  1. Install Behaviour, add processpath (as optional)

For some applications, we have severals instances (like Production, Formation, Test). These instances share the same image name (like program.exe) but are in differents folders (like C:\Program Files\Compagny\Product\Instance). So when it come time to deploy new version for a single instance, without the full process path (like C:\Program Files\Compagny\Product\Instance\program.exe), The SCCM Client Install behaviour feature "ask" or "automatic closing" all instance of program1.exe instead of targeting the specific one updated by the deployment type.

  2. Add the AppDT Id (modelname) to the console

Sometimes all you have as an Application identifier in a log is the AppDT Id.

For example in the AppDiscovery.log in the form of "AppDT Id: ScopeIdxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxx/DeploymentTypexxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxx.
At the moment you need an SQL Query to find the Deployment Type and the Application (via modelname).

There is already a "Model name" column for the Deployment in the console. It would be nice to have "Model name" for the Deployment Type also, so we can identify it inside the console.

  3. Improve Application groups to show progress

When running an application group there is no progress showing the individual apps (like the task-sequence) or even a % - it just says "Installing...". Provide more detailed progress and a log file to troubleshoot which one failed.

  4. Include custom notifications to deploy apps, packages and scripts

Before start to install apps, packages or scripts, pop-up a custom notification to user.

Example 1: When we need to upgrade some application and we have to notify end-user to save and close all documents or files from that application in question.
Example 2: Notify user that specific application must be closed to upgrade and all work could be lost.

  5. Add count down timer to install behavior on required application deployments

Currently you can add a requirement to close an application(s) prior to launching an install, such as Outlook. User is prompted but if the user takes no action and leaves the prompt, the deployment will fail. Add an option to set a count down timer to this to force it to close if the user never responds.

  6. Requirement Server 2016 should be able

While Deploying an Application to Server 2016 you can only choose 'Windows Server 2016 and higher'. In Fact this means that Server 2019 Systems will get these applications even too.

  7. Configuration Manager Restarts computer if needed after running Program

When deploying a program (not application) there are a couple of choices for handling restarts after finishing:
    1. Configuration Manager restarts computer
This forces a restart of the computer with a countdown configured through Client Settings. This is all good but it does it no matter if it's needed or not.
    2. Program handles restart
This allows the computer to be restarted by an installation program without the program is reported as failed.
Restarts triggered by the program will not show a countdown. At least not the one configured through Client Settings.

There's room for improvement here and I thinkā€¦

  8. Include Summarization time for assets in Application Deployments for Monitoring

For package deployments the summarization filter heading is very useful for checking timings on assets for completed deployment. If this was the same for app deployments in monitoring it would be great as most companies have a combination of app and package deployments

  9. allow manually configured phases for applications

There seems no logical reason why it isn't possible to manually configure phases for application deployments the way they can be for updates - changing the way maintenance windows are handled for example, or setting phases to be manually moved on to.

I would like to see an option to "Install Package" like there is an "Install Application" option in the admin console.

  11. Available Uninstall

When creating an applicaiton, we currently have the option to specify an uninstall ONLY when an install is already defined. It would be helpful to make an uninstall deployment without specifying any install content.

At the moment, yes this can be done by leaving uninstall blank and specifying the unintsall as the install. However this causes a LOT of confusion since the button in software center reads Install.
Alternativly, if we have the ability to just change what the text says for the install\uninstall buttons that would satisfy as well.

Currently when we need similar behavior we essentially have aā€¦

  12. Allow Install Application feature to work with all "Available" deployments

In the endpoint management portal (intune) there is now the ability to select a device and instantly install applications flagged for approval and applications that are just deployed as available. Please bring the ConfigMgr console to feature parity by allowing the adhoc install of Available applications via the console.

Deployments of Application Groups to Users does not appear to provide any deployment status, only when we deploy to device collections are we able to see the status of the deployment of an Application Group. This is in 2010 with the

  14. Make the detection method for applications detect missing applications

It is not uncommon for us to use a SCCM application deployment to remove an application from our environment. The detection method can verify an executable is there but there is no reverse logic to detect it missing. If the uninstall is clean and there is nothing left over to detect we are forced to use a create a .log or .txt file with PowerShell for the detection method. While this provides basic functionality, it does not allow the deployment to detect when software is reinstalled so it can rerun and remove it again. If there was reverse logic toā€¦

  15. Rating and Installation Count in Software Center

It would be nice to add a star rating system to applications in Software Center, and to have the option to display the software installation count on the software center application view. This mirrors the experience users are accustomed to with other app stores and it helps them to select the correct tool when there are multiple, similar options.

  16. Add BAT/CMD/PS1 to 'Executable files' filter on 'Deployment Type' installation and uninstall programs

Every site I've ever worked at has used batch files as the installation/uninstall source. It's a nuisance to have to click that drop-down Every.Single.Time in order to select them. The simple addition of '*.BAT; *.CMD; *.PS1' to the filter would fix that frustration.

  19. Detection method for MSIX Apps should have version 'Greater than or Equal' option

Current detection method for MSIX native Deployment Type only allows us to check version equals to 1.x.y.z.

If that application is set to auto install updates afterwards the software center application status turns to failed. I experienced this after deploying Microsoft Whiteboard application, when I deployed to my user base app deployment was successful for over 5000 machines and deployment success status was almost 99%. After 2 weeks users complained they see Failed status in Software Center next to Whiteboard application. After troubleshooting the issue I came to know whiteboard application was set to install automatic updates and the versionā€¦

  20. Add cleanup of deprecated Application Catalog roles as a Management Insight

Management Insights are great! As a consultant, I often train customers to check these on a regular basis and act on them to improve Site performance and to have a supported configuration.

Application Catalog roles have been deprecated. It would be a nice-to-have addition to the Insights panel, in my opinion, to instruct on removing the application catalog website and application catalog web service roles, and to review the default and any custom client settings to ensure Default Application Catalog website point is set to (none).
