  1. Integrate MDT by default

Instead of having us integrate MDT, why not just include the scripts in a new SCCM install by default?

Declining because we have already added a number of native steps to mirror commonly used steps from MDT in SCCM Task Sequences and we have an overall work item for completing integration of more all our feedback is captured for this work too so comments below are appreciated and not lost. We’d rather return your votes and let you know we have this as an open item.

If there are specific features of MDT you would like to see natively in SCCM then please re-purpose your now returned votes to make specific suggestionsā€

  3. Support to image mounted vhd drives

With this ability you can expand the capabilities of your task sequence in so many ways, ie using VHD's to create a Kiosk/steady state solution.

Please add support to be able to apply operating system images to mounted VHD drives.

Currently a permission issue prevents this.

  4. Allow MDT Task Sequence Editor to be resized

With OSD, you can do this, but with standalone MDT, you cannot resize the window when editing the Task Sequences. This make for a lot of scrolling, even though you can collapse the groups.

  5. Ability to skip Press Enter for UEFI WDS PXE deployments

Currently when using UEFI and PXE, a WDS prompt comes up, an example screenshot is attached, asking to Press Enter. This requires the technician to press Enter within a handful of seconds, or the loading of the boot WIM fails. Currently, there appears to be no way to skip this portion and proceed directly with downloading the boot WIM, similar to how you can skip F12 when using legacy BIOS mode.

  6. Possibility to deploy a .vhdx instead of just a .vhd into the VMM library.

Possibility to deploy a .vhdx instead of just a .vhd into the VMM library.
Also the following features should be optional when the vhd/vhdx is created and is being copied into the library:

    1) Insert an auto-updated incrementing version number (x.x.x.x).
    2) Add a disk tag.
    3) Add family name

  7. WPF Support in WinPE

A lot of folks are building WPF apps and frontends that are used at the start of OSD. The most recent PE has stopped supporting this all together. I'm not sure if this is the correct user voice, but the ability to whip up an app to run in PE makes OSD a lot more flexible. It'd be excellent to have it back and to have it be a bit more robust.

  8. Implement the ability to disable the writing of the PXE-Flag

If the local hard disk is the first in the client boot order, there is no need to write the PXEFlag. In fact it is a problem: If the boot image download fails because of a TFTP error, the client can not boot from network again. An administrator must be called to "Clear the required PXE flag".
Just implement a switch to allow or disallow the writing of the PXE-Flag to the database.

  9. Support for VHDX virtual hard disk format for export to System Center VMM

We want to take advantage of ConfigMgr's ability to produce virtual hard disks for VMM templates. The concern we have is that our standard is VHDX format. However, ConfigMgr only seems to support VHD's according to the documentation.

This should have been updated with the other VHD items in 1806 timeframe

Updating status of this item to Declined.

Support for VHD was deprecated, this was announced in January 2017 ā€“ see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/plan-design/changes/deprecated/removed-and-deprecated-cmfeatures

In 1802 we have removed the VHD node. Actions on existing VHDs e.g. Removal can still be completed using our PowerShell CmdLets as we havenā€™t removed the SDK

  10. Importing OSD INF drivers directly to console subfolders

Integrating a new operating system in Configuration Manager OSD could require to import hundreds of INF drivers for larger companies if you use dedicated driver packages for each type of supported computer.
This could be really annoying as you are forced to first import every driver to the "Drivers" top level folder and then have to move them to their corresponding subfolders.
With Configuration Manager 2007 it was possible to import the drivers directly into the subfolder structure.
Please bring back that valuable functionality!

Thanks for the feedback, updating to declined and returning votes.

Import to sub-folders is not supported for Drivers unfortunately, due to architectural changes between the 2007 releases and 2012. We have all the feedback noted. For management using Driver Categories can help with driver management within console.

We do have other items for improving driver management for OSD and the feedback for importing re: speed, managing with folders et al. is noted.

  11. Add "AD Powershell Module" as Optional Component for boot images

It would be very handy to have the AD powershell module that's included in Windows Server and RSAT as an optional component for boot images. I've been including this manually in my boot image as per this article [https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/24413.add-powershell-active-directory-module-in-windows-pe.aspx], but of course with SCCM now being updated so frequently, I have to constantly re-embed this powershell module in the boot WIM. Querying AD during OSD seems like a fairly common requirement, so this ought be quite an easy feature to justify, and relatively trivial to implement.

  12. Create VHD/VHDX Windows PE boot media

This user voice is being opened on behalf of a large (>450,000 seats) customer. This customers leverages does imaging in their virtual environments heavily both for server and workstation OSes. I've had three requests from this customer for a way to create a VHD/VHDX disk containing bootable Windows PE so that they don't need to worry about using ISO's. Using the approach below we have been able to accomplish this but having something native in the product to produce a VHD/VHDX in the requested format would be very helpful.

  13. Support using OSDDownloadContent.exe outside of Download Package Content TS step

A number of organizations are using OSDDownloadContent.exe outside of Download Package Content TS Step to download dynamic driver content (made popular by http://www.scconfigmgr.com/modern-driver-management/). In this scenario, driver package version information is missing in the TS environment during TS runtime (i.e. SMSTSSourceVersion%PackageID% TS variables are not set). When an Alternate Content Provider is called using SMSTSDownloadProgram to download content, the ACP is unable to determine which version of the package needs to be downloaded and can result in download failure or downloading the incorrect version of a driver.

Ideally, OSDDownloadContent.exe would be able to retrieve the current version and updateā€¦

  14. SCCM Capture - Reboot problem with Windows 10 1703 just before WinPE step

I just started creating a new set of Windows 10 1703 images and while the build operation went just fine, the capture part seems to be experiencing a bit of trouble just before entering the WinPE step. As it turns out the "reboot" before WinPE just doesn't take place although it's clearly visible during the TS progress window that that's the intention. The target system remains in a state where most drivers are cleaned up as part of the sysprep step.

The temporary remediation is to manually reboot the system. Afterwards it continues straight to WinPE and captures the systemā€¦

  17. Replace .wim download via tftp with wimboot via http with ipxe

The idea of wim download via tftp is so 20 century. Takes 59 sec to download wim in my environment during TS PXE boot (then the actual boot process)
Same .wim bootted with ipxe/wimboot via http takes 15 seconds all in! (that is less then a 1/4)

  18. Allow this application to be installed from TS

To use an app via task sequence, you need to check the "Allow this app to be installed from TS" on the app properties. it would be easy if this setting was automatically set if the app is added to a TS.

  19. BIOS to UEFI - Problem Rebooting back into WinPE during task sequence

  20. Need true imaging solution

Deploying operating systems from a WIM file and then adding applications via packages, leaves a lot to be desired from a speed standpoint. It typically takes at least an hour to fully deploy via OSD to a target machine.

My suggestion would be to acquire a true imaging or cloning solution (Ghost, Altiris) and incorporate that functionality into SCCM vNext. I haven't used one of these other solutions in some time, but it seems that they at least used to perform a sector for sector copy and pull down an image in a matter of 2-3 minutes.

Thanks for the feedback. While Sector based imaging does offer some speed benefits there’s many benefits to using WIM format

WIM can be serviced, patched offline. Any of the DISM actions for customization
WIM can be split – this is useful for spanning media when the image is large
WIM can contain multiple indices, these can be separate data or another OS
    there’s many more..

You mention ‘… then adding applications via packages’ – with sector based the applications are typically baked in meaning that image is useful for one group only. With OSD/task sequence the same image can be used with App deployment customizable

We won’t be moving from WIM so I have to mark this Declined.
