Option to throttle content to computers without a local DP at the site
I love a way throttle content delivery to any computers that do not have a local DP at their site.
I can setup client policies but if the computer moves from site to site, this doesn't work. As one site may have a local DP and the other does not.
If there is a DP at the site, they will receive content quickly without consuming bandwidth. So there is no reason to throttle. However, if they're at a site without a local DP, we have it going to our main sccm server at our datacenter. The delivery can consume quite a bit of bandwidth at times.
Branchcache is nice for desktops but I prefer not to use it on laptops as I'm not sure if they'll be on wireless or not. I prefer laptops on wireless not to be used to distribute packages.
1. Laptops on WiFi, typically this is not an issue as BC shares data on lots of machines. So it never goes to a single machine and gets all the data from that. Instead the load is spread nicely from all machines.
2. If the DP is on the same subnet it will not be bandwidth managed, instead full throttle.
3. If the DP is in the same physical site, but not same subnet, you can reset the policy with a cmdline triggered by an event in task scheduler.
