  1. Task Sequences should be supported outside of operating system deployment scenarios

Task sequences are only officially supported in operating system deployment scenarios. Task sequences are incredibly useful with their explicit logic and tight control. There's many cases where it can be useful to deploy task sequences outside of operating system deployment scenarios for complex software deployment scenarios.

Task sequences should be made a first class citizen outside of operating system deployment scenarios.

  2. New-CMApplication rejects icons larger than 250x250

New-CMApplication rejects icons larger than 250x250 and returns the warning and error below, even though the SCCM console allows icons up to 500x500.
WARNING: The maximum size of an icon is 250px X 250px.
New-CMApplication : Validation of input parameters failed. Cannot continue.

  3. Enable co-management using multiple ConfigMgr hierarchies to one Intune tenant

Some customers has multiple SCCM environments (Test and Production), and want to enable co-management from multiple (two) ConfigMgr hierarchies.
They need to test and verify that nothing is broken before moving into production.

  4. Control cache size using client settings

It would be nice to be able to control the client cache size settings using the client settings policies. This way you have a simple way to increase it if you have a package which is larger than the initial deployed size.

  5. Provide a version of cmtrace that is compatible with AppLocker / Device Guard

At the moment when cmtrace is opened, it extracts the appropriate architecture version to AppData\Local\Temp\<temporary file name>.tmp and executes it. Customers often put cmtrace in the system32 directory of computers to aid with troubleshooting.

With recent randsomware attacks, companies are starting to look at blocking programs from executing from AppData with AppLocker and Device Guard.

A workaround so far has been to copy the tmp file and rename it to cmtrace.exe and placing it in approved directory for executing applications, but this sort of extra effort could easily be solved by providing an update to the tool that simply includesā€¦

  6. Download only the latest Branch \ upgrade of ConfigMgr

both in online and offline modes of the Service Connection Point, when installing 1511 and then get the updates, ConfigMgr downloads 1602, 1602 hotfixes and 1606 EasySetups (and all of their prerequisites) when in 99% of the cases - we only need the latest release.
this causes a lot of time waiting and bandwidth usage for nothing and it will probably get worse as there will be more future release.
we want an option to choose what release to download instead of download them all

  7. Software Center - Highlight relevant item after user clicks "new software is available" notification

    Scenario:
    - End user receives a "new software is available notification' (balloon/toast)
    - End user clicks the notification
    - Software Center opens and shows the "Applications" tab

There is no indication which is the new item where the notification refers too. The user needs to look for any new items in a potentially large list.

It would be nice if the relevant item would be highlighted and/or (temporarily) be listed somewhere on top of the list.

  9. Add missing InstallationBehaviourType parameter to new DeploymentType cmdlets in SCCM Powershell Cmdlets.

This goes for all new Add/Set-CM*DeploymentType but for my example, I'll refer to Add-CMScriptDeployment.

An example below is my generic Script Deployment Type.

    Add-CMScriptDeploymentType `
    -ApplicationName "$PublicName" `
    -DeploymentTypeName "$AppName Client" `
    -ContentLocation "$AppLocation" `
    -InstallCommand "$InstallStr" `
    -UninstallCommand "msiexec /x $MSICode /qn" `
    -MaximumRuntimeMins 720 `
    -LogonRequirementType WhereOrNotUserLoggedOn `
    -UserInteractionMode Hidden `
    -ProductCode
    -ScriptLanguage PowerShell `
    -ScriptText $scriptDetect

When this is run, the DT is created with the Installation Behaviour set to the default value of "Install for system if resource is device; otherwise install for user"

The previous version of this cmdlet - Add-CMDeploymentType had the parameter availableā€¦

  10. Introduce the Ability to patch Click to Run Applications like Office 365

Currently Office 365 can't be patched with WSUS, instead you have to have your clients either contacting the Internet (not very good option for large enterprise), or you will have to distribute the new updated version on shared folders and define the new update source. it would be interesting to be able to use WSUS also for C2R apps.

