  1. Application Detection - Add Return Code Option - Clear Install History

Add a custom Return for applications. "Clears Install History"

I'm currently deploying office 365, which when launched, prompts users to close apps and continue, however they can click cancel. If they click Cancel, it returns a code to CM which is then logged as a failure. I would like to have a Return Code option in the App DT that says, it the App returns code "123456", then exit out as if it never ran, no failure, no success. So in the software center, the icon says "Install" instead of "Retry", and not show a previous failure. It makes ourā€¦

  2. Featured apps to Software Center

There are always some applications that you would like to highlight to your users. On the Software Center tab of the application properties, you can select: Display this as a featured app and highlight it in the company portal. The similar feature should be available also with Software Center.

The admin should be able to define some applications as featured apps and they would then be the first apps in the Software Center. And also with some additional icon for featured apps like the new apps have.

  3. Allow users to plan any deployment with a time picker

    Available, required, doesn't matter.
Give users a "Plan" button, like we have with required deployments, and allow them to pick a time, and allow them to reboot after the install is done.
Right now, the "Plan" button is only present on Required deployments with a deadline.
Right now, the "Restart automatically my computer if needed" checkbox is only present if you choose "Outside my business hours".

Yes, this is a three-for-one. Inspired by Brian Dam's tweet https://twitter.com/bdam555/status/1220469791284219904

  4. Fully Cache Content before being made Available in Software Center

Have an option on a Deployment (For any Content) to not show in Software Center until it's been fully cached.

It can take a VERY long time for an deployment to download, Office, Win10, Visual Studio, etc. Ideally, we don't want a user having to wait HOURS when they go to software center and click "INSTALL". We want it to Install, not say "Downloading". If we could check a box on the deployment to Pre-Cache, then Make Available in Software Center, that would be great.

  5. New Application Install Notifications

I'd like to see some more dynamic notifications in the way Software Center communicates to users.

For example, a device pending a restart seems to just sit with a status of waiting to install - could this be changed so that if a device is pending a restart either through ConfigMgr or the reboot flag on the device a user message is displayed advising users to reboot and retry.

There are occasions in application installs, inplace upgrades where ConfigMgr is doing exactly what it should do but presents the user with a failure message rather than a more appropriate userā€¦

  6. Device is not applicable (Human readable error)

When adding dependencies to an application in ConfigMgr, there is no way of giving the user an informational error message if requirements are not met. The user will simply see ā€œThis software is not applicable to your device.ā€

We need to use dependencies on an application that require Adobe Acrobat Pro / Reader to be installed. The problem is that the customer has multiple versions of Acrobat Pro/Reader, so we cannot automatically install it.

If we could display a more informational error message to the customer: ā€œPlease install the appropriate Adobe Acrobat Pro / Reader first from Software Center toā€¦

  7. Change Configuration Manager restarts computer TO Configuration Manager controls restart AND support the Site Control List return codes

Currently, when a Program option is set to 'Configuration Manager restarts computer', the return code is evaluated for 0 or non-zero only. A return of 0 restarts the computer whereas a non-zero is considered a failure and does not reboot the computer. The Site Control List already has Success, SuccessRebootRequired and FailureNonRetry return codes defined. I'm guessing they are used for Applications but they should also be used for Programs.

Please change the 'After running' option from 'Configuration Manager restarts computer' to 'Configuration Manager controls restart' and support the Site Control List return codes.

** Maybe change Configuration Manager logsā€¦

  8. Software Center Error - Display Error Code Details

When a deployment fails in Software Center, and you click the "Failed" link, it will then show an error code. Ten, we have to Google (excuse me, I mean Bing) the error code or look in CMTrace to find out what it means. Could Software Center do the same thing that CMTrace does, and look up the error and display what it means there in the Software Center window?

  9. Default expansion of 'More information' section in 'Required software changesā€¦' dialog

By default, the 'More information' section in the 'Required software changesā€¦' dialog, that details what software specifically will be changed, is obstructed from the userā€™s view because it is collapsed. To see details of the affected software, the user must manually click the caret which is not apparent to many.

Provide a client policy setting that enables the expansion of the 'More information' section in the 'Required software changesā€¦' dialog as a default.

  10. Display or Reinstall Users Previously Installed Applications in Software Center

We have moved to making more and more applications available to user collections for a self-service model of application deployment. We still have multiple request for direct assignment to devices so users dont have to find and install their applications in Software Center.

It would be great if Software Center could display applications that users installed and previously installed on retired devices. This would get us one step closer to providing that similar experience to the mobile devices.

  11. Show installed Updates in "Update" tab

make currently installed Updates in the update section in the softwarecenter visible. That makes it a lot easier to find out what updates (MS or third party) is currently installed. For the admin and the user.

  12. Make application approvals require user to enter managers email address

In my organization we have multiple Business Units that all have different managers. When software approvals are needed, it would be beneficial for us to have the user's reporting manager cc'd on the approval list. This information is already in the user AD profile and should be able to be retrieved automatically.

    User A submits request.

    Pre-set approvals - Licensing@company.org
Auto approver added - Software Center > AD > User Profile > Reporting Manager > Reporting Manager's AD Profile > Reporting Manager's Email Address > Send Approval

  13. Software Center Default Update filter

There is a Client setting for Software Center Customization where the "Default application filter" can be set to All or Required.

I think the same option should be available for the Updates tab in Software Center.

Having the ability to configure the "Default update filter" to Required would eliminate the accidental installation of updates deployed as available.

There have been more than a few occasions when users have clicked the Install All button not realizing that they were installing an available update. It is kind of a thing when they realize one of them was a feature update.

  14. Make 'All' and 'Required' in Software Center look like buttons

Even though this is also partially a matter of end-user training, a lot of our users don't seem to realize that the words 'All' and 'Required' are clickable to filter. When telling someone they should select 'All' instead, they select 'All' from the category filter instead of clicking on the word 'All'.

So just a small UI change to make them more user-intuitive :)

  16. Allow immediate restart after user-initiated installation in Software Center

If a user initiated the installation of a required deployment (say a feature update) before the deadline, I think we should have an option somewhere, maybe in the deployment settings or in client settings or in Software Center itself, to allow the user to restart the computer immediately.

The current behavior is to always respect the client settings for computer restart. But I think that is more important for installations that start because a deadline has passed. If the user initiates a feature update installation, I don't want the computer to wait for x hours before restarting.

  17. Speed up Software Centre searches by returning user results first

Currently Software Centre searches the computer WMI for applications to install then uses the MP to get user results.

User results are returned instantly where as WMI can take a long time on slower computers.
If the user results were returned first it would be a better experience.

  18. Add available software to Windows Search

It would be great if Software Center was indexed and Windows Search would give the option to install software available in Software Center.

Like I could search in Start for "Microsoft Teams" and if it was in my available software it would give a link to open Software Center and install it

  19. Software Center Policy

Move the software center "Sync Policy" button from beind nested under options to Applications, Updates, and Operation Systems. Having this Sync Policy button visible under these tabs would make the user experince so much simpler.

  20. Add ability to define "Estimated Time" for Classic Packages

The program of a classic package does not allow for configuration of the "estimated time"; however, Software Center always shows this field as "Not specified". Ideally, the estimated time could be configured.
