  1. OS Task Sequence End User experience

    Hi ConfigMgr Team,

First of all great work - we see that our feedback on your product is recognized and changes are implemented! You are an absolute role model @MS!

It would be nice to implement a better End User Experience for upgrading Windows 10 with an Task Sequence, because upgrading in Enterprise is not the same like upgrading on the devices at home. I think about third party security software, run only if not on battery, check if device has VPN or is connected via LAN to the corporate Network...

I saw some approaches in the new Upgrade 1802…

Updating status to noted – see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/configmgr/core/understand/find-help#send-a-suggestion for an explanation of each value.

Our 2002 release is now in the opt-in phase.

There’s improvements to the Check readiness step – AC test, wired. The folders you mention were added as we had a lot of feedback on where to place the actions.
The task sequence progress UI has new variables for showing different detail levels.
From a previous release, the task sequence progress UI can also be toggled on/off using the variable TSDisableProgressUI
Lastly, there is the new task sequence deployment type for applications. Custom icons can be applied there.

Try out the additions and let us know your feedback.

  2. Friendly/Localized names for task sequences

I'd like to see the ability to give Task Sequences friendly/localized named, like you can with apps/packages. In fact, replicating the entire "Application Catalog" tab of an application properties dialog in the task sequence properties dialog would be even better. This would also give the option of TS-specific descriptions/icons/keywords/categories/etc.

My reasoning is that our organization is effectively multi-tenant, and we're required to name our task sequences and other content with prefixes denoting department. This makes for annoying and unfriendly TS names when listed in Software Center or the task sequence list of WinPE. I see no reason why endpoints should…

Part of the new feature set is the addition of the task sequence deployment type. With that you would be able to use the friendly/localized name – this only applies to Software Center.

  3. Standardize package properties between SMS_TaskSequence_* SMSProviderObjects

    SMSTaskSequenceRunCommandLineAction uses PackageID
    SMSTaskSequenceInstallApplicationAction uses AppInfo (and ApplicationName?)
    SMSTaskSequenceApplyDriverPackageAction uses DriverPackageID
    SMSTaskSequenceApplyOperatingSystemAction uses ImagePackageID
    SMSTaskSequenceUpgradeOperatingSystemAction uses InstallPackageID

While they are different objects and they do different things, shouldn't this be standardized across classes that can have content dependencies in a TS? This makes the data coming out of Get-CMTaskSequenceStep difficult to work with, as you have to keep a rolling library of properties to check for Package ID's.

  4. Add line numbers in CMTrace

I often use a tool to search all log files for a particular entry, and the search results tell me what line the entry is located on within each log file. If CMTrace had line numbers, it would help locate the search results within the log files.

  5. ConfigurationManager PowerShell module should register itself as an Env Variable

Today, when you install the CM Console, the PowerShell module will be placed under the %CMInstallDirectory%\AdminConsole\Bin\ConfigurationManager.psd1

This makes sense given where the user is choosing to install the console, and that's fine. But placing it here off the beaten path means that it is not importable using PowerShell's module autodiscovery features. For instance, if a module is found in any of the standard user or system paths (or registered under the $ENV:PsModulePath) the user can easily import the module without having to specify the full path, a big user quality of life win. This is the way that SQL Server…

  6. DCR : Change "Pre-download content for Task Sequence" description in GUI

This is a DCR request to update the Desploy TS wizard. The option to "Pre-Download content for this task sequence" is by itself misleading. Technicians attempting to deploy a TS, select the option "Pre-Download content for this task sequence" believing all content will be downloaded. Leveraging this option with a Software TS or without an upgrade package, often results in unexpected errors.

By design this features currently only applies to the OS upgrade package and related drivers. The only place this is mentioned in the CONFIGMGR console is when the feature is enabled.
"Pre-cache content on client for available deployment…

Updating status to Noted. Thanks for the feedback.

The Pre-download content for this task sequence applies to all statically referenced packages OS Images, SWD, Driver Packages, OS Upgrade Packages. If pre-download is set and the task sequence references 1 OS Image, 20 Driver Packages then all 21 will pre-download to cache. Only the OS Upgrade package uses the pre-download logic – match for Language and Architecture.

We’ll likely add a ‘Learn more’ FWDLink to something like https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/osd/deploy-use/create-a-task-sequence-to-upgrade-an-operating-system rather than change the string. As we add more objects to use Pre-download conditions then we can keep the link updated.

  7. Include DART in ConfigMgr Boot Images as standard

Having DART included in the boot images for ConfigMgr would make remove monitoring of OS Deployments much easier without us having to manually integrate it into the boot images.

Thanks for your feedback and suggestion.
Updating status to noted – see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/understand/find-help#send-a-suggestion for an explanation of each value.

We understand the ask and that it would reduce work for boot image maintenance. Unfortunately our team does not own DART (Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset) therefore we cannot include it as part of the boot images.

We’ll keep this item open for the suggestion to make adding the tools an option on the boot image customization tab.

