How can we improve Configuration Manager?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Improve Content Replication

Content Replication from Site to DPs should be a frustration free Process or SCCM Admins. Unfortunately, I know no customer without smaller or bigger issues in this area.
Here is an uncomplete list of some issues I´ve noticed:
    • Content Eval - Scheduled Task lost
o SCCM does not check if the schedule task got lost/deleted
o Suggested Solution: SCCM should verify the Scheduled Task on Service Startup
    • Content Eval - Hash mismatch/Eval fails for package
o When content Eval fails for a package, the admin must manually redistribute it / take care of the error
    o There should…

  2. Show live distribution status within the console

Show the live status of content copying to distribution points (status bar) in the Admin console, Essentially the existing DP Job queue Manager

  3. User friendly progress tracking when distributing content to distribution points.

User friendly progress tracking when distributing content to distribution points. At the moment when asked how long it will take to have content available one needs to track the logs and guess a time frame. If it would be possible to have a progress tracker i.e. speed at which the content is copying, queue tracking, and eta.

  4. List DP jobs for secondary sites in DP Job Queue Manager

Please provide a solution in DP Job Queue Manager to view the job status in secondary sites.

  5. Feature Request: Introduce a 'Remediate' option for Package/DPs for remediating package failures.

When a package fails to distribute to a DP, the only option right now is to 'Redistribute' the package to the DP. This is inefficient for large packages since 'Redistribute' transfers all package content to the DP even if some content may have already been transferred prior to the failure. For large packages, this not only takes a lot of time but consumes more network bandwidth than necessary.

When a package is 'added' to the DP, only the missing files are copied to the DP however there is no way to simulate an 'add' action from the UI.

    Having the…

  6. Support additional distmgr/pkgxfer manager component servers in primary sites to support load balancing of software distribution jobs.

Some primary sites have many remote distributed DP site systems and this can cause many content jobs to be managed by a single distribution manager / package transfer manager, which can cause delays and in some cases heavy server resource utilisation. I would like to see Sccm support load balancing of content jobs across a primary site.

  7. Provide the ability to set the number of PullDP that can download at the same time.

By providing this settings, it would ease up massive distribution of a package to many PullDP.
A setting similar to Concurent download on DP would be perfect!

As of now, updating a package hosted on 1000 PullDP will trigger all PullDP at the same time to update the package.
This cause high CPU and IO on the server as well as potential network load.

  8. LiveFlow of DP to Network

Currently there is no centralized way within ConfigMgr to determine if the expected desire of boundaries for content / site assignment works as expected. As boundaries can be configured in multiple ways (subnet, ad, range etc) and also allows to fallback between different servers - it would be good to allow insight into what clients from what networks are connecting to a DP to retrieve content. This would allow if the current design works as expected.

    Information that would be useful for on-prem DP;
    1. Devices (COUNT?) connecting from network (initial octets/subnet-mask)
    2. Connectivity type: local, remote, fallback etc...
    3.…

Totally agree. Having realtime visibility into what boundaries clients are in RIGHT NOW, and thus which DPs (and peer clients) they will use is critical. We’ve been talking about this internally for awhile. There are innovations on our roadmap in this area.

  9. single distributionpoint strategie

it would be nice for customers that have only on DP, that the Site is change to a one DP strategy and automatic distribute every content to this single DP, without every time select this single DP and distribute content.

  10. PoSh register-PackageSource from Windows 10, would be nice to add a DP as a trusted Package Source

If CM-Agent installed on a Win10 Client it should be automatically add his first DP to the Posh as a register-PackageSource Repository, that we can Use that Command to install SW with the add-package command from a App-Deployment type, in faster cases to install SW on a client with remote Powershell and also registered in the Monitoring Workspace as installed, maybe in background the Posh adds the client with direct membership to the right collection that we lose no information's about that.

  11. Prevent the SCCM client from using hyper-v IP addresses

If you install Hyper-V on Windows 10, it will create a default adapter and randomly create an IP address, usually in the 172.x.x.x subnet. If by chance, you have a boundary that this random IP address falls into, the SCCM client will think it is part of this boundary, in addition to the boundary associated with it's physical NIC. The client considers both boundaries to be a Current boundary group and will therefore potentially download content from DP's associated within either boundary. In most situations, this additional DP will likely be across a WAN link which of course can cause…

  12. Shorten Pull-DP retry interval

Reduce the amount of time between when content distribution is completed on a Standard DP and when its Pull DP begins to transfer. Consider using some type of notification to the Pull DP that it may begin instead of having it just wait when it could be pulling.
