active directory description
Add an column to the devices view that would display Active Directory descriptions in console.
This can be done today w/ #SCCM 1802 (and previous versions too). I will mark started… and watch comments for why this doesn’t just work… before I mark this straight up completed…
1) On the CAS (or standalone primary), go to Administration → Hierarchy Configuration → Discovery methods
2) right click on Active Directory System Discovery and bring up the Properties form. Active Directory Attributes tab, and then click on Custom. In the form that appears, type the name of the attribute. Click OK, and make sure you have added it as an attribute to discover. Run discovery after exiting properties form.
3) Now when you go to the Devices view and right click on a device and go to its Properties form, you will see the new attribute showing up there.
That way the description get into the device properties, but is it possible to have it as a column in the UI ??
The hope is to be able to have ad description as a column in the console rather than having to hit properties of a device to view it.
I think there was a misunderstanding. When I right click on a device I can perfectly see the description from AD.
What I hope to get is that I can also see the description from AD in the Devices View directly. So I have a quick overview of devices of a collection for example and I don't have to open Properties individually to see the description.
This would be very beneficial for validating collection membership when using AD query to populate the collection.
This would make life so much easier! Why pull it in on a query but you can't easily view it.
Anything that you set to be discoverable in the user or computer object should be able to be added as a sortable column.

in the admin console would be what I need
I would at least like to be able to view the description from the console, when you have several thousand computer named the inventory number it is hard to figure out what is what without descriptions. We already build queries from this data, if I remember correctly we had to add it to the AD sync settings.

This would make identifying machines so much faster...

Computer description column that pulls the description data from AD when viewing devices
it is the GC.

@djam - It looks like Description is a member of the global catalog going back to the 2000 schema, so hopefully this isn't hard to do:
Since eventually someone is going to want to build collection queries with this data, it would be great if it ended up in the DB instead of just being displayed.

@djam This is just my personal opinion, but if you're going to synchronise a single AD attribute into the database, you might as well give us the entire attribute list to choose from.
I'd personally just like to see AD data in the console, the other thing seems to be too out-of-scope for this one uservoice idea.
Do you just want this to see it in the UI? That's simpler that sync'ing it into the database. It's hard to copy into the database, because AD discovery is efficient when it syncs directly from the global catalog. I do not think desc is in the GC. If you just want it in the UI, perhaps the UI can sync realtime from AD when you view it.
