  1. Request to add support for Distribution Point Maintenance mode

Situations where maintenance mode is useful/needed:
    1. When the system (hardware) is in transit from the location where it was installed to the site where it is to be used in production.
    2. When the system is down for other maintenance (software patching and updates, OS configuration changes, hardware reconfiguration and other external factors causing planned or unplanned downtime).
The above outlined method for installing new DPs to remote locations is widely used for various reasons (For example to have a dedicated team at one location install machine and to avoid having to copy a large content library across WANā€¦

  2. Option to pre-download content to client cache for 'Available' deployments

As we know, 'Required' deployments download content to client cache as soon as possible assuming content is available and req's are met. A common scenario is setting a deadline off in the future which essentially stages or pre-downloads the content to the client cache so it's available as soon as the user hits install, or the deadline is reached.

We'd like an option, per deployment, to pre-download content in a similar fashion for 'Available' deployments.

Understood that available deployments may never get executed, but there are several scenarios (poorly connected, remote offices w/no DP) where this would be extremely desirable.ā€¦

    Hi. I’m updating to status=complete for our 1706 release – https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/enterprisemobility/2017/07/28/now-available-update-1706-for-system-center-configuration-manager/

Improvements for this scenario for Task Sequence/OS Deployments and OS Upgrade Packages include a new condition for language comparison and controls for selecting language rather than entering an LCID. This moves away from having to use a WMI query

These changes don’t address the asks for extending the same pre-cache functionality to Applications, SWD etc., closing this item will return your votes, please use them to add a new User Voice request

Thank you all for all your feedback and suggestions

  3. Rebuild a content library on a Distribution Point

A function to instruct a distribution point to clean-up/rebuild its content library would be great. This would be particularly useful to fix the "package list in content library doesn't match the one in WMI" errors.

We have 260+ DPs, all members of the same Distribution Group, and 35% of them have mis-matched content library sizes. So obviously content clean-up does not succeed. A way to force them to re-evaluate (without redistributing existing content) would be great.

  4. Integrate LEDBAT into ConfigMgr

LEDBAT is a Congestion Control Mechanism that's coming to Windows Server 2016/Windows 10. Successfully used by BitTorrent/Apple Software Update to reduce Bandwidth Saturation during content downloads. This would make WAN transfers of content by BITS (or any other mechanism) 'give way' to other business traffic. Would also improve Software Update scans and HW/Inv Uploads to the MP. LEDBAT makes sure that only unused bandwidth is used for the transfer.

  6. Distribution Points are by default NOT assigned the same priority

    CURRENT FUNCTIONALITY

When a new Distribution Point (DP) whether it is a normal DP or a Pull DP is installed to a ConfigMgr 2012 R2 site, the priority assigned to this new DP is always the same by default.

    REQUEST FOR CHANGE

It is often desired that Pull DPs are by default assigned lower priority than the normal DPs.

    MORE INFORMATION

When operating a site with many (hundreds of) DPs installed, the normal DPs serve as source distribution points for the Pull DPs. It is therefore desired, that those normal DPs will have the new package files copied over beforeā€¦

  7. Distribution point ordering/intelligence

Make it possible to assign multiple DP's to a boundary group with the ability assign an order in which they are accessed by clients. ATM if there are multiple DP's per boundary group and all are defined as fast (or slow), the DP is chosen randomly. At the very least a DP that resides in the same subnet with the client, should always take precedence,

With the boundaries group rearchitecture completed in 1702, these scenarios should now be solved… with much more granular control on when and how to fail over to different DPs. Also, the client will pick the same DP on the same subnet.

  8. Peer Cache Options

Add an option to have Peer Cache to work with boundary groups, subnet broadcast or both. My understanding is that 1607 Peer Cache will broadcast local subnet for peers that have the content, 1610 it's based off of Boundary groups. In environment, using boundary groups for peer cache will not work, like to have the option to tell the clients to use boundary group, subnet broadcast or both?

  9. Allow Pull DPs to download content from Cloud DPs

  10. Configure BranchCache settings from Client Settings in the Admin Console

Enables BranchCache in distributed mode on the client
Set the Port number to use
set the cache size, ttl etc
    set other BranchCache policy items

Currently this has to be done outside of SCCM - makes sense to bring it into the Admin Console as other aspects of BranchCache config are already in the UI (DP config, deployment etc)

  11. Validate Endpoint is online for Peer Cache

When using Peer Cache, if the Peer is no longer online or not available for connect there is a 7.5 min delay to fail to the next system. if the first connection was a validation of the systems online status ("Are you there") the need for this delay would not be needed. the requesting client could attempt to make connection (presumably when it's doing the resource checks for Battery, CPU load, Disk IO and available connections) and if the connection times out (very short reasonable time) it moves to the next peer on the list.

  12. Make Pull Distribution Point Transfers via BITS 'BranchCache Enabled' so content can be DeDuped on the wire

Currently the Pull DP uses BITS to get content from another DP, but BranchCache is disabled (PeerProtocolFlags=0 in event 60 in the BITS event log). Enabling BranchCache on these BITS jobs would mean that DeDuplication would be used if enabled on the source DP, and significant WAN/LAN bandwidth savings could be achieved.

  13. Cloud DP Option for Internet based Clients

At the Moment Internet Based Clients cannot use Cloud DPs as Content Location as documented here:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/plan-design/hierarchy/use-a-cloud-based-distribution-point
"Clients on the Internet that receive both an Internet-based distribution point and a cloud-based distribution point as content locations for a deployment, only attempt to retrieve content from the Internet-based distribution point. If the client on the Internet fails to retrieve content from the Internet-based distribution point, the client does not then attempt to access the cloud-based distribution point. "

It would be nice to have an Option that Internet Based Clients (configured in an IBCM or Cloud Proxy Service Scenario) can getā€¦

  14. Allow Boundary Group and Distribution Point Group Nesting

Allow boundary groups to contain other boundary groups (and distribution point groups to contain distribution point groups) so that a services hierarchy can be created and managed much more easily. As an example, below are a Boundary and DP hierarchy setup:
    Boundary hierarchy:
Site_Boundary_Group - Contains Primary Site Server as an available site system, so it is available to whole site
Regional_Boundary_Group_A - Contains an MP for the A region
Regional_Boundary_Group_B - Contains an MP for the B region
Local_Boundary_Group_1 - Contains a local DP for location 1, part of Region A
    Local_Boundary_Group_2 - Contains a local DP for locationā€¦
