  1. 3rd Party Patching - SCUP Integration with SCCM Console

Integrate the SCUP tool on to SCCM Admin Console. This will give a single pane of glass view for all patching activities (including importing 3rd party patches).

Phase one of these changes are in 1803 tp, as well as 1802 production. We will continue to add more integration in the future with a huge chunk coming for 1806 production.

Updating to note the improvements went in to 1802:

Automatically importing WSUS signing certificate (which is used to sign third party updates) into the SCCM database, and then that certificate is pushed down to clients Trusted Publisher certificate store. (If admin enables this on the SUP top level site components configuration).

Enabling “Allow signed updates from an intranet Microsoft updates service location” group policy on clients, which tells Windows to allow them to install 3rd party signed updates during normal Software Updates sync/install (if admin enables this in Software Updates client agent settings).

    • Fix the Software Update Task Sequence (built-in TS patching during OSD)

How is this still a problem? Ask any MVP and they all agree: the built-in task sequence for patching during OSD doesn't work. It doesn't survive double reboots, it has a upper patch limit before it crashes ... it's basically garbage. I don't mind making golden images in MDT, but I shouldn't _have_ to ... and yet I do. I makes SCCM feel less like a singular solution.

I’m updating the status. For 1606 we’ve made some changes, listed below.
As more are added we’ll update what Tech Preview/Release they appear in.

        Timeout scan is now configurable
We added a new task sequence variable to allow a configurable timeout for scan. Variable name is SMSTSSoftwareUpdateScanTimeout, default is 30 minutes. Value is set in seconds so an hour is 60×60=3600

        Logging changes
In the SMSTS.log we list the log files to check for updates download and evaluation.
        These are UpdateDeployment.log, UpdatesHandler.log, WUAHandler.log and WindowsUpdate.log

        New Option for full scan
There’s a new checkbox added to the Install Updates step – ‘Evaluate software updates from cached scan results’
If the checkbox is on we use cached results, if the checkbox is off we do a full scan
Task Sequences that are upgraded will have this option checked on – this is parity with the existing behavior

        Power management changes…

      • Include the Right Click tools kit as part of the Console, not as a seperate download addon

Include the Right Click tools adon as part of the Console install, not as a seperate download addon

        • Option to uninstall an application when a user or device falls out of scope of the collection

This is a buggy, Would we like the option to have ' Uninstall Application when Resource falls out of scope of this collection' when an application is deployed to a collection, this would save us having to create 2 collections ( install and uninstall) and to deployments. This would save SO much time and reduce the complicity of application management.

          • SCCM Report - Easy way to create Report & Dashboard

Not really easy to create some SCCM report or Dashboard if your're not a SQL DBA .. even with Report Builder.
Could be awesome to have a new tool where Reports or Dashbaord could be created easily whithout searching which SQL views I need ..ect ... Like some others concurrent application give.

            • Need WSUS Maintenance tasks

There should be a few built in maintenance tasks to go through and complete all the maintenance tasks that are needed for WSUS. I find having to run through these steps every month to be quite tedious requiring a lot of change control each month to get the maintenance work completed for WSUS.

Everything described in this article should be automatically done by CM: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/configurationmgr/2016/01/26/the-complete-guide-to-microsoft-wsus-and-configuration-manager-sup-maintenance/

                • Site Server High Availability or Clustering

Configuration Manager is becoming more mission critical every day. The ability to Cluster the Site Server role (Inboxes & SMS Provider) is more and more important as that is the single point of failure for a Primary Site.

If the Site Server role goes down the Primary Site is down no matter how many Management Points or SMS Provider etc. exist.

If we could Cluster the Site Server or at least have 2 systems share that role for High Availability then this would no longer be an issue.

Even though we can designate multiple SMS Providers, if the site system…

                  • See if a user is logged in and if computer is active or idle

Devices should show the current logged in user. Next to that should be an indication of if that session is active or not.

This would allow us to see where a user is logged in without having to wait on the userprimarydevice field to populate. Being able to see if the session is active or not will help us know if we can remote in without interrupting a user.

