  1. Fix the renaming of collections

The following behaviour should be fixed

    1. Create 'Collection A'
    2. Create 'Collection B'
    3. Go to the properties of Collection A. Under Membership Rules, go to Add Rule and select 'Include Collections'. Choose 'Collection B'.
    4. Rename 'Collection B' to 'Collection C'.
    5. Note that under the Membership Rules, Collection C is still referenced using it's old name.

When a collection is renamed, this change should also be reflected under the 'Membership Rules' of other collections.

  3. Don't install VC++ 2005 redistributable during the ConfigMgr current branch client installation as it is a 10+ year old pre-req

Don't install VC++ 2005 redistributable during the ConfigMgr current branch client installation as it is a 10+ year old pre-requisite. Make it so only the latest version of C++ is installed.

  4. Updates and Servicing does not clean up EasySetupPayload folder once a new version is installed.

As the final step in Updates and Servicing, remove previous installer files for current branch builds and superseded hotfixes from %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\EasySetupPayload or add and enable a scheduled cleanup script/

Also there are now 3 locations with the full installation source files:
    %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\cd.latest
    %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\EasySetupPayload
    %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\CMUStaging

  5. Improve addMembershipRules implementation for large direct membership collection or provide Stored Procedure to do the same

Today we use an automated process to populate our device collections with machines from a fore-front configuration system.

After we had exceeded 250000 machines in some collections adding new machines to these large collections has become a real pain. Meanwhile it takes from 40s to 7 minutes to a add a single machine. The SCCM console cannot be used anymore for large collections. It crashes with OOM when the collection is opened or a new computer is added using right click.

Interestingly execution times don't really differ in terms of the number of machines added in one call of theā€¦

  6. Integrate Configuration Manager Reporting with Power BI or provide OData reporting

Configuration Manager is a great source of information for organisations. The problem with this repository of data is that it requires someone to take advantage of it. Reports or queries need to be generated by someone who knows what they are doing. Connecting Configuration Manager to PowerBI or providing an OData interface would allow Configuration Manager inventory data to be more easily accessed and used

  7. Option to not reboot on OSD TS Failure

Often times OSD TS fails while in WinPE (and obviously outside of WinPE) but unless the tech or user is sitting at the machine to press f8 (to bring up command prompt) the TS gives a timed windows until a reboot occurs. If my techs are not at their desk or if the imaging depots image things over night they are not there to see what failed or grab logs from PE and often times since it just reboots into windows they don't even realized the TS didn't finish. I realize not everyone would want this but it should beā€¦

  8. Please bring the meta tags back to the documentation so we can search term

Back in 2012 and even 2007 the docs had a meta tag called appliestoproduct, which allowed to searched just the product docs for the version you were looking for.

This allowed the build of search providers like these:
    https://oscc1-public.sharepoint.com/tn-library-searchpage

This functionality is now no longer available

  9. Code change for the Service Connection Tool to allow proxy configuration

ConfigMgr 1511 CB's Service Connection Point came out of the box with a pretty cool ability to support Offline \ On-Demand updates even for those without internet access to their ConfigMgr environment through the Service Connection Tool. However for those in environments who have to content with Proxy this becomes an issue. While you can configure the site server system with proxy information that is only good for the system housing the Service Connection point, this post is requesting a change to add a switch and code base to support the switch to the Service Connection Tool to allow theā€¦

  10. SMSTSLastActionName

In our OSD image we utilize the _SMSTSLastActionRetCode for error capturing. This helps us identify in the log where the image is specifically failing, but it doesn't provide very much value to the technician performing the image.

It would be nice if there was an additional variable of _SMSTSLastActionName, which passes the task sequence steps name instead of the return code. This would allow us to display a prompt with the action that failed in addition to the failure code.

Thanks for all your suggestions and feedback, updating status to completed. This was actually completed in 1810 release, my bad for not updating.

SCCM 1902 fast Ring released today

  11. Add Option for "OS Build" Number in Hardware Inventory

It would be incredibly useful if the "OS Build" number could be added via Hardware Inventory as admins could then report accurately on which patch level devices are at. e.g. 14393.1532 tells me which version of Windows is installed and also which CU is installed (via the 1532 part of the number).