  11. PowerShell cmdlets need to be cleaned up

I use a LOT of PowerShell ... and the PowerShell modules in SCCM are ... well... bad.

Issue 1: I should not have to set my running location to a site to run a cmdlet. No one uses a set-location to make sure they are in the AD domain root before running a get-ADUser (unless they have a multi-domain environment and need to call something specifically), yet SCCM requires this to be true. It makes scripting needlessly complex.

Issue 2: there are a pointlessly large number of cmdlets. Do I really need a Get-CMDeviceCollection and a separate Get-CMUserCollection? Why can'tā€¦

  12. Software Center: Change Software Center to display Package Name as well as Program Name

It seems that Software Center is using the program name to populate packages within the interface. Many admins create a package with a package name that relates to the product being installed but then create program with a name 'Install' or 'Uninstall'.

When the deployment is available in the Software Center it can be confusing for the end user to know what software is to be installed.

Ideally both Package Name and Program Name should displayed in the Software Center.

  13. Support SQL Always On AG Asynchronous-commit

Configuration Manager Current Branch (1602) Supports SQL Always On Availability Groups, however it only in a Synchronous-commit replicas.

    From TechNet:
Asynchronous-commit mode. This availability mode is a disaster-recovery solution that works well when the availability replicas are distributed over considerable distances.

Synchronous-commit mode. This availability mode emphasizes high availability and data protection over performance, at the cost of increased transaction latency. A given availability group can support up to three synchronous-commit availability replicas, including the current primary replica.

This means that Configuration Manager can only support 3 secondary replicas in a SQL AO AG and they need to be inā€¦

  14. Fix the renaming of collections

The following behaviour should be fixed

    1. Create 'Collection A'
    2. Create 'Collection B'
    3. Go to the properties of Collection A. Under Membership Rules, go to Add Rule and select 'Include Collections'. Choose 'Collection B'.
    4. Rename 'Collection B' to 'Collection C'.
    5. Note that under the Membership Rules, Collection C is still referenced using it's old name.

When a collection is renamed, this change should also be reflected under the 'Membership Rules' of other collections.

  16. CMPivot - Additional operators and joins

I'd like to see a few things added to CMPivot after having a chance to use it recently.
    1. Joins: Would be really useful to be able to join data from different entities, like joining process data with the device data to be able see what makes and models are running a specific process that may have a memory leak issue.

    2. Additional Operators: Would be nice to be able to do a math operation on data that comes back, convert memory values to MB/GB with division, etc.

  17. Don't install VC++ 2005 redistributable during the ConfigMgr current branch client installation as it is a 10+ year old pre-req

Don't install VC++ 2005 redistributable during the ConfigMgr current branch client installation as it is a 10+ year old pre-requisite. Make it so only the latest version of C++ is installed.

  18. Updates and Servicing does not clean up EasySetupPayload folder once a new version is installed.

As the final step in Updates and Servicing, remove previous installer files for current branch builds and superseded hotfixes from %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\EasySetupPayload or add and enable a scheduled cleanup script/

Also there are now 3 locations with the full installation source files:
    %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\cd.latest
    %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\EasySetupPayload
    %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\CMUStaging

  19. Improve addMembershipRules implementation for large direct membership collection or provide Stored Procedure to do the same

Today we use an automated process to populate our device collections with machines from a fore-front configuration system.

After we had exceeded 250000 machines in some collections adding new machines to these large collections has become a real pain. Meanwhile it takes from 40s to 7 minutes to a add a single machine. The SCCM console cannot be used anymore for large collections. It crashes with OOM when the collection is opened or a new computer is added using right click.

Interestingly execution times don't really differ in terms of the number of machines added in one call of theā€¦

  20. Integrate Configuration Manager Reporting with Power BI or provide OData reporting

Configuration Manager is a great source of information for organisations. The problem with this repository of data is that it requires someone to take advantage of it. Reports or queries need to be generated by someone who knows what they are doing. Connecting Configuration Manager to PowerBI or providing an OData interface would allow Configuration Manager inventory data to be more easily accessed and used
