  1. Add "Run As" to Applications

Similar to the Task Sequence "Run this step as the following account". Please add this to application installations as well. We have some "difficult to package" applications that require a user profile in order to install successfully. These applications fail to install as an application because when running as the system there is no user profile path. As a result, we have to resort to task sequences to install these which results in a worse end user experience.

  2. Application deployment is available/required depending if a user is logged on or not

I'd like to create an application deployment that is available when a user is logged on and it would be automatically required if a user is not logged on.

This is needed when application deployment can happen only if some process is not running. In 1702 you can close some running process, which helps the problem. However, there are situations when you cannot close the conflicting processes, because the user might lose some data. In these scenarios, you need a way to initiate the deployment immediately, when the user logs off or if there are no user logged on.

  3. Include ability to turn off Application Revisions

Not everyone has a use case for Application revisions. For those not needing it, application revisions just add complexity and unnecessary additional operational processes and workload.

It would be nice if this could be enabled / disabled either in general via a setting in the product; or on a per application basis.

  4. Available of software download to users of Workgroup computers with Application Catalog sign-in

Currently, workgroup client cannot download software if the application is deployed to user collection. Hope the subsequent release support workgroup client to download/install software based on user collection membership through Application Catalog sign-in or Software Center.

  5. Include friendly names for content IDs, Application IDs, etc. in log files

Having only the internal IDs of objects in the logs causes a lot of extra work when tracing through a log file going back and forth to find out what an Id is in "human terms".

It would be great if there was a friendly description included alongside the Id e.g. "Application not discovered. [AppDT Id: ScopeId_A0857DD4-CD56-4262-B209-7DC212F0E26B/DeploymentType_1e8b52ad-60df-49f7-8d33-e18cefa2134d, (My Friendly App Name/My Friendly Deployment Name), Revision: 2]

While I realize that the names are really metadata and subject to change, having them in the logs would greatly speed up troubleshooting at times.

  6. Restart Option during the deployment

Restarting the PC during the deployment only prompt with Count down we would ideally need a prompt similar to WSUS Updates installation so that user has the option to post pone the restart or restart the PC immediately

  7. Allow API integration for application approval requests

We would like to see a feature whereby the approvals workflow for applications can be handed off to an external system. For applications which require an approval or license acquisition workflow, capture the userID of the requestor and allow for some user-defined form fields to be shown to the end user.

For example, let's say my end users wants Visio but this requires a puchase of an individual license before they can install it. The app portal should allow capture of some user-defined fields (office location, fiscal approver, etc.) and we should be able to pass this to an external…

  8. Remember list of Application Catalog installed apps

Add a new view to Application Catalog that would display the list of applications that the user has previously installed from the Application Catalog regardless of what machine that application has been installed to.

Scenario here is that the user has been using her workstation for 3 years and during that time she installed 6 different applications from the Application Catalog. Then the user gets a new workstation with the default set of application. She could go to the Application Catalog and see all Apps that She has installed previously on his/her old workstation and install the same ones to…

  9. Allow changing an application's scheduled time and available or required

With the application model we are no longer able to change the availability schedule or deadline after the application is created - or even expire it. The only way to stop a required application is to delete it, which purges the reporting data. We would like to see this changed so you are able change the deadline/avail time/or if the deployment is required or available.

  10. Export/Archive Apps with all Informations on Filesystem

An option to Export Apps/Packages to Filesystem would be perfect. If i remove an SCCM App i can copy the Sources to my Archive on the Filesystem, but I loose the Information like Deployment Types, Description, Detection methods ans more.

We have hundreds of Apps which need to be Archived manually.

  11. Integrate Application Catalog Management Into Web Interface (Including approval automation options)

Yes we do this today with SCOrch and other tools, however, the self service aspect of the catalog has so much untapped potential in the product. Putting the management and automation into the web interface for administrators would make this so much easier/beneficial for the masses.

  12. SCCM Company Portal App: Correct installation status for applications requiring approval

When an application is requested for approval and then installed using the SCCM Comopany Portal App, the status stays on "Install" but it would be nice if it changed to "Installing" and then "Installed" accordingly.

    More Details:

    1. An application is deployed to users as «Install / Available» with the flag «Require administrator approval if users request this application»

    2. The SCCM Company Portal App can be successfully used to request approval for the application from the client.

    3. The approval request appears in SCCM and is approved from the SCCM console.

    4. After approving the request in SCCM, the…

  13. Introduce a new checkbox under package properties: "Don't store this package in content library if content is copied to package share".

Introduce a new checkbox under package properties: "Don't store this package in content library if content is copied to package share".

That is to avoid using twice the package size in Distribution Points for the environments where content availability in package shares is crucial.

  14. Install limits for applications deployed to Users

Software licensing for certain programs prevents us from deploying these programs to Users since SCCM cannot control how many times a user may actually install an application on other computers or devices. It would be nice to set an install limit for applications deployed to Users if needed.

  15. Grant end user more flexibility to manage execution of required deployments (“postpone required deployments”)

It would be great to be able to allow user to manage even deployments where software (applications, software updates …) has to be installed as “required” (mandatory) in a more flexible way.
In many cases software should be installed as soon as possible, but needn’t be installed necessarily till a specific date. Therefore, it would be great to give the user limited control when to install the software allowing him to choose a time which is most appropriate for him.
E.g. instead of forcing a user who was on vacation for two weeks to install the software when he logs…

  16. Independend deployment type

Currently, when creating Application and Application´s deployment types, they are mandatory linked to each other.

In production, we need 2 different deployment types. 1st deployment type would be used on-field computers which require complex uninstall script and 2nd would be independend native setup.exe /silent

Currently, the issue is, that we cannot use independend deployment types in Application model.

  17. Application Catalog - Self Service Windows 10 Upgrade via Application Catalog.

We are testing the ability to add a Win 10 upgrade to the Application Catalog with success.

We are able to successfully publish the Win 10 upgrade as a standard Package and simply run Setup.Exe. This has worked and we have successfully updated systems in our Lab from Win 7 to Win 10 with this method. The user clicks "Install" from the App Cat and they are presented with the standard Win 10 setup screens.

We want to offer this as an option to our Engineers and Application developers that want to jump on to Win 10 for testing on…

  18. Right click a package and goto the deployment report.

It would be great if we could right click a deployment in a package and it could take us to the monitoring > deployments report, instead of having to manually navigate to it by going to Monitoring > Deployments.

  20. Allow Application Detection to use SHA-1 HASH of a file.

Allow Application Detection to use SHA-1 HASH of a file to determine if its installed.

Baseline Configs can test if a file has a particular HASH, but won't let you remediate it (That would be the IDEAL scenario)

So, we deploy an app that puts the CORRECT file into the location. Using Application Detection, there is no way (other than a VBSCRIPT) to detect if the CORRECT file was moved into place so that the deployment doesn't occur over and over.

We can natively get the SHA-1 HASH (see baselines) so it shouldn't be THAT hard to integrate into application…
