  1. Package ID in Application list

Everytime I have an error in the "Distribution Point Configuration Status" I have to search for the "failed" application with the Package ID in the "Content Status". This works very slow! Please show the "Package ID" in the Appliaction List of the Console.

  2. BITS Priorities for User Initiated Deployments

Test in 1606: For User launched Application deployments (i.e Software Center) , the BITS job is created as FOREGROUND priority which can hog all of the available bandwidth on the machine.

Package/Programs downloads are launched with a BITS priority of LOW – please can we standardize on this for all user initiated content downloads.

  3. Add support for Status MIF reporting with Application Model

Packages/Programs in ConfigMgr support use of Status MIF reporting while the Application Model does not. Status MIFs can provide for more accurate and detailed status reporting, particularly for deployment execution failures. For this reason, some customers have been reluctant to transition to the Application Model.

The Application Model relies on exit codes for determine success/failure of deployments.
Disadvantages of depending on exit codes:

Success exit codes (0, 3010, etc.) do not always indicate successful installation; failure exit codes do not always indicate failure

Exit code 0 does not always indicate that the installation succeeded, but rather only that the installer…

  4. User Device Affinity - Restrict One machine per User

    Hi,

I am using Application catalog for making the applications available for the users to install as and when they are in need of. By default, user can set more than one device as his primary device and any approved application can be installed on any/all of those machines.

While checking the available option to automatically install an app to users primary device (In case of OS reinstallation or Hardware refresh) using appcatalog, it gets installed on all primary devices.

It becomes difficult to manage this scenario since there are many licensed applications which will get installed on multiple machines.

  5. Enable/Disable Feature for Application Deployments

    Enable/Disable Feature for Application Deployments
When a Deployment is created, it is Enabled by default and there is no way to Disable it. In the current state, a Deployment could get created incorrectly, resulting in a large number of computers in the company getting rebooted, unwanted software or blue screens (if its something incompatible for that platform). In SCCM 2007 we got around this by creating a "Disabled" program for each Package, then after an Advertisement was QA'd, we would associate the "Enable" Program with the Advertisement. This option is not available in 2012. Seems like a pretty simple feature…

  6. Application Catalog Requirements

It would be extremely useful for the application catalog to display the reason why the application cannot be installed in terms of requirements. The generic requirement failure message is confusing to users and overall is not meaningful. If the hard drive doesn't have enough space it should say there is not enough space. Not having a meaningful failure message generates extra help-desk tickets.

  7. Allow priority ( order) between applications without dependancies

For example, application with priority 100 will be install before application with priority 500.
There is some case were dependencie is not sufficient / too strict.

  8. Allow obscuring of all or portions of the SCCM installation command-line

I would like to see an option added to SCCM to allow obscuring portions of the installation command-line. This functionality would be particular useful for application installations like Microsoft SQL Server Express which accept an argument to the setup.exe specifying a clear text password.

The benefit of obscuring the password would be that the SCCM logs (i.e. appenforce.log) would not have a clear text version of the password which could be opened and read by any user having access to the c:\windows\ccm\logs folder.

  9. Countdown timer before closing executable

For the new feature in 1702 ("Check for running executable files before installing an application"), add a countdown timer pop-up above the system tray, like the countdown for restart, but in this case to allow the user to save any unsaved work before the specified executables get automatically closed.

  10. Add support for MSU files in Application Catalog

From time to time msu quick engineering hotfixes need to be deployed to machines. It would be helpful if you could import the msu files just like an MSI then deploy using the application catalog. Another option would be to add support to software upgrades.

  11. We need an Event based deployment versus Time based deployment

Please put in Event based deployment versus Time based deployment based on file/registry/Event log change. The deployment date should be used as the absolute earliest the event could take place. The expiration date should still hold true.

The action could possibly happen on a single device, but need to occur to devices within a boundary/collection.

