  1. Ability to specify the keyboard layout in the Boot Images properties

I know we can use the DISM command to set the input locale but from my point of view it should exist a field in the Boot Image properties where you could specify the layout you want.

    • Allow scripts created in \Software Library\Scripts node to be ran in a task sequence

The scripts that are created and approved in \Software Library\Scripts allow them to be used during a task sequence that way you do not need to create a package to contain the script file and download. That way you can avoid using the run command line step if the script is long.

Thanks for your feedback, updating status to Noted

We’ve made some recent improvements to the Run PowerShell Script task sequence step. The recent Technical Previews would have these changes – https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/get-started/2019/technical-preview-1901

You can now directly enter a script or browse to the existing scripts in \Software Library\Scripts and select any of the approved scripts or a local file (.ps1 – provider will need access to that path).

Other changes made bring the step in line with Run Command line – you can use RunAs, there’s a timeout added etc.

Do these changes address your ask?

      • Run executable package content (posh script or exe) from RAMdisc

I need an ability to run executable content, especially posh scripts, in winpe from RAMdisk. I mean, then there is no initialised or partitioned disks in the system.

        • Upgrade Operating System Built-in Step: Add Option to Keep Files Only

Customer does not have the store installed and using the built-in TS step keeps files and apps. I know that the "OSDSetupAdditionalUpgradeOptions" variable can be used, but it would be nice to have the option on the built-in TS step.

            Thanks for responding.

We cannot provide a different migration options for the reasons I outlined below. Anything other than ‘Applications, Data and Settings’ will leave the machine unmanaged – while we developed the new upgrade step we tested them all.

I’ll see if I can source steps for reinstalling the Store without having to complete a restore.

          • Boot Image Azure Powershell

Include option to inject Azure Powershell Cmdlets (including Azure Automation) into Boot Images. As many organizations are moving to the cloud, including the ability to login and run tasks in Azure is a must.

Thanks for your feedback. Updating status to noted.

This item is very similar to "Add “AD Powershell Module” as Optional Component for boot images"

We had to decline that as we cannot ship or take a dependency on the AD module. Similarly we won’t be able to take a dependency on Azure PSH module – we can only add what’s in the ADK.

Your ask covers a bit more ground with the ability to run tasks in Azure so I’ll leave as noted for now.

            • Task Sequence Pre-Cache for all Packages inside

It would be nice to have the ability to conditionally pre-cache all packages in Upgrade TS and not only OS Upgrade step.

To describe it in more details, in current design we are able to pre-cache only OS Upgrade step to computers based on conditions. This is not enough for companies with 20+ languages as best approach is to create en-us core image and then apply MUI on top of that. Doing this will cause system to report as e.g. de-de so we would need to download and distribute to 150+ DPs all supported Upgrade packages instead of distributing only…

Thanks for the feedback, updating status to Noted. See https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/configmgreng/2016/03/11/configmrguv/ for an explanation of each status

We have this in our backlog from when we introduced the pre-cache for OS Upgrade packages and agree it makes a ton of sense. The first action would probably be adding Make/Manufacturer for Driver Packages, then look at ways to address MUIs, Language packs

              • Apply Boundary Groups to WinPE Management Point selection

Currently it appears that when the SCCM agent in the WinPE boot image connects to a Management Point, it selects one without using the Boundary Group rules, instead selecting one from the AD published list, starting with the first alphabetically.
Instead this should behave like the full blown Windows SCCM Client and select a Management Point based on Boundary Groups such as IP range.
It is worth noting that Distribution Points are selected correctly according to Boundary Group by the WinPE client, for OSD content.

                • Upgrade Operating System Task should be able to use Windows Servicing Content and Allow user interaction

                  Problem:
                  • Current state of windows 10 servicing via upgrade sequence requires full media to take the client through setup.
o Full media is 2x the size of existing ESD (upgrade content)
o The Upgrade Operating System step does not allow the end user to defer the reboot nor does it warn the user of a reboot pending once setup has been kicked off

                  Change Request (Requirements)
                  I. The Upgrade Operating System step in the task sequence shall permit the administrator to reference windows 10 servicing content
II. The Upgrade Operating System step in the task sequence shall permit the…

                    RE: Adam Leinss
If there’s a restart from an internal operation like upgrade/Setup.exe, the default is 30 seconds. That can be controlled using the Task Sequence variable SMSTSRebootDelay, the message can be set with SMSTSRebootMessage.

                  • Make Windows 10 Setup Compatibility Scan Language Neutral

It would be nice if a checkbox "Perform Windows Setup Compatibility scan withnout starting upgrade" inside "Upgrade Operating System" step in SCCM Upgrade Task Sequence would be language neutral.

What I mean by this is that we would like to run this scan prior to the Upgrade itself but to be able to do that currently we have to switch the running OS to en-US (the same language as the Upgrade iso), then run the scan and in case an error is found, we need to switch back to original language again and reboot the computer. This is not a…

Thanks for the feedback, excellent suggestion

SCCM doesn’t own the compatibility scan – that’s owned by Windows Setup and I have passed this request on to them for consideration in a future release. I also added the scan should allow Architecture neutral as well.

