  1. Windows 10 Rollback via SCCM

The 30 Day Rollback option is available for all windows 10 users, but currently can not be automated using SCCM.

This should change, as this feature closely integrates with Microsofts testing strategy of using different branches which grow bigger in size as the rollout of a new build progresses.

When planing to integrate a similar scenario, in our case, we anticipate errors which have not been cought in testing of the previous branch and need to be able to quickly restore operations.

I am well aware that if all our applications were packaged this would not pose much of aā€¦

Thanks for all your suggestions and feedback, updating status to completed. The DISM commands listed in the previous admin response address this ask and I’ve verified all via task sequence with no issues.

  2. Task Sequences should be supported outside of operating system deployment scenarios

Task sequences are only officially supported in operating system deployment scenarios. Task sequences are incredibly useful with their explicit logic and tight control. There's many cases where it can be useful to deploy task sequences outside of operating system deployment scenarios for complex software deployment scenarios.

Task sequences should be made a first class citizen outside of operating system deployment scenarios.

  4. SMSTSLastActionName

In our OSD image we utilize the _SMSTSLastActionRetCode for error capturing. This helps us identify in the log where the image is specifically failing, but it doesn't provide very much value to the technician performing the image.

It would be nice if there was an additional variable of _SMSTSLastActionName, which passes the task sequence steps name instead of the return code. This would allow us to display a prompt with the action that failed in addition to the failure code.

  5. Keyboard support for Edit Task Sequence Variables

Keyboard support to select task sequence variables in the Task Sequence Wizard to edit them. Instead of having to use the mouse to click them and change values. This is helpful when imaging a large batch of computers and using a KVM.

Our 1906 release is now available which contains changes to make editing the variables easier when thereā€™s no mouse.

  6. Ability to specify the keyboard layout in the Boot Images properties

I know we can use the DISM command to set the input locale but from my point of view it should exist a field in the Boot Image properties where you could specify the layout you want.

  7. Option to not reboot on OSD TS Failure

Often times OSD TS fails while in WinPE (and obviously outside of WinPE) but unless the tech or user is sitting at the machine to press f8 (to bring up command prompt) the TS gives a timed windows until a reboot occurs. If my techs are not at their desk or if the imaging depots image things over night they are not there to see what failed or grab logs from PE and often times since it just reboots into windows they don't even realized the TS didn't finish. 8. OSD - Have different command-line options in the "Upgrade Operating System Task Sequence" to upgrade Windows 10

Several command-line options are available to upgrade Windows 10 (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/commercialize/manufacture/desktop/windows-setup-command-line-options).

By default, the "Upgrade operating system" task use the following command "Setup.exe /auto Upgrade /NoReboot /Quiet /DynamicUpdate Disable /ImageIndex 1 /PostOOBE <location> /PostRollback <location>" and if you want to use other switches, you must delete the default 'Upgrade operating system" task and use a "Run command line" task.

    Could you provide a system to dynamically change command-line options (eg switches [/ Auto {Clean | DataOnly | Upgrade}], [/ InstallLangPacks <location>], ...).

  9. Disk number variable for Format and Partition Disk step

Sometimes OSD does not put Windows on the drive that we want in systems with multiple drives because of things like raid/SAS controllers or nVME. If you allow a variable to be used for the "disk number" in the format and partition step, a custom UI could be used to select the correct disk number from WMI and send that variable (which is just a number) to the format and partition step.

  10. Support PXE responder to run on same server as DHCP

Currently it is not supported to use the built in PXE responder on the same server that is running DHCP. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have their own servers for SCCM DPs.

  11. Integrate git into the Task Sequence for script execution

Can we please have native git integration in an OSD task sequence for script execution? This would provide version and branch control when running scripts during an OSD task sequence

    e.g.

    1. Connect to a repo in GitHub
    2. Download scripts as a zip file
    3. Extract scripts and then execute

It would be good to select a specific branch as well (e.g. develop) so you can test script changes prior to merging to master

  12. Refresh Task Sequences inside WinPE

Can we please have an option to refresh the list of available task sequences when PXE Booting?

At present, we have to reboot the machine in order for a new Task Sequence to show, or if any changes have been made to that TS after PXE Booting (eg you forget to Distribute a package, or disable/enable a step).

  13. WMF 5.1 breaks class registrations for the ConfigMgr client agent

I've localized this issue to WMF 5.1 on Windows 7. With this installed, the WMI namespace: root\ccm\policy\defaultmacine\requestedconfig becomes invalid. This is important because in In-Place upgrade scenarios from Windows 7 to Windows 10, the task sequence agent cannot resume the task sequence without being able to read this namespace.

These are the relevant errors I see in the SMSTS.log:

Failed to open WMI Namespace 'root\ccm\policy\defaultmachine\requestedconfig'. WMI Repository may be corrupted. Invalid namespace (Error: 8004100E; Source: WMI)

Error compiling client config policies. code 8004100E

  15. More characters in the OSD Task Sequence description

I would like more space in the OSD Task Sequence description field (and possibly even include a link) so that we can adequately tell people what's required before and after running the Task Sequence and to tell them where to find help.

At the moment, we only have 2-3 lines of text available.

Perhaps replicate what's currently available in the application model with the Localised description on the Application catalog tab.

  16. Run PowerShell Script Success Codes

Would like to see the "Run PowerShell Script" task sequence task have the same Success Codes options as the "Run Command Line" task does. Would provide some additional control in the task sequences.

Currently to circumvent this I create a task sequence variable instead of an exit code to handle a subsequent step however I could likely do more if the Success Codes feature was available.

  17. Automatically remediate Provisioning Mode if client is in this state for x days

If a Configuration Manager Client Agent stays more than 2 days in Provisioning Mode it would be helpful if the client leaves this mode. Otherwise the device will not be managed and it makes it impossible to detect such devices as no Compliance checks or anything else can be done on them. It is annoying especially in cases where you Upgraded the OS from a legacy version to Windows 10 and the client stays in Provisioning Mode.

  18. Support installation of packages/apps via dynamic variables in Standalone Media

At the moment standalone media deployments only work when the content is referenced directly by the task sequence. There are some actions like installing apps/packages using dynamic variables which do not work.

The pre-staged media wizard was changed with SCCM 2012 SP1 so that you can add additional pre-staged content. I would like to see a similar approach where you can add additional content to standalone media and then this is checked first when the dynamic install action runs. There is already a process for adding the variables to the media, the only part that is missing is the abilityā€¦

  19. GUI Option for Offline OS Image Servicing Drive

When applying updates to a .wim file via offline image servicing the image and update files are copied to the C:\ drive of the site server. The only way to change this behavior from using the C:\ drive to something else is with the following method:

    https://cloudblogs.microsoft.com/enterprisemobility/2013/07/15/customizing-offline-servicing-of-operating-system-images/

This is not ideal, and apparently dangerous as one commentor on that page states they may have broken their SCCM environment for not following the instructions exactly.

It would be better to have a simple GUI-based option to change this setting, or a least a registry key.

  20. Display what distribution point is being used during a task sequence.

When using a task sequence I would like to know what DP is being used since we have multiple DPs and would hope that I'm not using one on the other side of town. IE......Applying Operating System from "Distribution Point" or Installing Application from "Distribution Point."
