  1. Task Sequence Pre-Cache for all Packages inside

It would be nice to have the ability to conditionally pre-cache all packages in Upgrade TS and not only OS Upgrade step.

To describe it in more details, in current design we are able to pre-cache only OS Upgrade step to computers based on conditions. This is not enough for companies with 20+ languages as best approach is to create en-us core image and then apply MUI on top of that. Doing this will cause system to report as e.g. de-de so we would need to download and distribute to 150+ DPs all supported Upgrade packages instead of distributing only…

Thanks for the feedback, updating status to Noted. See https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/configmgreng/2016/03/11/configmrguv/ for an explanation of each status

We have this in our backlog from when we introduced the pre-cache for OS Upgrade packages and agree it makes a ton of sense. The first action would probably be adding Make/Manufacturer for Driver Packages, then look at ways to address MUIs, Language packs

    • Revision History for task sequences

Could you add Revision History for task sequences? It would save you the effort of exporting and importing task sequences or keeping copies for References. This would be a nice to have feature in the Configuration Manager Console - although I'm sure we all have a scheduled job for exporting SCCM configuration automatically anyway.

Thanks for the feedback. Task Sequence export/import has Administrative comments field that can be used as well as the task sequence properties.
There’s no console versioning for task sequences currently but this is noted for future.

      • Allow option for GPO processing during Task Sequence

Right now GPO processing is disabled during TS execution. This is annoying as quite often there's settings and environment configuration for a machine pushed by GPO, and right now they only apply at the end of the TS.

It would be nice to have an explicit "process group policy" step in a TS, which would be the equivalent of a "gpupdate /force".

        • Mark easy way to query Driver Versions of all drivers on a system.

Please make an easy way to query Driver Versions of all drivers on a system from SCCM Hardware inventory without creating a custom MOF or looking at registry files? I found a forum thread on TechNet a few years old that said Microsoft said that using WMI class win32_pnpsigneddriver was unreliable and is why it was not available in SCCM hardware inventory and they were considering removing the class entirely. However the class remains in win 10 and is still the only way to query driver version using a script. It would be really useful to be able to have…

          • Better Task Sequence Step Options Tab Editor

Currently you can only remove and remove all from a task sequence option condition. I think it would be very helpful and time saving if you could copy/cut/paste conditionals from a right click menu.

            • DCR: Boot Images. Provide an option to prevent re-downloading boot images (Boot / Prestage Media)

Scenario: You create a Boot Media or Prestaged Media. Current behaviour is that as long as the boot image version from creation date matches the version inside the infrastructure everything is fine. System is starting Windows PE and executes the Task Sequence. If you add for example a new driver now to the boot image the new version causes Configuration Manager to download the boot image inside Windows PE and another restart into the updated version of the boot image. In case of a Prestaged Media scenario this painful, as UEFI systems might no longer work.

              Possible SOLUTION: Add a…

              • DCR: Task Sequence Export / Import

Add an optional option to provide new source location path for each package, application, ... when importing a Task Sequence that has been exported with content and references. Imagine you have 2 ConfigMgr environment a Test and a Production environment completely isolated from each other and you want an easy way to sync. A cool thing would be to only export "Metadata" of the Task Sequence and all References (Applications, Packages, ...). At the target site you have the same folder structure for content source for example \\sccmsources\share\Applications,\\sccmsources\share\Packages, ... and so on. If you start the import, you will be…

                • Apply Boundary Groups to WinPE Management Point selection

Currently it appears that when the SCCM agent in the WinPE boot image connects to a Management Point, it selects one without using the Boundary Group rules, instead selecting one from the AD published list, starting with the first alphabetically.
Instead this should behave like the full blown Windows SCCM Client and select a Management Point based on Boundary Groups such as IP range.
It is worth noting that Distribution Points are selected correctly according to Boundary Group by the WinPE client, for OSD content.

                  • Add the option to run a package and Run Command line from DP

We have the possibility to select to "Access content directly from the DP" when deploying a operating System image in a Task Sequence. It would be great to be able to do this for "Run Command Lines" as well.
Example scenario, you want to run a Powershell script from a package before the disk is formatted in a scenario where we use Bitlocker for instance.

                    • Remove from Collection / Move to Collection in OSD

Sometimes it might be handy to remove a computer from the OSD collection as a final step during the task sequence. Or additionally add the computer to additional collection(s) for for example extra software deployment or another task sequence.
Now scripts need to be created therefore and in my experience this doesn't always work well.
A predefined step where the collectionname or collectionID needs to be added to add (or remove) the computer to (or from) would be much appreciated.

