  1. Run PowerShell Script item in Task Sequences should allow alternate credentials

Right now, if I need to run a PS script in a Task Sequence requires to use the Run Command Line item using PowerShell.exe. However, if I want to run a script with parameters, then I must use the -command option for PowerShell.exe, which has some odd parsing problems that can cause scripts to fail when run this way.

  2. Integrate /ResetBase and WIM Optimization/Exporting into Offline Servicing

In the interest in making my OS deployment task sequences as fast and as optimized as possible, I always optimize WIM files anytime they're updated or re-created.

In my build/capture task sequence, I add a step at the very end before capture to run DISM /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase so that all of the superseded updates are removed from the base image before it is captured. This results in a smaller WIM file and obviously, faster deployment times.

With the built-in Offline Servicing option for OS images, once new updates are added, they remain in the component store of the image whenā€¦

  3. Add support for tftp windowsize

I think it would be great if SCCM could have a configurable value in registry for TFTP windowsize just as it has with TFTP blocksize. Both WDS and bootmgr.exe seem to handle it but there is no easy way to get this option into the generated BCD file upon PXE boot. Seems like a low hanging fruit.

  4. Pause a Task Sequence when you want, as many times you want with just a variable

By default you can pause a Task Sequence by adding a step in the TS that will display a msgbox.

It would be cool to be able to pause a TS when you want and as many times you want.

It is possible by changing the ztiutility.vbs file and add the below process:
    - Create a new TS variable TSPause
    - If this variable is configured to True a msgbox is diplayed

See a post I did about this:

    Updating status to completed.

Our Task Sequence debugger covers this and allows setting break points for each step.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/configmgr/osd/deploy-use/debug-task-sequence

Regarding popping a message box, there’s additions in our 2003 Tech Preview released yesterday you may find interesting. Links added to this item https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/15154383-include-the-serviceui-exe-functionality-in-task-se

  5. Need support for Option 82 in PXE DHCP handshake as network tenant based on BGP/MPLS needs it for forwarding to DHCP Client.

In order to avoid using distributed PXE Servers a support of the Option on PXE DHCP Handshake would make proper inter tenant forwarding possible.

Updating status to completed – see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/understand/find-help#send-a-suggestion for an explanation of each value.

Our 1906 release is now available and has added support for option 82. Please note this only applies to the new PXE responder.

  6. Stop CMTrace from asking us if we want to use it as the default viewer for log files in WinPE

Please add the following registry keys to WinPE whenever a Boot Image is created/updated to prevent it from asking every time if we want to use CMTrace as the default viewer for log files:

    Reg add HKU\Software\Classes.lo_ /ve /d Log.File /f

    Reg add HKU\Software\Classes.log /ve /d Log.File /f

    Updating status to completed

This is available in our 1802 release, details below

One question I’ve been asked a few times is ‘can I take the copy of CMTrace from the Tech Preview build and use it with my version of SCCM?’ – answer is Yes.

  7. Hardware inventory sould include Secure Boot state by default

In ConfigMgr TP 1701 the Hardware Inventory now collects UEFI information. To complete the storyĀ the Secure Boot should also be included by default.

  8. OSD Task Sequence (1703) Not Displaying

When running a task sequence to deploy a 1703 based image, the second part of the task sequence: "Setup Operating System" does not display.

The screen saying "Just a moment..." is displayed instead of the SCCM task sequence screen, meaning you cannot see the progress.

If the machine is left, it does actually complete the steps, but it would be nice to see the SCCM screen once again!

Thanks for all your suggestions and feedback, updating status to completed since this appeared limited to earlier Windows releases.
Testing with 1803 (Redstone 4) and 1809 (Redstone 5) have been fine also with Task Sequence Progress UI shown. The ā€˜Just a moment..ā€™ is not something under task sequence control, installing manually shows the same behavior.
If you do see issues please file a bug or another UV item and we’ll investigate.