  8. Save-CMSoftwareUpdate error RPC server unavailable when connecting under a different account

My idea is to have the scenario described below supported.

When running Save-CMSoftwareUpdate command on a CMSite-PSDrive that connects to a ConfigMgr site in a different domain (used Get-Credential to pass credentials in New-PSDrive call) than the user account the PowerShell window is running as, I get error 'The RPC server is unavailable'.

I can successfully change location to the PS drive, and run other ConfigMgr PS cmdlets.

    Commands:
    New-PSDrive -Name <sitecode> -PSProvider 'CMSite' -Root <siteserverFQDN> -Credential (Get-Credential)
    Set-Location <sitecode>:
    Save-CMSoftwareUpdate -SoftwareUpdateName <name> -DeploymentPackageName <name> -Verbose

    Verbose output from Save-CMSoftwareUpdate call:

VERBOSE: Start: Execution of WQL query: Select * from…

  9. Foreground color for Softwarecenter

When choosing white colour schema you have white letters with white foreground. Would be great if we can choose the foreground colour or if the letters keep black even when you mark Items on white colour schema.

  11. Improved documentation / flowcharts for client activity

It would be nice to know the process or flow that occurs on the client side. This information is often times needed to explain the technology to management. There would likely need to be different flowcharts for each client function. The following is made up 100% and is not correct in any way and not in the correct format, but illustrates the idea.

Client wakes up -> Identification Information sent to Primary Site -> Client receives MP list -> Client receives DP list -> Client randomly chooses MP and requests machine policy -> policy is compared to what has been…

  13. Software Center stand alone App

Make Software Center available (as an App?) so that you can see exactly what is in Software Center for a remote machine. You launch the app on your technician PC, supply the machine name and user name and the Software Center shows up on the technician PC with exactly what the user sees. This would be very valuable for level 2 and service desk people to help users.

  14. Client Messaging SDK: Parse client inventory messages to a local file for debug purposes

If you play around with the possibility to send messages like inventory, ddr,... with the Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.Messaging.dll it would be nice to write the message to a file on the lokal development system (for validation / verify purposes) instead of sending it over the wire to get the result.

  15. Run Scripts feature should support other scripting types (VBScript, Perl, etc)

It would be awesome if more languages were supported for real-time Script deployment in addition to PowerShell. Maybe VBscript, Perl or Javascript, etc.

  16. Include verbose information with import-cmpackage cmdlet

The Import-CMPackage cmdlet does not provide much in the way of verbose output with the -verbose flag. This would be useful to identify what the cmdlet is performing in the background to determine if package already exists with the same name or not.

    Steps attempted:
    $Global:VerbosePreference = "Continue"
    $Global:DebugPreference = "Continue"
    $Global:CMPSDebugLogging = $true

    import-cmpackage -ImportFilePath "\localhost\c$\Users\Testing\TestPkg.zip" -Verbose

Output: Verbose: Performing the operation "Import" on target "Package: ".

    Trace-Command -Name metadata,parameterbinding,cmdlet -Expression {Import-CMPackage -ImportFilePath "\localhost\c$\Users\Testing\TestPkg.zip" -WhatIf} -PSHost
DEBUG: ParameterBinding Information: 0 : BIND NAMED cmd line args [Import-CMPackage]

  17. OSD - Have different command-line options in the "Upgrade Operating System Task Sequence" to upgrade Windows 10

Make the Upgrade Step more customizable. I'd actually like the ability to remove the /quiet tag from the setup.exe command line, and be able to add the additional commands right on that step instead of having to add additional steps to create the those variables.
Add Check boxes for additional preset parameters to enable /disable, and text box to add custom (reflect drivers, etc)

  18. Incorrect Icon Size When Using New-CMApplication and Set-CMApplication

When using New-CMApplication or Set-CMApplication with the IconLocationFile parameter and an icon at least 128x128 in size, the application is created with a very small icon. I am not certain if smaller icons are effected.

  19. Powershell cmdlet for adding global conditions as requirements

We are using PowerShell as a frontend for creating applications. As default we create multiple deployment type, each of them intented to run in certain environemts. These environemts are defined in some custom global conditions.

When creating the deployment type we can very easily identify which global contitions shold be set as requirement. But we miss a Powershell cmdlet to automize this task. Instead we rely on the application creator to remember to add these conditions.

So far I have found a PS-script that can add one of the build-in conditions, but it fails when trying to add a custom…

  20. Improve Content Replication

Content Replication from Site to DPs should be a frustration free Process or SCCM Admins. Unfortunately, I know no customer without smaller or bigger issues in this area.
Here is an uncomplete list of some issues I´ve noticed:
    • Content Eval - Scheduled Task lost
o SCCM does not check if the schedule task got lost/deleted
o Suggested Solution: SCCM should verify the Scheduled Task on Service Startup
    • Content Eval - Hash mismatch/Eval fails for package
o When content Eval fails for a package, the admin must manually redistribute it / take care of the error
    o There should…