                      • Mac

                        Provide Mac Provisioning with CM12.

Other vendors provide the ability to image and fully manage the Mac device, when will Configuration Manager provide this feature? Imaging Windows platforms is only part of a corporation desktop landscape, we also support Mac, having a single solution would make logical sense.

                        • OSD Task Sequence Restart Computer step needs "if reboot pending" option

Please add to the Restart Computer OSD task sequence step an option that will check if the system requires a reboot and then only restart the computer if it needs to. Right now to work around this need, we have to execute a PowerShell script and write the results to a custom task sequence variable and then use that variable as a condition on the Restart Computer step. Adding this option natively would be much more elegant. Attached is the script we're using.

                          • Option to direct import images from MS VLSC

It would be convenient to have a method to enter/save your volume licensing credentials to have it directly download an iso from the volume licensing site, extract the wim into a designated storage location, and then import it directly into the console. This would especially be nice considering the more frequent release of new Windows 10 builds. I like running my B&C from the newest image available.

                            • OSD Task Sequence (1703) Not Displaying

When running a task sequence to deploy a 1703 based image, the second part of the task sequence: "Setup Operating System" does not display.

The screen saying "Just a moment..." is displayed instead of the SCCM task sequence screen, meaning you cannot see the progress.

If the machine is left, it does actually complete the steps, but it would be nice to see the SCCM screen once again!

Thanks for your feedback. Updating status to Noted and apologies for not getting to this one till now.

From my testing this appears to be limited to 1703 (Redstone 2) or 1709 (Redstone 3). All tests with 1803 (Redstone 4) and 1809 (Redstone 5) have been fine also with Task Sequence Progress UI shown. The ‘Just a moment..’ is not something under task sequence control, installing manually shows the same behavior.

Is this still an issue for you all with the more recent Windows releases?

It would be really useful if the SMSTSPreferredAdvertID feature would work without every CM Client (known or unknown) needing to have the policy for the hidden deployment. This is usually set using a front end menu by a technician or end user driven deployment. If there are multiple task sequence deployments that need to be available, this could result in a large amount of unnecessary policies. The other option is to have a webservice drop a system in a collection prior to kicking off the task sequence engine, however this has drawl backs and can result in a delay in…

                                • Task Sequence deployment option of "While no user is logged on"

Give us the option to restrict a required Task Sequence to "When no user is logged on" This would be particularly helpful when using Task Sequences to push out Application updates. That way if the TS tries to run while a user is logged on it won't fail as soon as it hits the applications which are set to "When no user is logged on"

                                  • Use SMSTSRebootDelay value during 'Install Application' Step

Use the value from the built-in variable SMSTSRebootDelay for reboots that occur during the 'Install Application - Install applications according to dynamic variable list' step. This would reduce the time for OS deployments.

                                    • AD Authentication for PXE boot

It would be useful to integrate AD authentication in the WinPE boot image for PXE boot OSD.

When deploying operating systems with MDT and WDS, users are prompted to authenticate against AD when PXE booting. However, in SCCM the only supported way to secure the PXE point is with a DP password that all users share.

There are third party "hacks" which can integrate AD authentication in the WinPE boot image (Johan Arwidmark's ADSI drivers) but it seems like this would be simple to implement within the product itself since it is already done in MDT/WDS.

                                      • Have a Task Sequence Step to call the Uninstall of an Application and support both the Standard Install and Dynamic Install.

While a Step for Run Command line can be used for most Windows Installer, if an application uses a EXE it would be nice for the application to be downloaded and the exe used.

                                        • Preflight checks support in OSD for Win10 upgrades

Provide a better way to support preflight checks for OS upgrades in terms of success/error being shown to users. Being able to show users a warning sign instead of a hard stop error would give better user experience. Currently, we either get "Installed successful" message, with having continue on error checked, or hard stop or scary error message that's presented to users if requirements aren't met. Everyone uses preflight checks now for OSD, please support it better with better notifications (customized) and error/warning handling.

Thanks for the feedback – updating status to Noted. See https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/configmgreng/2016/03/11/configmrguv/

As mentioned there’s some excellent samples provided from our MVP community. We’ll likely break this item to distinct pieces e.g. expanding Check Readiness step to test for Battery/Is Wired etc.

As well as preflight using /Compat prior to upgrade can help with finding issues before deployment. For 1806 that will now run without stopping CCMExec (setting ProvisioningMode).
Coupled with using /Compat for upgrade Windows produced SetupDiag to help diagnose upgrade blockers in more detail – see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/upgrade/setupdiag
