  1. Enhance Phased Deployment for Applications

TL;DR: Make Phased Deployments for Applications the same as Phased Deployments for Task Sequences where you can create up to 10 phases and manually initiate the second phase of deployment.

    Explanation:
Currently in 1806 although you can create a phased deployment for an Application, you're limited in two key areas:

    1) You cannot manually create phases for an application
    2) You cannot manually begin the second phase of deployment for an application
    3) You are limited to 2 phases for an application

In our environment we follow a controlled graceful deployment process where an Application Model application is deployed office-by-office…

    • Add option "File/folder/registry item DOES NOT exist" to application detection rules

Sometimes you just need to have an app that is detected successfull when something is not existing. Delete files or registry keys etc. It would be nice if there was a logical operator in app detection to select a file and then mark a box "NOT" or "DOES not exist" to tell the detedetection system that we are done when thi thing does not exist anymore.
Now we need to use ps-scripts (to return something when file is not detected and nothing when it is detected) to achieve this, like:

      $strFileName="c:\temp\test.txt"
      If (Test-Path $strFileName){

      }Else{return $true}

      • Deployment Type with version when auto creating DT

There are multiple places where a reference to an application is only with GUID and DT name. E.g. logs.
If the DT name had version number in the name, it would easy to see what application is referenced when you have more than one version of a product and thereby more applications.

When creating an application for a Windows Installer, it would be great to have the automatic DT creation process to include the version, if provided, in the DT name.

In addition, if the creation of a script installer DT could include the names and versions from the application…

        • Right click Applications and Packages for open datasource

If I want to edit the source files for a package I open the properties goto Data Source Tab, copy the sourcefolder and paste it in the explorer to go the source.

If I want to edit the source files for an application I open the properties of a deployment type, goto Content location, copy and past the content for edit the source.

It would be nice to right click a package or application to open the source folder directly

          • Under Software Library --> Applications, ability to jump down to an application by typing the first few letters of the application name.

Under Software Library --> Applications, ability to jump down to an application by typing the first few letters of the application name. This can be done in other modules in the Configuration Manager. I'm not sure why it hasn't been implemented in the Applications module. This is much quicker to jump down to the right application instead of using the Search bar or scrolling down.

            • Check for running exe and is in Presentation mode

in current Technical Preview is integrated the Check for running exe.
But as an improvement it will usefully to integrate the Check for Client is in Presenation mode.
Like the PSapp Deployment Toolkit. with this two things, it will greatly improve the development time of Deployment of Applications.

              • Application deployment is available/required depending if a user is logged on or not

I'd like to create an application deployment that is available when a user is logged on and it would be automatically required if a user is not logged on.

This is needed when application deployment can happen only if some process is not running. In 1702 you can close some running process, which helps the problem. However, there are situations when you cannot close the conflicting processes, because the user might lose some data. In these scenarios, you need a way to initiate the deployment immediately, when the user logs off or if there are no user logged on.

                • Countdown timer before closing executable

For the new feature in 1702 ("Check for running executable files before installing an application"), add a countdown timer pop-up above the system tray, like the countdown for restart, but in this case to allow the user to save any unsaved work before the specified executables get automatically closed.

                  • Move "ERROR" Flagged Deployments to In-Progress for "Application not detected" after installation.

Move "ERROR" Flagged Deployments to In-Progress for "Application not detected" after installation. Currently, many deployments install as expected but are not detected after installation. Soon after the detection succeeds and subsequently resolves to "Success".

                    • Application catalogue improvement

It would be very useful that we could limit in application catalog what user can view by adding collection see example in attached document below..

This could be available to all but still require administrative approval.
Or could be limited let say to a country but still require administrative approval.

                      • Option to use SYSTEM context for detection method for a user-based application deployment

The application detection method only runs in the user context if it is deployed to a user collection. This would be reasonable if the Deployment Type user experience were set to "Install for User" (User context), however the detection method runs in the user context when this is set to "Install for system" installation behavior (SYSTEM context).

                        • Support upgrading of Windows Store for Business offline apps without requiring to uninstall

At the moment (1610) the detection and superseding process for WSfB offline apps does not work. The old version is installed, and the new version detects as being installed but it isn't. The only way the upgrading works is if the supersede option to uninstall the previous version is checked - unfortunately this also deletes the local app data, shortcuts and tiles.

                          • Ability to schedule the deletion of applications in Retired State

I would like the ability to change the default 60 day time limit that deletes applications that are in a retired state. Would be great to have the ability to change that setting added under maintenance tasks.

                            • Enable use of collection and computer variables in application model

For the same reasons that computer and collection variables are useful and strategic for OSD, they would also be with the application model. Examples:
+ Customizing command-line parameters for installation
+ Leveraging in scripts for the protection of secret/sensitive data like passwords or product keys

                                Hi

A great thing would be install an application on logon screen or after a User logged off.
                                So every application is closed.

                                • Prevent Cache Limit from Causing Application Deployment Failure

Once the cache has been filled all subsequent application deployments fail until the cache self-cleans. In CAS.log you see that the client is refusing to download the content because the cache, not the actual disk, is full.

This strikes me as a non-optimal design choice if the goal is to successfully install applications. If I want to install an application I do not want it to fail because of an artificial limit that until very recently was set at the time of client install. Most of the time the cache clears in 24 hours and there's no problem but there…

                                  • Detection rule use application source files

Sometimes you need to run an executable to detemine if the application is installed or not. For example: setup.exe /listinstalled.
today it is not possible to access the content location (mostly the cache directory) of the application.
Is it possible to allow access to the content location of the application in the detection rule?

                                    • App Model Optional User deployment behavior

App Model - Optional User Deployment - When user policy is recieved, perform app eval to check if app is installed, if so show as installed in Software Center. (Currently it doesn't evaluate and shows option to install even if already present. When you click the install button... it then performs the evaluation and changes to installed and provides the uninstall button. This is confusing to our end users)

                                      • Mac Script Installer deployment type

Today the only deployment type for Mac is to use the ".cmmac" packages.
These packages are far from on par with what is available for Windows.
The most basic option to uninstall the app is not present.

It would be very usfull to have the "Mac Script Installer" deployment type where we can simply add a .pkg file or bash script with media and execute install and uninstall with custom commands. Some of the packages require more then just the .pkg file and will therefor be incomplete.
Having a uninstall command will also allow for propper supersedence where now application…

                                        • Export/Archive Apps with all Informations on Filesystem

An option to Export Apps/Packages to Filesystem would be perfect. If i remove an SCCM App i can copy the Sources to my Archive on the Filesystem, but I loose the Information like Deployment Types, Description, Detection methods ans more.

We have hundreds of Apps which need to be Archived manually.
