How can we improve Configuration Manager?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Add processor architecture (x64/x86) to Check Readiness step

Some task sequences can run only on the correct processor architecture e.g. cannot upgrade Win7 x86 to Win10 x64 or cannot install x64 OS to 32 bit device.

Add processor architecture (x64/x86) to Check Readiness step. Thus, the incorrect task sequence is immediately canceled if you try to install wrong architecture TS.

    • DCR: OSD Task Sequence - Create Baseline of existing TS and allow Remediation

From my field experience I have seen many times OS Deployments which did not really succeed, because of Continue on error conditions. In most cases the reason was to not end up with systems staying in Provisioning Mode. I know some guys just "re-deploy" the TS with checks if everything was done properly. This brought up the idea - why not using Compliance Settings for this purpose? At least to check if the system meets the Desired Baseline. Everything needed should be stored in the Task Sequence anyway and it would allow a "Report" summary client side after Deployment.

      • Re-think task sequence policy download in OS

Currently deployed task sequences create a lot of policy download and slow down the initialisation of a workstation. If they worked like in bootable media, or another way - I don't know if say downloading the TS policies as a zip would help?

        • Add subfolder search to Task Sequence Install Package

When you use the action "Install Package" you can search for the package but it only searches the selected folder and not the structure. Could a switch be added to search subfolders?

          • Make Progress Status messages descriptive

The Create Task Sequence Media Wizard reports very basic information during the creation, eg. Processsing 0% or 14 % etc but what is it progressing? As you cannot see this information and the processing status resets to 0% multiple times.

Would be helpful to know what it is doing!
