  1. Allow Task Sequence Editor to retain the window size from the previous session.

The default window is too small to see the window pane contents properly. It always needs to be enlarged. Either make it larger as a default or allow the user to set the size and retain it across sessions.

    • Extra Information about members of collection about required deployments(especially in task sequence)

When a tasksequence is deployed as required, especially for operating system deployment, the summary screen shows the collection name and the members count.
This step is very error prone and dangerous in case wrong collection is selected.
There should be an extra screen before required os depyment task sequence, which shows the collection name and all the members of the collection. Thus, the user will be aware about the error if it makes before.
an extra security step will be very useful.

PS: many companies lived this scenario with formatted computers mistakenly :(

        • Change State migration point to user based

You could automate the computer change, if State Migration Point would be user based, not computer based (and existing linking created). When user get's new laptop from pre-installation, she will open it from package and connect cables. After that she logs on and runs State Migration Recovery that loads everything back to the new operating system.

If using user based model, you don't have to manage MAC-addresses (that aren't in fact known beforehand). Easy to use for end-user:

1 - Click one - Start scanning [---100%---] OK, shut down the old machine and log on to new one
          2 -…

          • Allow for an advanced filter under 'Run only on..' in task sequence

Allow for a WMI filter or alternative in the advanced tab of a task sequence so we can run only on that hardware type. For example I have an OSD task sequence that I need to advertise to unknown however I actually only want to run on Model XYZ. This should be evaluated at the WinPE stage and then drop out of the TS if no match is found. This could equally be used similar to the existing format with a TS advertised in the software center.

Thanks for the feedback. We’re looking at moving the functionality of the Check Readiness step to the task sequence properties and this is one of the additions were considering. Please note this is not scheduled work yet.

            • Switch to let SCCM install applications in OSD via admin account instead of trusted user

SCCM is great for deploying OS's, and MDT is great for customizing those images. I'm asking for a switch that allows SCCM to act like MDT when it comes to installing and customizing a reference image.

                  • Download summary for multiple packages in software center

We leverage task sequences heavily for complex software deployments (non-OSD). This includes downloading and installing multiple software. We leverage "Download all content locally before starting task sequence" to minimize user impact so the content downloads in advance as much as possible.

Often users will run this on their own, and the "Download" status goes from 0%-->100% each time it downloads a package. It would be a much better experience if for a task sequence you could provide a status like.

"Download 1 of 10 (15%)" and provide an OVERALL status for all TS reference packages.

Thanks for the feedback. Updating status to noted.

The download behavior is from Software Center and would hold true for any deployment using Download and Execute so changing for Task Sequences may have knock on effect for SWD etc.

One thing you may want to look at it our Task Sequence Pre-Cache available in 1611 Tech Preview https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/get-started/capabilities-in-technical-preview-1611#pre-cache-content-for-available-deployments-and-task-sequences – that allow you to pre-cache all statically referenced content ahead of availability time so no download is seen and all content is local. You can also conditionally download OS Upgrade Packages

                    • Maximize import driver window when selecting drivers

When importing drivers to catalog, I get a window to select/tick drivers which the CM has read from inf files and import them. That window has very poor capability to scroll and view full paths and other info of drivers. It would be better, if I can set/fix/maximize the size of that window and drag columns how ever I like to. Now selectind and seeking between x86 and x64 folders, or OS folders is pain.

                          Thanks for the feedback

What’s happening here is the policies are not visible across different sites. So, if a client is already assigned to site A, the Management Point/Distribution Point on site B won’t be able to access those policies and boot the client.

The guidance is to delete the record – same as what you’ve been using

We filed a documentation update to add the same information to https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt627940.aspx

                        • Reporting

instead of SCO require Feature in SCCM once image complete/fails should get report on email with list of apps,System,Name,Ipaddress,OU etc.

                          • Handling of signed powershell scripts in OSD via Group Policy

Applications that utilize powershell as a detection method require that script to be signed with a code signing certificate. Code signing certificates are often managed through Active Directory Group Policy.

See: Appendix 3 in the Code-Signing Best Practices guide
                            https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn653556%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

The challenge is how to you implement a system during OSD where certificates are managed through GPO.

One could create a package that has certmgr and import the certificates; however, if there are any changes in the certs (revoked, expired, etc.) then there are multiple places to make that change.

In some environments the application developement group has no control…

                            • Add 2 new options for MDT, define and use Deployment toolkit

                              Add
MDT Define Microsoft Deployment Toolkit Package
                              Use Defined Microsoft Deployment Toolkit

So you can define then just use the defined MDT Toolkit. This would make it easier when you have multiple Use Microsoft Deployment Toolkit Package, in the TS. This way they wouldn't all have to be edited. So after you make a change/update your UDI for whatever reason usually applications upgrades.

This would same a major amount of time also ensure you don't miss one, and less time editing and testing.

Hi. This reads like something that would be addressed with the ‘Daisy chain task sequences’ https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/8339997-daisy-chain-task-sequences-osd-and-non-osd

With that you can updating a single referenced/child task sequence containing the MDT Package and any ‘parent’ task sequence will get that update too.

Let me know if that matches your ask and I’ll merge your votes with that item.

                              • Upgrade Operating System Built-in Step: Add Option to Keep Files Only

Customer does not have the store installed and using the built-in TS step keeps files and apps. I know that the "OSDSetupAdditionalUpgradeOptions" variable can be used, but it would be nice to have the option on the built-in TS step.

                                  Thanks for responding.

We cannot provide a different migration options for the reasons I outlined below. Anything other than ‘Applications, Data and Settings’ will leave the machine unmanaged – while we developed the new upgrade step we tested them all.

I’ll see if I can source steps for reinstalling the Store without having to complete a restore.

                                    Updating status to Noted

Hi. Support for Windows 10 was added in our 1511 release back when Windows 10 was released. As well as the same Build, Capture, Deploy we’ve had for all previous Windows versions we added a new In-place Upgrade task sequence template and step

                                    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/osd/deploy-use/scenarios-to-deploy-enterprise-operating-systems

Is there a gap in the functionality you’re seeing or something else – let us know, we’d like to address your ask and help you with deploying Windows 10.

                                  • Greetings - I'd like to see some of util to help read log files. It could show the list of logs and what each one is for and click to view

Thanks for the feedback. We include CMTrace.exe in the boot images so logs can be read in WinPE, that tool is part of the SCCM Toolkit and can also be found on the site server under \OSD\Bin\\CMTrace.exe

For OS Deployment logs there’s a section here which helps – https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh427342.aspx – the main OS Deployment log is SMSTS.log

We have an open item for improving logging, copy logs etc – I’ll add your feedback to that item.

                                    • Expose some policy data through the SMS Provider

It would be great if there was a WMI class that we could query, or a method we could call, to verify if policy is targeted to a specific client. In complex OSD scenarios, there is no way to verify whether TS policy has been targeted to a device after modifying collection membership without accessing SQL directly. For example, a method that could be called with just the client GUID or resource ID and a specific Task Sequence policy GUID, simply returning True or False, would rock. This could be called every 30 or 60 seconds and the process could…

                                      • Support MUI for the "Restart Computer" TaskSequence action description visible to the user

Especially in MUI environments explaining why a reboot is required can lead to confusion on the users side. Supplying a short description is nice already, but it would be even cooler if it was configurable based on the users display language.

                                        • Adjust ZTIApplication to return error codes during installation

Currently, if an application fails to install due to a typo or error during install, the task sequence just continues on. It would be preferable to at least have an option for the task sequence to fail if an application did not get installed.
