  1. Source list URL path not relative to the MSI that was run

Currently if you run an MSI using a wrapper, and the MSI is located in a subfolder, the source list reg keys get set differently.

The path in HKEYCLASSESROOT\Installer\Products<product code>\SourceList\Net gets set to the relative path of the MSI at run time.

The path in HKEYCLASSESROOT\Installer\Products<product code>\SourceList\URL gets set to the root content URL on the DP.

This causes issues if the local cache has been removed or purged. The user can no longer perform a repair as the source path is invalid.

Normally I'd say just uninstall and reinstall, but in the case of some…

  2. Detection method scripts should run with -File

Currently, application detection method scripts are ran in such a way that it causes issues with certain levels of PowerShell Constrained Language Mode. An example of how scripts are run is below.

"C:\WINDOWS\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\PowerShell.exe" -NoLogo -Noninteractive -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass "& 'C:\WINDOWS\CCM\SystemTemp\11a53fac-8144-438e-aa01-6d2378be848b.ps1'"

To better allow detection method scripts to be ran under Constrained Language mode, the script should be ran with -File instead of with the call operator &.

With the current configuration it is not possible to use PowerShell based detection methods in some scenarios, reducing their usefulness.

  3. Application Group Reference

We need the ability to easily see which application is included in which application group.

This could be done similar to dependency references in the "References" tab of the application.

  4. Web Application - add icon from application catalog to icon on start menu

When you deploy a Web App, the link created on the start menu appears with the standard IE icon. Could the icon that is displayed with the Web app in the application also be applied to the shortcut on the start menu?

currently I have six webapps in my start menu all with the IE icon.

  5. Export and Import Global Conditions

Please allow us to export and import global conditions. The code exists somewhere since this can be done when exporting and importing applications. Bonus points for Powershell cmdlets.

  6. Add Column in Package\Program\Deployments Tab to show assigned date and time

Add Column in Package\Program\Deployments Tab to show assigned date and time, in order of time newest to latest if multiple schedules are shown.

  7. Prioritize application deployments

This an idea to add a functionality so we can set a priority from 1-10000 for multiple software deployments.

Currently if one of the packages require a reboot and they get installed ahead of the others that will hold up the deployments until the machine is rebooted.

  8. Enhance documentation & setting to control deployment available time randomization

We have discovered, that the available time of a application deployment is randomized per client (we have discovered a range of 0 - 120 minutes).

This behaviour is not documented and caused some headaches.
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/apps/deploy-use/deploy-applications

Additional to the documentation of this beviour (including the maximum randomization time) we would love to see a client setting to control this behaviour, similar to the "Disable deadline randomization" setting for the deployment deadline.

  9. Detection rule logic change in Application module

    Dear All,

we are using more than one detection rule for all our applications(script installer) that are created in our environment.

During installation, the detection rule (AND condition) works fine and we face no issues.

But there are cases when the uninstallation fails in the middle of the script, we get the message as REMOVAL FAILED in the software center, and out of 3 detection rule one or two get removed (partly uninstalled) , but not the whole application is uninstalled from the machine. And when we run the RETRY for removing the application, SCCM check for installation status based…

  10. High Risk Deployment Configuration for applications

It would great to see the feature where collections above a certain number of members are hidden made available to the application deployment wizard, rather than just task sequences.

While applixation deployment may not be as high a risk, I'm sure it would provide a lot more reassurance for users new to SCCM and the application deployment process.

  11. Application Lifecycle Management options in Console

One of the big struggles at many companies is not putting application IN SCCM, but having a proper process to retire old applications and do regular cleanup. So it would be good to have some options to automate the process when retiring applications.

    • having the content for retired applications automatically removed from all distribution points

    • having the files/folders removed from the content source location

    • having the retired applications deleted from SCCM after the cleanup completed.

I know there are some PowerShell scripts out there and console extensions but it would be nice to have this as a fully supported out…

  12. User Environment Management solution

In the Microsoft portfolio a complete User Environment Management (UEM) solution is missing. Yes, there is Group Policy + Preferences and User Environment Virtualization (UE-V), but a solution like RES One Workspace or AppSense is missing. Why's that? Lot's off customers like to have a Microsoft-only or Microsoft-unless policy, which can't be using Microsoft solutions alone.

Think about a solution which combining user settings like start menu, desktop, folder redirection, taskbar, application control, application security, license management, drive mappings and printer offering. Where delegating of control is possible. With integration in Configuration Manager, and what else you can think of.…

  13. Allow for more granular OS selection in Application Requirements

Right now there is no way to distinguish between flavors of Windows 10 when configuring OS-based Application requirements. Please split it up into different OS flavors such as 1507, 1511, 1607, 1703...etc.

  14. Unicorn emoji support in the console 🦄

I think it’s time we all agreed that there aren’t enough unicorns in the console. I’d like to see support for unicorn emojis when I’m clicking around. The good unicorns for when things are going well and the evil ones for when I messed up something and it’s bad.

  15. Increase Application Dependency Chain limit from 5-10

Currently the supported limit for dependent applications is five.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/apps/deploy-use/create-applications#bkmk_dt-depend

I would like to propose an increase of that limit from 5 to 10. Generally speaking a Task Sequence would be ok for handling large numbers of order specific applications, however there are limitations to using a TS for deployment in a large scale environment.
We often find that we are pushing close to the limit of 5 in applications that require things like ".net,odbc, VS debugging,C++ redist, MS DB engine" and so on. When multiple core techs are required at a specific version having a limit of 5 makes…

  16. Allow setting of default icons in software center

Split this item from a bigger umbrella item.
This is to allow the changing of the default icons for all task sequences, or all package / programs in software center.

  17. Have deployment types linked to deployments

I would like to see the ability to easily link a deployment type to a deployment. here is why with the deployments you can point them to a collection. it would be nice to be able to say, "hey i want this deployment type to go to this production collection. However, i want to test this update for this application and have the target collection be the pilot group." i know there are probably global conditions you can make to query collection membership but it seems like it would be a small task to have that simple feature to have…

  18. Remove New Software is available prompt for Packages deployed as Available

It would be great if Packages deployed as Available would not prompt the user with 'New software is available' in the system tray upon login and persist until the user installs the package. We want to utilize the 'Show notifications for new deployments' setting for Windows OS/Microsoft Office updates to give the users more control of installation options, but we cannot since we have Packages available to all users for various fixes which makes this tray icon is persistent and an reported as an annoyance.

  19. Enable ‘Copy the content in this package to a package share on distribution points’ for the Application model

Using HTTP sources is currently broken for Windows (See MS case REG:117102316533973 - When an application requires a feature/needs to self heal Windows installer brings up the
Error 123. The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.) and a work around would be to use package shares however the application model does not have this.

The best solution would be a new distribution point feature that makes virtual package shares for each application not requiring extra space on the server. Otherwise enabling the same tickbox that is used for packages could be a quick win.

    Reasoning:
    HTTPS MSI…

  20. Office Click-to-run should be able to stream installation from Distribution Point

When deploying Office 365 via SCCM, the client downloads the entire package to its local drive, then streams the installation from the downloaded source. In our organisation we have one master source including all languages (~8GB) and the client streams only the languages it requires (as specified in the configuration.xml), SCCM should allow the clients to stream the installation directly from the Distribution Points and therefore only download the languages they need, not the entire 8GB source.
