  1. Allow maintenance window schedules to be applied to reboots

In scenarios where you do not want a workstation or server to be rebooted, any rogue or untrained admin with rights could deploy something to the device without suppressing reboots.

Would it be possible to allow Maintenance Windows to be applied for reboots? This would allow admins to create collections of machines that would only reboot during a set schedule and ensure that the settings cannot be overridden by a deployment.

I could also see this being done via Client Settings, but that would be 24/7 not restricted to a maintenance window.

  2. Create Collection based on Machine variables query

It would be nice to be able to create a collection based on non-encrypted machine variables. In my company we donā€™t have a good way to distinguish between customer service rep machines and back office people in the same office location without our CMDB data. Separating them in Active Directory OU structure is not the greatest idea. If we want to do something like this we have to use a script to create direct membership collections that contains thousands of machines.

Currently the only way to integrate 3rd party data would be a new HW scan of a client WMIā€¦

  3. The Wake on LAN Notification Channel should be available as a WoL option for deployments

The client notification WoL feature neatly avoids the MAC spoofing and broadcast limitations of the site-based WoL capabilities of ConfigMgr, but it is only available as a client action.

If we could schedule a deployment and have an option to initiate a client notification for WoL when the deployment time arrived, this would be a very elegant way to get WoL functionality in environments where the network team do not support any of the other approaches.

  4. Ability to inventory machines with multiple IPs

hardware inventory not able to collect the details for "Network_Data" from the clients when the machine has multiple IPs,

The IPAddress00 field is defined as varchar(255), the field length prevents us from collecting all the IP details when the combined length of IP addresses in that machine exceeds 255.

    thanks.

  5. Inventory and reporting on User Installed Software

There are many applications now that users can install without admin rights, including some from Microsoft (like TEAMs). They are installed in the User's profile on the machine, and there is no way for SCCM to inventory it. This is making it difficult for us to 1) identify certain applications we do NOT want on our systems, and 2) identify versions of these applications that may have problems or vulnerabilities we need to patch.

The issue is shown here in this blog:

  6. Increase performance of incremental collections so that the best practice limit of 200 can be increased

Incremental collections are an invaluable component of Configuration Manager 2012 that is unfortunately held back by the performance implications of having too many (based on the best practice limit of 200). While the -need- for frequent updating collections was reduced based on an applications conditions, there is still an industry preference to manage application availability using Active Directory groups. As a result, the number of collections potentially benefiting from incremental collection updates is high. I work around this by parsing collections that reference AD groups, checking if they've been updated recently and then requesting collections updates of relevant collections. Thisā€¦

  7. Auto-update collection when limiting collection is changed

When the limiting collection of a collection is changed the membership is not updated automatically to comply with the new limited collection. This should be changed, or there should be a notice of that when the limiting collection is changed. Thank you very much.

  8. Ability to utilise Azure Traffic Manager with Cloud Management Gateway & Cloud DPs

I've dabbled with the deployment of Cloud management gateways, and Cloud DP's and one thing that I observed is that when you create the CMG or CDP you are specifying a region to deploy where you want the resource to be located (east US, West Europe, etc)..
As someone who manages SCCM endpoints at a global level, trying to deploy resources to handle staff to operate across multiple geographic locations (US, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand) you can imagine that I need a lot of Cloud resources to keep traffic local to the endpoints.
It would be fantastic if thereā€¦

  9. Limit a Collection to Max Number of Machines for Licensing

It would be nice if you could create a feature for collections that could limit the number of machines that could appear in a certain collection. Say you have 5 licenses of a software, you wouldn't want 6 or more machines to appear in the collection as you don't have a license for the 6th machine. Just a thought.

  10. SCCM Collection Alert

Add a Collection Alert that allows you to generate an alert if Collection Membership falls below threshold (% or Count).

This will be useful, for example, if we have a pilot group collection that isn't dynamic and machines get removed because they were replaced and don't get put back in the collection. This way we know that more device resources need to be added to the collection.

  11. free disk space percent available in WQL

Please create a field and store the free disk as a percentage of the volume size that can be used as a collection query. This will be helpful when trying to find systems that are at risk. With so many types of computer and so many sizes of hard drives, a static amount of disk space available isn't always as telling as a percent can sometimes be.

The main reason for the ask is we're considering peer cache and want a way to "disable" peer cache if the percent of disk space falls below "x" percent and there doesn't seemā€¦

  12. SCCM collections management via Active Directory groups

Under our main domain (.com) are subdomains (de..com). Under those subdomains are created groups which consider local computer objects. These subdomain groups are members of group in our main domain.

We run SCCM query which detects computers objects in the main domain and fill those computers into specific SCCM collection.

Our issue is, that if we run a full "Active Directory Group Discovery" and Active Directory downtime, then computers are automaticaly removed from SCCM collection.

We want to prevent a full "Active Directory Group Discovery" removing computers object from SCCM collections if Active Directory subdomains services are unavailable.

  13. Change Wake-Up Proxy functionality

SCCM should change the Wake-Up proxy functionality so that it doesn't cause MAC flapping. IBM BigFix and IE are able to use WOL forwarders which are very reliable, and they don't cause issues on networks that use Port Security. The Wake-Up proxy idea is great, but in practice it falls short because many large networks just can't use it. It's incredibly important to have a reliable WOL tool, and Microsoft really needs to step their game up in this aspect.

  14. Create collection from report

It would be nice to be able to easily create a collection from the results of a report and even have it update dynamically. A report based collection could lead to more proactivity within SCCM.

  15. PrepDrv.inf Registration, potentially via ccmeval

In https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3213242/software-metering-agent-fails-with-software-metering-failed-to-start-p, MtrMgr.log may indicate that the prepdrv is no longer successfully registered. A potential fix could be adding a CCMEval task which would detect if Metering is enabled on the client, and if so, confirm that prepdrv is successfully registered (read mtrmtr.log, but there may be a better programmatic way to do so), and if not successfully registered, register it.

  18. Show different icon for user and device collections in Application Deployment tab

Show different icon for user and device collections in Application Deployment tab.
At this moment you see in the Application - tab Deployment the same icon for user and device collections. If that could be changed so that you see a collection-icon with a human head on top of it for a user collection and a collection-icon with an computer on top of it (see attachment). Then you can see what kind of collection the deployment is targetted, which helps for troubleshooting.

  20. Make configuration.mof changes and restores from backup more robust

Currently, changes to configuration.mof appear to be read in based on the timestamp of the file.

This means that if you restore configuration.mof from a backup, it will not be re-read into the database because the timestamp is older.

Recently I had to force a re-read of a backup of configuration.mof by making a trivial change to a comment in the file so that the timestamp was changed and thus hardware inventory would again run on my clients.

It would seem that perhaps a checksum of the file compared to a file that was read in previously would resolve thisā€¦