                    • Add Reboot Count functionality to the Disable BitLocker TS Step

Newer versions of the BitLocker management tools (specifically manage-bde) now support the ability to suspend the BitLocker protection for defined number of reboots. The current Disable BitLocker TS step only suspends BitLocker for 1 reboot. There are cases that having a defined number of reboots (or indefinitely until re-enabled at the end of a TS) can come in handy (flashing the BIOS, MBR2GPT, In-place Upgrade with PINs, etc.).

Please add this functionality to the Disable BitLocker TS step for the operating systems that support it.

                      • Task Sequence Step / Action / Option "Generate Custom Status Message

It would be really helpful to have the possibility to generate a Status Message with a custom Message ID from within a tasksequence. Maybe as a seperate step, maybe as an checkmark under the "Options" tab.

This message ID could be used to trigger a Status Filter Rule more granular to improve overall Status Filter Rule performance.

Example: A company with 20k Clients deploys Operating Systems and Software via task sequences, the result ist that there are hundreds of thousands of 11171 events. When we are able to set a Message ID 65000 in the OSD Task Aequence, we are…

                        • Pre-Cache of task sequence content "Files Cached" notification

When deploying Operating Systems, we are using the Pre-Cache so customers can install at a more suitable time; however there is no notification in Software Centre to advise if the files required for install have been cached.

This leaves a "pot luck" install, especially for those on slower broadband links on whether the install will start instantly, or if it still has to download the content and wait an inexplicit amount of time before the install can take place.

Can the "Available" change to "Ready to install now" or similar, so customers know they wont have to wait for downloading…

                            • OSD Task Sequence Restart Computer step needs "if reboot pending" option

Please add to the Restart Computer OSD task sequence step an option that will check if the system requires a reboot and then only restart the computer if it needs to. Right now to work around this need, we have to execute a PowerShell script and write the results to a custom task sequence variable and then use that variable as a condition on the Restart Computer step. Adding this option natively would be much more elegant. Attached is the script we're using.

                              • Preflight checks support in OSD for Win10 upgrades

Provide a better way to support preflight checks for OS upgrades in terms of success/error being shown to users. Being able to show users a warning sign instead of a hard stop error would give better user experience. Currently, we either get "Installed successful" message, with having continue on error checked, or hard stop or scary error message that's presented to users if requirements aren't met. Everyone uses preflight checks now for OSD, please support it better with better notifications (customized) and error/warning handling.

Thanks for the feedback – updating status to Noted. See https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/configmgreng/2016/03/11/configmrguv/

As mentioned there’s some excellent samples provided from our MVP community. We’ll likely break this item to distinct pieces e.g. expanding Check Readiness step to test for Battery/Is Wired etc.

As well as preflight using /Compat prior to upgrade can help with finding issues before deployment. For 1806 that will now run without stopping CCMExec (setting ProvisioningMode).
Coupled with using /Compat for upgrade Windows produced SetupDiag to help diagnose upgrade blockers in more detail – see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/upgrade/setupdiag

                                • OSD Task Sequence (1703) Not Displaying

When running a task sequence to deploy a 1703 based image, the second part of the task sequence: "Setup Operating System" does not display.

The screen saying "Just a moment..." is displayed instead of the SCCM task sequence screen, meaning you cannot see the progress.

If the machine is left, it does actually complete the steps, but it would be nice to see the SCCM screen once again!

Thanks for your feedback. Updating status to Noted and apologies for not getting to this one till now.

From my testing this appears to be limited to 1703 (Redstone 2) or 1709 (Redstone 3). All tests with 1803 (Redstone 4) and 1809 (Redstone 5) have been fine also with Task Sequence Progress UI shown. The ‘Just a moment..’ is not something under task sequence control, installing manually shows the same behavior.

Is this still an issue for you all with the more recent Windows releases?

                                  • Remove from Collection / Move to Collection in OSD

Sometimes it might be handy to remove a computer from the OSD collection as a final step during the task sequence. Or additionally add the computer to additional collection(s) for for example extra software deployment or another task sequence.
Now scripts need to be created therefore and in my experience this doesn't always work well.
A predefined step where the collectionname or collectionID needs to be added to add (or remove) the computer to (or from) would be much appreciated.

                                    • Display what distribution point is being used during a task sequence.

When using a task sequence I would like to know what DP is being used since we have multiple DPs and would hope that I'm not using one on the other side of town. IE......Applying Operating System from "Distribution Point" or Installing Application from "Distribution Point."

                                      • Keyboard support for Edit Task Sequence Variables

Keyboard support to select task sequence variables in the Task Sequence Wizard to edit them. Instead of having to use the mouse to click them and change values. This is helpful when imaging a large batch of computers and using a KVM.

                                        • Suppress user logon while using Task Sequences outside of OSD that require a restart

When using task sequences to deploy applications or settings that require a restart, please include a check box on the "Restart Computer" action to suppress the user logon actions (ie. Ctrl + Alt + Del).