The usage scenario is when a computer device is being used in a 24 hour retail setting, and the maintenance window is dependent on when the retail location determines a time in which it can take such action. The retail store may only have a…

  12. Detection rule logic change in Application module

    Dear All,

we are using more than one detection rule for all our applications(script installer) that are created in our environment.

During installation, the detection rule (AND condition) works fine and we face no issues.

But there are cases when the uninstallation fails in the middle of the script, we get the message as REMOVAL FAILED in the software center, and out of 3 detection rule one or two get removed (partly uninstalled) , but not the whole application is uninstalled from the machine. And when we run the RETRY for removing the application, SCCM check for installation status based…

  13. Application Lifecycle Management options in Console

One of the big struggles at many companies is not putting application IN SCCM, but having a proper process to retire old applications and do regular cleanup. So it would be good to have some options to automate the process when retiring applications.

    • having the content for retired applications automatically removed from all distribution points

    • having the files/folders removed from the content source location

    • having the retired applications deleted from SCCM after the cleanup completed.

I know there are some PowerShell scripts out there and console extensions but it would be nice to have this as a fully supported out…

  14. Have deployment types linked to deployments

I would like to see the ability to easily link a deployment type to a deployment. here is why with the deployments you can point them to a collection. it would be nice to be able to say, "hey i want this deployment type to go to this production collection. However, i want to test this update for this application and have the target collection be the pilot group." i know there are probably global conditions you can make to query collection membership but it seems like it would be a small task to have that simple feature to have…

  15. Remove New Software is available prompt for Packages deployed as Available

It would be great if Packages deployed as Available would not prompt the user with 'New software is available' in the system tray upon login and persist until the user installs the package. We want to utilize the 'Show notifications for new deployments' setting for Windows OS/Microsoft Office updates to give the users more control of installation options, but we cannot since we have Packages available to all users for various fixes which makes this tray icon is persistent and an reported as an annoyance.

  16. Web Application - add icon from application catalog to icon on start menu

When you deploy a Web App, the link created on the start menu appears with the standard IE icon. Could the icon that is displayed with the Web app in the application also be applied to the shortcut on the start menu?

currently I have six webapps in my start menu all with the IE icon.

as per the end of this post - http://wmug.co.uk/wmug/b/r0b/archive/2013/10/21/system-center-2012-configuration-manager-r2-web-applications

  17. Further Customize Web Application Deployment Types

Web Application deployment types in their current incarnation are not very usable. The main issues with using them are that:

    1. There is no control over where the shortcut to the Web App gets placed; they always go to the start menu. We would like the option to put the shortcut on the desktop or in the user's favorites menu. To do this currently we have to write a script and cannot use this deployment type.

    2. The icon for the Web Application should use the icon imported into the software center. Nondescript icons make finding the application you want to launch…

  18. Role Based Control : Enhance the Ability to Add SuperSedence using RBA

Currently under the Role Base Access, if you have full control to an application, and wish to add SuperSedence to an application the User only has read access to, you are unable to do that. The ability to do this is currently available when adding a dependency on an existing app the user only has read rights to.

  19. Allow Superseding / Upgrade of app or program not installed via SCCM

It would be great if an supersedence could be created for programs not deployed via SCCM (or previously deployed via packages). I find myself creating "dummy" applications just for a detection, so that we can automatically upgrade applications that are "Available". In other words, often times we don't care that you installed a specific program, but we do care that if it is installed it's up to date. Maybe when selecting the Application and Deployment type to supersede an additional option to supersede base on a detection rule set could be added?

  20. Mac Script Installer deployment type

Today the only deployment type for Mac is to use the ".cmmac" packages.
These packages are far from on par with what is available for Windows.
The most basic option to uninstall the app is not present.

It would be very usfull to have the "Mac Script Installer" deployment type where we can simply add a .pkg file or bash script with media and execute install and uninstall with custom commands. Some of the packages require more then just the .pkg file and will therefor be incomplete.
Having a uninstall command will also allow for propper supersedence where now application…