  9. task sequence auto clear cache option after application install

When we deploy an operating system we like to deploy the majority of the required applications at that time to ensure the computer is locked for the entire process and when the user then goes to use the computer all the applications are available. The issue is some of our applications are large and we have to break up the install application step with a clear cache step to ensure the applications install successfully. Now with 1702 we can have up to 99 applications in the install application step but with out the intelligence built into the task sequence toā€¦

  10. Don't Set CCMClient to Provisioning mode if running Compat /SCANONLY option

Currently, anytime you run the upgrade OS step, it set the client into provisioning mode, despite the options you're choosing. Could this be changed, that if you pick "Compatibility scan without upgrade" it would NOT put the client into provisioning mode.

I've had users reboot the computer when the scan was running (silently in the background), and then the client was in provisioning mode.

Which version of SCCM are you using? We have multiple checks to reset ProvisioningMode to false in event of Rollback.
Would you be ok with contact to gather logs from one of the rollback and some other info.?

  11. Provide a method for expiring standalone media

There are many ways to expire standalone media but most involve using a date stamp to compare with system time to determine if the sequence is still supported. Changing the system time circumvents this process. With Windows Servicing, it will be critical that an administrator be able to limit installation at or near the end of a support cycle. A supported process for expiring media programmatically ensures new devices aren't installed outside of a supported servicing window.

Add Battery, Power state check to Task Sequence "Check Readiness"

Would be nice to add an extra option there to check the power state, this is very important for when making a task sequence available to the user.

  13. Add keyboard layout settings in the Apply Windows Settings step

I would like you to add the keyboard layout setting in the Apply Windows Settings step.
Please add it as shown in the screenshot below.
Currently, keyboard layout settings are manually added to the registry within the Task Sequence.

    Command line:
    cmd.exe /c reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters /f /v "LayerDriver JPN" /t REGSZ /d kbd106.dll & reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters /f /v "OverrideKeyboardIdentifier" /t REGSZ /d PCAT106KEY & reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters /f /v "OverrideKeyboardSubtype" /t REGDWORD /d 2 & reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters /f /v "OverrideKeyboardType" /t REG_DWORD /d 7

  14. WinPE PeerCaching - Applications

Add the ability to cache Applications via WinPE PeerCaching. This would allow admins to fully pre-populate a location with content: This would be huge, and a game changer for a lot of organizations that don't own a 3rd party solution.

The WinPE PeerCaching, as it is now, works great, for the content it can do. Adding Applications would make this a complete solution, instead of a stop gap to a 3rd party solution.

  15. Run PowerShell Command in Task Sequence

In the a Task Sequence you have the option to 'Run PowerShell Script' where you have to specify a package \ script name etc. Could we have 'Run PowerShell Command' this saves having to download the script and run it. For example at the moment I 'Run Command Line' and use 'powershell -command start-sleep 300'. It would be great if we could just run native powershell commands.

  16. Allow Retry After Early Failures in OSD Instead of Angry Reboot

There are a lot of common failures right at the beginning of the task sequence that cause a lot of anger. Can we please allow a retry for these three common scenarios that happen right at the start?

    No Network Connection
    - If you hit ā€œNextā€ before the network has startedā€¦ or before your network cable was plugged in, it should give you an error that you can retry after the network situation is fixed.

    No Task Sequence Found
    - This often comes up because there really is no task sequence targeting the device, even though you thought it shouldā€¦

  17. Offline Servicing - Select Indexes to Update

At the moment, when you do Offline Image Servicing on a Server WIM - it applies it to all image indexes (Standard, Standard Core, Datacenter, Datacenter Core, etc...)

Can we have an option to select which index (or indexes) we would like to service?

If someone only deploys Standard (gui) and never Datancentre, they don't really need to patch it..

It would also save some time

  18. Windows 10 Rollback via SCCM

The 30 Day Rollback option is available for all windows 10 users, but currently can not be automated using SCCM.

This should change, as this feature closely integrates with Microsofts testing strategy of using different branches which grow bigger in size as the rollout of a new build progresses.

When planing to integrate a similar scenario, in our case, we anticipate errors which have not been cought in testing of the previous branch and need to be able to quickly restore operations.

  19. Task Sequences should be supported outside of operating system deployment scenarios

Task sequences are only officially supported in operating system deployment scenarios. Task sequences are incredibly useful with their explicit logic and tight control. There's many cases where it can be useful to deploy task sequences outside of operating system deployment scenarios for complex software deployment scenarios.

Task sequences should be made a first class citizen outside of operating system deployment scenarios.