Currently this is only possible via script at build time but would very useful if added as a native item in Hardware Inventory.

  12. OSD - Have different command-line options in the "Upgrade Operating System Task Sequence" to upgrade Windows 10

Several command-line options are available to upgrade Windows 10 (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/commercialize/manufacture/desktop/windows-setup-command-line-options).

By default, the "Upgrade operating system" task use the following command "Setup.exe /auto Upgrade /NoReboot /Quiet /DynamicUpdate Disable /ImageIndex 1 /PostOOBE <location> /PostRollback <location>" and if you want to use other switches, you must delete the default 'Upgrade operating system" task and use a "Run command line" task.

    Could you provide a system to dynamically change command-line options (eg switches [/ Auto {Clean | DataOnly | Upgrade}], [/ InstallLangPacks <location>], ...).

  13. Increase max length of Package/Program Command Line

The max is currently 260 characters for a package/program command line. This means a lot of things that could be a single powershell or cmd.exe line end up needing content for a .ps1 or .cmd file. Please increase the max to 2048-ish characters so more can get done in one line without content.

  14. Maintain Hardware Inventory customizations made to configuration.mof during upgrades

Currently, upgrading to 1602 blows away any customizations made for extending hardware inventory in configuration.mof, requiring you to manually back up the settings and restore them after the upgrade.

Make that go away, or at least less of a problem.

Some suggested solutions in order of perceived difficulty:

    - Add a warning to pre-req checker if you don't have a standard configuration.mof so you know to re-implement your changes.

    - Merge the changes into the customer's existing configuration.mof instead of wiping/replacing it.

    - Remove the need for configuration.mof entirely - build a GUI for adding customizations, especially registry customizations

    Thanksā€¦

  15. Bundle MDOP into SCCM already

We already get App-V for free for use with RDS, just lets just go value add with this for SCCM. It would make sooooo many people so happy.

Why can't I use the DaRT unless I have MDOP? Again: the amount of pain it saves in the mass deployment world makes it an awesome add-on.

I can see why MDOP would be a separate purchase for people who are trying to get away with just MDT ... but for those who paid for SystemCenter and are thus paying for an annual subscription ... these are all things the base SCCMā€¦

  17. Support PXE responder to run on same server as DHCP

Currently it is not supported to use the built in PXE responder on the same server that is running DHCP. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have their own servers for SCCM DPs.

  18. I want XP/server2003 lite support in Configmgr 1511 and above

Stuck with adoption of 1511 blocking multiple customers from upgrading to 1511 that still have mission critical XP systems . (and yes customers are aware and customers are planning to upgrade ASAP ā€¦but it will take them a huge investment )

    An example : I have a customer that is managing with CM12 r2 sp1 roughly 4000 Win7 x64 , 600 XP embedded , 2500 servers , 150 XP professional ,and 300 windows 10 clients .

They want to go to the 1511 build , but are blocked by the adaption as the 1511 client for XP Pro is notā€¦

    Discussed this with Kenny…

I’m going to mark this as completed – so you can all have your votes back. XP/W2K3 are out of support, but we do not block them in ConfigMgr 1511. They should continue to work as before, and you can “use at your own risk”, and “your mileage may vary”… But they are not blocked by the product. We especially wanted to make sure you could use ConfigMgr + OSD to upgrade those machines from XP → new OSs (which is one of the reasons we don’t block XP/W2k3). If you hit a bug, we won’t necessarily fix it… unless you can repro the bug on a supported OS.

  19. Add "Client Notification" options for devices (and not just device collections)

Today we can run client notification actions on collections or devices inside a collection.
usually when we search for a specific device we do it from "Devices".
It would only make sense to have these options from "Devices" as well and not just by go and browse in "All Systems" or so

This is fixed in the just shipped #SCCM 1802 release. For both Primary User, and Logged on user. We still will improve a couple things:
    1) it is only in devices views; and we will add it in more views (collections, etc.)
    2) We actually think we can do even better than this, and use the SCCM fast channel to show currently logged in now users. If you like this idea, vote here:
