

Super Bonus Points: Resultant Set of Antimalware Polies view which has been suggested elsewhere for a long time (https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/10237263-add-a-view-for-resultant-set-of-policy-for-anti-ma
    and
    https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/8398638-policy-resultant-for-scep-policy-like-clients-sett)

Super Extra Bonus Points: Resultant Set of Client Settings and Resultant Set of Antimalware Policies should clearly show what pages were set by what policy. (https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/14855388-resultant-set-of-client-settings-should-show-what)

    Thanks!

  19. Allow using a custom icon for software center

The new branding options in Software Center are fantastic. With the ability to add a logo and web content, it really does look fantastic and users seem to have been receptive.

The final touch would be the ability to customize the icon on the start menu through client settings. We could do that in a GPO, but it's clunky.

  20. use Reliability Monitor/SystemStabilityIndex in inventory, client health and cmpivot

System Reliability Monitor is the integrated Windows 10 Troubleshooting tool which is a filter to the eventlog, looking at performance and stability related information
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/technet-magazine/dd362384(v=msdn.10)
For example you can find out since you installed a driver or app the system gets unstable

this data should be used in #configmgr client health, inventory and cmpivot

There is an number, the SystemStabilityIndex

    get-wmiobject Win32_ReliabilityStabilityMetrics -property "SystemStabilityIndex" | select-object -first 1 SystemStabilityIndex

Based on that we could create collections of good and bad performing machines or query cmpivot
