  1. Do not allow "SMS" as Site Code Name

I found some customers which has "SMS" as name of SCCM site. This make a lot of problems with normal management. This name should also be make as do not allowed (wizard blocks also other names). And if already named, it should allow one time change.

We do document this, and this has been the case since at least SMS 2003.

      See:
      https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/279868/reserved-site-code-names-in-sms-2003-and-configuration-manager
      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/servers/deploy/install/prepare-to-install-sites

I’ve also confirmed that Setup disallows you from using the several “reserved” site code names and has done so since at least 2012 SP2.

Was unattended setup used? That’s the only way I can think of that may have bypassed this validation.

    • Integrate an Distribution Sender Interpreter

Please integrate an Log Interpreter for easier Log Control
Such as http://www.danrichings.com/?page_id=12 for Sender Log.

This makes the Life for Package Distribution and Server Control easier in an Enterprise Enviroment.

      • Have templates for Windows Server Roles that Site Systems use when deploying

When installing site systems like SUP I want to have specified an template for how Windows Server should be configured like IIS, WSUS Application Pool etc. in addition to installing the WinSrv Roles. This can bed slightly different from customer to customer and would make it easier for them to deploy new Site Systems with a consistency. Stability would go up and troubleshooting would be easier. Thinking about all Site System roles, not only SUP.

        • Make it easier to use HTTPS DP as a pull DP source

It should be much easier to use HTTPS DP as a pull DP source. Now you need to have a special script to define HTTPS DP as source (= complicated) and pull DP needs to have a ConfigMgr client (= licensing issue). I see increasing number of customers who want to use HTTPS in all their internal IIS servers, including ConfigMgr.

          • Allow clients under branch offices to get proxy MP information from assigned secondary site

By default (that am seeing) , clients under branch offices will not get proxy management info unless you add the boundaries of branches into boundary group with mp defined .
Lets take ex: I have lot of branch offices in location that has secondary site with MP,DP,SUP (a.ak. proxy MP) .So when i create boundary group for these branch office boundaries ,i do not specific the MP info in site system tab ,because i do not want my branch office clients to download the content from sec site which is DP and also MP. In this case ,i have not…

            • DB gets into single user mode

Where certain database settings got changed on ConfigMgr database.
We should have a bug to have a prereq check to give error that ConfigMgr admin to validate the database settings before upgrade.

                  • AD Group Discovery

It would very helpful if AD Group Discovery had the capability to bring in attributes for the group, just like AD User Discovery has this capability. example ManagedBy attribute. When writing SSRS reports this would be very helpful.

                    • custom site default settings

Currently ConfigMgr comes with tons of default Settings, Discovery Methods, Site Maintenance, Client Eval Settings, etc.
They are super generic, doesn't matter if I'm settings up a lab for 10 VMs on PC Hardware, or for prod with 500K clients on enterprise hardware, I get the same settings. I'd like the installer to scan the hardware it's getting installed on, and have that as a starting point, then ask me additional questions, Intended purpose, approx expected clients, single site server, or future additional servers, and expected roles, then give custom recommended template for settings to best fit my environment. I'd…

                      • Allow non AD integrated SMTP servers for alert meail notification

When configuring authenticated SMTP only AD style credential (domain\username) are supported.

This prevent thar organizations with smtp server that authetictes against other than AD identity providers can be used.

It would be desirable to allow the use of arbitrary authenticated SMTP server.

                        • Make deletion age configuration in "Delete Aged Status Messages" Site Maintenance task

The "Delete Aged Status Messages" site maintenance task does not allow you to configure an age at which the messages will be deled. This would be helpful for audit purposes.

                          • Add new steps to Update Pack Installation status about boot image updates

Updating ConfigMgr boot images takes quite a long time. However, ConfigMgr console's Update Pack Installation status doesn't tell anything about boot image update. Boot image updates is just part of step: Start WMI.

Please just add new steps to Update Pack Installation status window:
                            - Updating <boot image name>

                              • Issues after upgrading to 1706

I’ve updates to 1706 in my lab. There are a few things that they don’t work appropriate way.
                                1) Log compmon.log said that “Can not get the current execution state for component CONFIGURATION_MANAGER_UPDATE since it is not installed or completed installing.”. That is not true. The update process is finished. The console said all tasks were completed.
                                2) Configuration Manager Service Manager does not communicate with most of components. I have no idea why because they work

                                • Support for Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V Production Checkpoints for Site System VMs

It’s not possible to use the new Production Checkpoint Feature of Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V with VMs that are running a Configuration Manager Site System role. The Checkpoint creation fails.
To enable modern host-based backup like DPM 2016, it is necessary that ConfigMgr. Fully supports this Hyper-V feature.

                                  • Support installing new technical preview releases on an expired technical preview installation

Occasionally I forget to upgrade one of my ConfigMgr TP environments, and it expires. Once expired, the servicing node won't allow new TP releases to be installed. Remove this restriction, let me upgrade expired TPs with new TP releases so I don't have to reinstall and reconfigure.

                                    • When running the "Modify site database configuration" option, allow support for keeping SQL servername the same

When going through the process of changing the configuration for the site database (in order to move it to a new SQL server), if you are keeping your SQL server name the same, the wizard will not allow you to input the same SQL server name as the old. We want to get rid of our SQL 2008 R2 servers running on Windows 2008 R2 and replace with Server 2016 and SQL 2016, but also keep the same hostname for the new server. Our only option since the wizard doesn't support this scenario is to do a backup and restore.

                                      • Change SUP synchronization message to secondary site SUP's to either be high priority or not use file based replication

If you have secondary site SUP's they are told to synchronize by the primary site by file based replication (sender sends a file to the secondary site telling it to sync).

This can be a problem if your secondary site(s) are operating under bandwidth controls, for example if you set to only allow high priority data to be sent during the working day to conserve bandwidth.

If the primary SUP synchronizes but the sender is unable to drop the required file to the secondary site, then what happens is all clients in the secondary site will try and switch their…

                                        • WinRM SSL for installation of remote site systems + TCP 445.

Need certificate based communication between site server and site systems for server role installation. Need to remove dependency on RPC Dynamic ports and use WinRM SSL for secure communication and installation of site roles. This would improve security by eliminating a high range of ports that must be open between site systems.
