How can we improve Configuration Manager?

    • Access log files from Console

      Make the log files directly accessible via the console rather than digging around in the file system trying to remember which file holds which logs and ideally make them accessible from a context menu in the relevant areas.

      • Option to not reboot on OSD TS Failure

        Often times OSD TS fails while in WinPE (and obviously outside of WinPE) but unless the tech or user is sitting at the machine to press f8 (to bring up command prompt) the TS gives a timed windows until a reboot occurs. If my techs are not at their desk or if the imaging depots image things over night they are not there to see what failed or grab logs from PE and often times since it just reboots into windows they don't even realized the TS didn't finish. I realize not everyone would want this but it should be…

        • Monitor database fragmentation and notify based on the value

          One of the most issues found is database performance based on fragmented indexes. A notification or automatic defragmentation on for the relevant indexes would be nice.

          • better admin experience for troubleshooting site replication

            • client health remediation

              we need a better way to check, and resolve client health from within the console with out having to go the web and collect a wide range of third party scripts/apps to help resolve the issues.

              for example: duplicates GUID. inactive clients, etc..

              things like this should be available from the start.

              • Upgrade logging improvements

                Upgrade needs to have better logging - for example during an upgrade, the spimportinventory stored procedure was failing on a merge with SQL error 8672:
                The MERGE statement attempted to UPDATE or DELETE the same row more than once. This happens when a target row matches more than one source row.

                Tracking this down was difficult because of the MERGE statement - if each row were being processed separately, the specific problem data could be called out when an error occurs.

                • Run ccmeval.exe on right-click

                  When checking Client Status it would improve the experience if I could run ccmeval on a client that has failed any test immediately to see if the issue still exists.

                  • Replace Status Message Viewer and Service Manager

                    Please Replace this VERY OLD GUI's and integrate them in the SCCM Console!

                    • cumulative updates versions for consoles

                      When installing a cumulative update on console , the version seen in windows "program and features" or in sccm resource explorer - installed application is not updated. making the CU deployment difficult to follow up. Could you be sure this is updated with the CU installation. screenshots for CU3 in attached doc

                      • Generate a master log file of all client log files.

                        There is a lot of very detailed information in the individual component client logs files, But with all that detail in so many logs, it can be difficult to tell what the client is doing at any given time. I would like to see a master log of all the high level client activity and timestamps.
                        12:00 hardware inventory started
                        12:02 hardware inventory complete
                        12:05 policy download
                        12:08 software inventory started
                        etc...
                        It would help narrow down the number of logs to examine and the timeframes to look at.

                        • Integrate the features of the SCCM Client Center into console

                          The third party application SCCM client center provides essential troubleshooting support for the client. Why not integrate the features into the Admin console?

                          • Client action to send state messages to MP

                            Many times when you are testing something with ConfigMgr, you'd like to send client state messages immediately to MP. Now you need to wait for state message reporting cycle to occur. You can start the other client cycles manually with Configuration Manager Control Panel utility (or remotely from ConfigMgr console) except state messages.

                            • An official Client Center that does not relay on WinRM

                              I used the SCCM Client Center by Roger Zander a lot with SCCM 2007 clients.
                              I have tried the newer Client Center for Configuration Manager, also by Roger, but it uses WinRM, which we have not configured on our machines, so it is almost useless to me.

                              It would be great to have an official tool like the old SCCM Client Center, to real-time monitor of clients, when debugging deployments.

                              • Powershell cmdlet that tests a client's Update Deployment health

                                A PowerShell cmdlet that will test the connectivity and communication of the client to the SCCM server. This is requested as there are multiple articles that document the Updates process for SCCM 2007 but none that provide a high level overview for SCCM 2012. Powershell would be ideal as it is able to execute WMI methods then query SCCM logs to verify the success or failure (along with the error message) of the SCCM 2012 Updates process.

                                • Provide free technical preview sandbox

                                  It often proves to be difficult and costly to maintain a prod environment, and a lab environment on top of that. It is not becoming almost essential to have a technical preview environment, but in corporate culture you cant just stand up another server with a domain without significant red tape and support costs.

                                  It would be awesome if Microsoft would provide cloud hosted TP environments like they had for SCCM 2012 in the virtual labs. They need only last 2-3 months, and then just blow them away to create a new one when the new TP is released.

                                    Run a remote scan of dump files created in the minidump folder of local clients as you would with WinDbg X86 or X64 but having this ability from with in the config manager console.

                                      IT would be a nice option to have the option to clear CCMCache folder directly from SCCM Admin console by right-clicking on the client.

                                      • management point iis log cleanup

                                        We are finding we have reached a point where the IIS logs on our management points are frequently close to filling the disks. It would be nice for ConfigMgr to have a *native* ability to configure a cleanup of IIS logs for components that use it rather than having to create a separate "scheduled task" or similar action.
                                        This could even be an action triggered when the component monitor reports a low disk space on MP status.

                                          Have a client task in control panel applet to gather all client logs needed for troubleshooting and allow the logs to be emailed to a support person.