This can be done today w/ #SCCM 1802 (and previous versions too). I will mark started… and watch comments for why this doesn’t just work… before I mark this straight up completed…

                          Steps:
                          1) On the CAS (or standalone primary), go to Administration → Hierarchy Configuration → Discovery methods
                          2) right click on Active Directory System Discovery and bring up the Properties form. Active Directory Attributes tab, and then click on Custom. In the form that appears, type the name of the attribute. Click OK, and make sure you have added it as an attribute to discover. Run discovery after exiting properties form.
                          3) Now when you go to the Devices view and right click on a device and go to its Properties form, you will see the new attribute showing up there.

                        • Windows 10 Servicing Dashboard: Make it clickable

When I go to the Windows 10 Servicing Dashboard, I got a nice PieChart of the Windows 10 Clients and their Version.
But when I click on the PieChart, nothing happens. It would be great to have the same experience on this Dashboard like on the SCEP Dashboards.
That means, if I click on the PieChart one of the Windows 10 Version, a new collection would be opened, with the corresponding Devices.

                            • Integrate LEDBAT into ConfigMgr

LEDBAT is a Congestion Control Mechanism that's coming to Windows Server 2016/Windows 10. Successfully used by BitTorrent/Apple Software Update to reduce Bandwidth Saturation during content downloads. This would make WAN transfers of content by BITS (or any other mechanism) 'give way' to other business traffic. Would also improve Software Update scans and HW/Inv Uploads to the MP. LEDBAT makes sure that only unused bandwidth is used for the transfer.

                              • When Expiring Updates based on Supersedence Rules also Decline them in WSUS

When SCCM expires updates based on the configured Supersedence Rules it only does so in SCCM, not WSUS. Additionally, SCCM does not approve updates in WSUS.
Because of these two facts the WSUS Cleanup Wizard will never decline superseded updates. They are neither expired (as they are in SCCM) nor are their superseding updates approved (a requirement for the WSUS Cleanup Wizard). This causes a bloated Update Catalog that can cause very real client issues. There are scripts available to handle this situation but this is the last mile issue in regards to WSUS maintenance. If the product declined the…

                                • Improved automation and extensibility by exposing Configuration Manager functionality through a REST web API

Exposing Configuration Manager functionality through RESTful web API's would open up a whole new world for interacting with ConfigMgr.
E.g. a web Admin console and easier integration with Service Management Automation (SMA).
It should also be easier for 3rd party vendors to create new web based solutions for say an self-service portal or a Windows App for tracking an OS or application deployment on a mobile device or phone.
Personally I would really like any easier way to interact with ConfigMgr. when running in Windows PE (OS Deployment) or a web portal for non-admins to provision new or existing machine…

                                  • Set a default or preferred boot image for PXE

Have an option to set a specific boot image for PXE. In an environment where there are multiple boot images, when a device PXE boots it will first download whichever boot image (that is PXE capable) associated with the most recently deployed task sequence. It would be nice to have an easier way to just set a default or preferred boot image for PXE instead.

                                      I’m moving status to started.

In the 1610 release of SCCM, we now use the boot WIM that exactly matches the client architecture. If there is none, we use that one that is compatible with the client architecture.

Please test that out and if the changes do not address your ask please let us know. I’ll then set to completed at the end of this release cycle

                                    • Access log files from Console

Make the log files directly accessible via the console rather than digging around in the file system trying to remember which file holds which logs and ideally make them accessible from a context menu in the relevant areas.

                                      • Improve and speed up adding or removal processes of direct members to collections, optimize handling in backend

We need a quick way to quickly populate or empty collections. Targets should be imported as rules without triggering other processes in the background (eval/re-built). The same also applies to removal rules.

Please implement something like an cmdlet “Add-CollectionMemberRules” / “Remove-CollectionMemberRules” with fast adding rules method, without delays, without rebuilding the complete collection sets in the background. The cmdlet should support especially adding rules like "DirectMembers".

                                        Note:
This will help to control and steer application (ramp-up / ramp-down) rollouts, depending on device target lists, created by internal IT or delivered by business partner. The lists could based on different information…
