How can we improve Configuration Manager?

WPF Support in WinPE

A lot of folks are building WPF apps and frontends that are used at the start of OSD. The most recent PE has stopped supporting this all together. I'm not sure if this is the correct user voice, but the ability to whip up an app to run in PE makes OSD a lot more flexible. It'd be excellent to have it back and to have it be a bit more robust.

Updating status to Noted.

Thanks for the feedback, certainly understand the frustration at not being able to use WPF anymore.

I’m not really sure what to do with this item as we do not own WinPE. Also, the documentation here – – calls out WPF is not supported.

There’s some more information and a workaround posted here –

You mentioned ‘correct user voice’ – I could not find one for WinPE. This is the Windows Server UV –

Let us know if any of this information helps.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply, Bob. I've come across both of the docs you mention. The call out to WPF being unsupported seemed to come after folks started complaining that their OSD frontends had stopped working. Like most folks, we are currently relying on the workaround to keep OSD rolling.

I fully realized when I posted that the SCCM folks don't own PE, but I can't imagine another product that leans on it so heavily. I guess I'm hoping the SCCM team can work internally to see if anything can be done. I'll go make a post on the server UV and see what happens.

    Thanks again!
