How can we improve Configuration Manager?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. client logs email

Have a client task in control panel applet to gather all client logs needed for troubleshooting and allow the logs to be emailed to a support person.

  2. Provide more easily found lists of status codes

    Hey Microsoft,
Why is it so bloody difficult to find lists of things like, I don't know, Status Codes, Detailed Status or whatever you want to call it. You have all sorts of "codes" listed in different locations but nothing easily located to identify what each of those mean. I shouldn't have to waste a day Googling just to try and find an answer for something like "What is requested status of 105 mean?". It should just be there. COMPLETELY leaving alone having a completely different data header in SQL versus what you display via the console, how's about knocking…

  3. Add log file information when opening a log in CMTrace

It would be great to see a tooltip or option in the cmtrace toolbar to get more details about a log file. For example when opening EPCtrlMgr.log I see a tooltip with the description of the log file "Records information about the syncing of malware threat information from the Endpoint Protection site system role server with the Configuration Manager database."

  4. Cancel or delete client operation permissions

Cancelling or deleting a client operation under Monitoring > Client Operations can only be enabled if the Security Role has security scope set to the All Systems collection. There should be a security permission to enable the ability to cancel or delete client operations instead of adding all systems collection security scope to a role.

  5. An official Client Center that does not relay on WinRM

I used the SCCM Client Center by Roger Zander a lot with SCCM 2007 clients.
I have tried the newer Client Center for Configuration Manager, also by Roger, but it uses WinRM, which we have not configured on our machines, so it is almost useless to me.

It would be great to have an official tool like the old SCCM Client Center, to real-time monitor of clients, when debugging deployments.

  6. Serverside logging from Client

I want to beable to replicate all logfiles from ccm client to server into a folder structure build like Site / computer name
This will make it easy to read logfiles from failed installation easier. even when client is offline
This should be done automatic when the logfiles is updated.

  7. Verify Component Status

I often repeat the following actions:

    - Verify Component Status (Monitoring - System Status - Component Status)
    - Open any Component with Status Warning or Error.
    - Verify the Warning or Error is Solved
    - Reset All Counts for this Component.

A Typical example: Restart the Site Server.
All Management Points complain that the Site Server is unavailable.
But in they also report the System is Online again.

MP File Dispatch Manager running on the management point "mp.company.com" cannot connect to site server "SiteServer.company.com". The operating system reported error 53: The network path was not found.

    Component Status Summarizer detected…

  8. use Reliability Monitor/SystemStabilityIndex in inventory, client health and cmpivot

System Reliability Monitor is the integrated Windows 10 Troubleshooting tool which is a filter to the eventlog, looking at performance and stability related information
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/technet-magazine/dd362384(v=msdn.10)
For example you can find out since you installed a driver or app the system gets unstable

this data should be used in #configmgr client health, inventory and cmpivot

There is an number, the SystemStabilityIndex

    get-wmiobject Win32_ReliabilityStabilityMetrics -property "SystemStabilityIndex" | select-object -first 1 SystemStabilityIndex

Based on that we could create collections of good and bad performing machines or query cmpivot
