Task Sequence Allow Application Installs by Administrative Categories
We'd like to see the following functionality added to the Install Application Task Sequence step.
Install application according to administrative categories.
We as a point of practice ALWAYS include some kind of Administrative Category in the Applications we package in SCCM it would be nice to have a way to leverage that in something more than just filtering in Configuration Manager searches
dynamic variable list is kind of nice but we have to set a variable list in EVERY Collection we want to deploy said applications to and if we have to add or remove an application we have to edit EVERY Collection's variable list (And we have over 100 Device Collections). In the end though we can't shake the nasty feeling of these so called dynamic variables being more analogous to a bunch of HARD CODED Key Value Pair collections in our .NET or PowerShell code than anything truly dynamic.
Having the ability to leverage the Administrative Categories would give us SOC between the Task Sequence and the Applications themselves and it would be as loosely coupled as possible.
Want to change to a different set of Applications?
- Add/Remove/Change the Administrative Category in ONE place in the task sequence
Want to Remove an Application from being installed as part of a Category
- Remove the Administrative Category in ONE place in each application
Thanks for entertaining this feature request
