Remove Dependencies on WDS
Server 2016 no longer has a min-gui feature. With this removal, it is only possible to deploy a distribution point that supports Operating System Deployment to a server with a full gui.
Distribution points are perfect candidates for server core! They should be fully supported, including PXE booting for Operating System Deployment.
Updating status to complete, this is now available with our 1806 release
Thanks for the suggestion and feedback
Recently, I've seen the new 1806 PXE responder sending wdsmgfw.efi with a blocksize of 1468, causing a corrupted download on a VMWare client. Rebooting the same virtual client several times, a few times we had luck and the file was successfully send with a blocksize of 1456. Setting RamDiskTFTPBlockSize to 1024 only helps for downloading boot.wim (when the customized BCD has been loaded). I found MSKB975710 describing the problem and a workaround for WDS, but did not test this. As we had more luck with physical clients or changing VMWare client's nic we can accept the problem for the moment.
However, could you provide an option for the SCCM PXE responder to send no larger blocks than 1456 for the efi file?
