  1. Need a solution to dynamically check all cloud endpoint connectivity for AAD/Intune/DO/MCC

In multiple MEM engagements this always comes up for hybrid work:

    • Working with the infosec/network/firewall teams to ensure all the "security bus stops" have the appropriate exceptions in place (inclusive of TLS/SSL inspection/decryption exceptions) and running through a test plan iteratively until we have success. Then if any cloud endpoints change (URLs/IPs), we have to go through that playbook all over again. I realize there are some great solutions for automating Office 365 cloud endpoint checks and exceptions. What can we do here to help the MEM community be more successful and get greater adoption?

  2. Distribute Content - WhatIf

It would be great to be able to Select a Task Sequence, Package, Application, OS Image etc and Distribute Contents with WhatIf functionality.

    Example:

Newly created Windows Client Upgrade Task Sequence has been created that has Package references of ‘potentially’ 20 Gb in required disk space (OS Image, Drivers, Office, Language Packs) and we would like to Distribute this to some 30+ DPs, all varying in Free Disk Space (minimum being 14 Gb)

The feature of ‘single-instance store’ is great and expect not to require nearly the ‘potential’ 20Gb of free Disk Space, but we do not know the true…

  3. Give an option for Preferred DP within a boundary group

We use branchcache a lot in our environment. It would be helpful for us to have a the same sort of ordering inside a boundary group as we do for client settings - assigning a rank to which DPs (or MPs / SUPs really, but my main concern is DPs) are selected first and then 2nd, 3rd, etc.

  4. Pull DP: Add Timeout to BITS Job to Eliminate Stuck BITS Jobs

I love Pull Distribution Points. Love, love, love, just love the little buggers. If they had cheeks you bet your bottom dollar I’d pinch them. The combination of dedupe, LEDBAT, and Pull DPs is just brilliance.

There is however, one major drawback. At scale (100s of Pull DPs) you are pretty much guaranteed that at any given time a handful of them are ‘stuck on stupid’. There will be a huge backlog of jobs waiting to transfer but the Pull DP is not downloading content and refuses to process new jobs.

In almost every case this boils down to BITS…

  5. Allow intranet device to use Primary Site Server for MP, CMG for DP

This would be useful for district sites. It would help reduce on-prem DPs and replace them with the CMG. This could be set in the boundary group settings.

  6. Ability to run Content Library Cleanup Tool on Main Site Server

Unlike with Remote DP's, I have been informed that there is not an option to cleanup content on the main site server. Please provide this option in a future release. Thank you.

  7. Content Library - built in GUI to move content library files to a drive or specific folder

There shoud be a function that let me see the size of the content library and if there is more than one storage place for Content library files we need a function to move the content fully or in parts to a destination we can select in a simple GUI.

  8. Boundary group prioritization

Set priority of Boundary Groups. We are using IP Ranges for Boundary Groups and when working on VPN sometimes Config Manager uses both the clients local IP address and the VPN assigned IP. The device gets assigned to 2 Boundary Groups. In this scenario we want the VPN Boundary Group to be higher priority, but location request is calling back with DP's from all the groups combined and downloading from on prem DP. So basically if device is in overlapping boundary groups we would like some prioritization

  9. have client use Connected cache like a distribution point

Ability to have clients only connect to MS connected cache to get DO content (like a DP) instead of going to other peers

  10. Prioritize the DP to replicate first

Prioritize the DP to replicate first.
we manage a large number of DP, some are more critical, we would like these DP to be distributed first
why not a notion of cost on each PD to ensure that replication is managed more finely.
    Thank you for your support

  11. Remove content when not accessed in X days

Allow a package/application/software update to be configured to be removed if not access in X days. (7 day to 180 days). This allow you to remove software taking up space on the site servers/CMG. A warning should be added when selected that tells the admin, "It is recommended that this package should reside within the default boundary group to allow for download fallback once this content is removed" This ensures that if it were removed and by some change a machine did need the content from the Server, it could still receive it, albeit slowly. Console alert notifying the admin…

  12. Extend the downloadable time of the peer cache source.

There is a 24 hour time limit for a PeerCache client to download from a Peercache source.
When distributing large files, the token may expire and the download may not complete.
we expect to extend the 24-hour constraint. (For example, 1week.)

  13. Content Clean up on CAS

Would like to get an option to perform content clean up on CAS as the content library will consume good amount of disk space.

  14. Report to Detail download duration and size of content for each Client

As more users are working from home for the current pandemic the network teams are constantly asking... how much data are SCCM Clients downloading over the VPN.
I would like to see a report that we can see the size of content and how long it took each client to download the content for updates, packages and applications. Even at what speed BITs was downloading so we could see which of our users have very slow/small Internet connections at home. This should include whether they downloaded from MS Updates, on-prem DP's or the CMG.

  15. Provide Support for DFS Replication of Content Library

With the introduction of Site Server High Availability, this would be a considerable step towards additional capabilities to leverage for content high availability. While using a DFS share is viable, adding support for DFS-R would greatly enhance the effectiveness and ease of deploying a HA solution that would have considerable advantages on a passive site server across a larger distance. As a bonus, this implementation could be used separately from HA if desired.

  16. The Summary and Details about the Distribution Point Configuration Status is inconsistent

The summary can remain blocked under an “error” status even when all the statuses from the “Details” tab are “Success”.

  17. Add a function to allow downloading files without extension

In CB 1906 environment, when performing package deployment, if an empty file without extension is included, the content download fails.
The file name contains double bytes.
As an additional condition, it occurs on receiving content from peer cache sources.

The solution is to add .txt to the extension and the download will be successful.
We hope that files without extension can be downloaded without any problem.

  18. Enable support for Delivery Optimization and Connected cache for Config Manager deployments

If you allow fallback to Windows Update e.g. for Windows Updates or Office 365 Updates, enable config Manager Client to use Delivery Optimization to download content, without the requirement of using co-management.

  19. Let Azure Active Directory joined Client be Peer Caching source

Today peer cache source needs to be an on-prem domain joined device, as customers is moving to Azure Active Directory getting support for AAD joined devices as peer cache source will help customers that are moving to AAD joined devices and want to remove on-prem DP's.

    From docs:
A peer cache source must be a domain-joined Configuration Manager client. However, a client that's not domain-joined can get content from a domain-joined peer cache source.

  20. Option to pre-cache Applications/Packages using right click tools

Add a Right click option to allow an Administrator to precache content for an Application/Package, which can be delivered to a Peer Cache Source device collection. In addition, add a page under Monitoring (e.g. add to Distribution Status' folder) which will allow an Administrator to monitor the applications/packages currently being precached on Peer Cache Source machines ('SuperPeers').

It seems strange that Microsoft would introduce Peer Cache feature without a satisfactory way of precaching content (e.g. 'Download Package Content' in TS does not work for Applications!!) and the idea that we should setup a Required application for a date in the…
