How can we improve Configuration Manager?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Run Scripts: Need improved monitoring and reporting on script execution

Allow filtering on Monitoring - Scripts. Filter by time and date, collection, and script name.

  2. Allow Deadline with Start-CMApplicationDeployment using UpdateSupersedence

When using the PoSh Cmdlet Start-CMApplicationDeployment with Parameter -UpdateSupersedence et to $true the DeadlineDateTime Parameter it ignored if the Application is deployed as Available - I actually states it in a Warning as well.
But with UpdateSupersedence set to true we need the Deadline Parameter again, to not enforce the updates immediately.

  3. SMS_ConfigurationItemLatest.ObjectPath property is null

Both the iResultObject from Get-CMConfigurationItem and the SMS_ConfigurationItemLatest object returned from a WMI query have a null value as the objectpath property.

Current workaround is to make recursive queries on SMS_ObjectContainerNode to get the ObjectPath of these objects.

  4. Provide cmdlet to get deployment status summarization statistics

Need a cmdlet to gather/run a deployment status summarization. Providing the deployment statistics with a list of each device and its current state.

In this way I could automate against which systems are currently in error/unknown. There is no simple way to do this outside of the GUI, and I may have dozens of deployments to verify against.

I've seen some possibilities using SQL queries to join 3-4 tables together to pull this off, but it lacks message state value translations. The data coming back doesn't have meaning.

Its simple... I need to get a list of devices that areā€¦

  5. Run Scripts: Do not preserve parameters when scripts are re-run, and log parameter usage in Monitoring

When using parameters, the last value used should be blanked out when run again. The value of parameters is the dynamics of it all. You can overwrite the value but seems it would be best servers to not retain the value after running. Would also be great if the parameter used was logged in the Script Status node for ease of tracking.

  6. MVP-Powershell for Adding EP collection to dashboard (UpdateVisibilityInEPDashBoard)

add-CMCollectionToDashboard and Remove-CMCollectionFromDashboard would be great addition to the existing powershell so the UpdateVisibilityInEPDashBoard WMI method would not be required anymore

  7. Include verbose information with import-cmpackage cmdlet

The Import-CMPackage cmdlet does not provide much in the way of verbose output with the -verbose flag. This would be useful to identify what the cmdlet is performing in the background to determine if package already exists with the same name or not.

    Steps attempted:
    $Global:VerbosePreference = "Continue"
    $Global:DebugPreference = "Continue"
    $Global:CMPSDebugLogging = $true

    import-cmpackage -ImportFilePath "\\localhost\c$\Users\Testing\TestPkg.zip" -Verbose

Output: Verbose: Performing the operation "Import" on target "Package: ".

    Trace-Command -Name metadata,parameterbinding,cmdlet -Expression {Import-CMPackage -ImportFilePath "\\localhost\c$\Users\Testing\TestPkg.zip" -WhatIf} -PSHost
DEBUG: ParameterBinding Information: 0 : BIND NAMED cmd line args [Import-CMPackage]
DEBUG: ParameterBinding Information: 0 : BIND arg [\\localhost\c$\Users\Testing\TestPkg.zip] to parameter [ImportFilePath]

  8. Add a cmdlet to delete (or at least disable) a Client Settings deployment (cmclientsettingsdeployment)

There is currently no cmdlet to delete or disable a deployment of Client Settings. You can create a deployment by using the Start-CMClientSettingDeployment cmdlet but there is absolutely no way of stopping, deleting, or disabling the deployment. If you run a Get-CMDeployment against a collection, it only returns all deployments except a Client Setting.

  9. Allow use if DeploymentID as identifier in Set-CMPackageDeployment and Set-CMSoftwareUpdateDeployment

Set-CMPackageDeployment and Set-CMSoftwareUpdateDeployment do not allow DeploymentID as unique identifier. Instead you need to use e.g. programname and packageid.

In the case of Set-CMSoftwareUpdateDeployment this requires DeploymentName which is not even possible to retrieve from Get-CMDeployment

Please, allow DeploymentID as an option to identifying the deployment in these cmdlets.

  11. Run Scripts: Create Collection based off of results

The scripts feature provides a powerful feature to provide real time information on an enterprise, that hardware inventory may not provide. It would be very helpful if you could create a collection based on the results of Script, or add the machines to an existing collection natively through the CM Console.

  12. New-CMAppliccationDeployment available updatesupersedence deadlinedatetime SCCM 1802

Please enable the deadlinedatetime parameter in the CMDLet for available Packages, so that we can autoupdate available software again without needing the user to take Action.

  13. Export all data option for key nodes

I would like the ability to right-click various nodes, eg packages, applications, task sequences, etc and export the data for that node to a file, eg csv which could easily be read back in via powershell. This would allow test environments to be set up quickly and might even help provide an a way to restore a production environment if all else fails...

  14. Run Scripts: Automatically sort by Name

Currently the script seem to sort by 'Type' or 'Approval State' and I have to choose 'Name' every time I go in to scripts.

  15. Run Scripts: Add Deploy in the Scripts section in the software library

Would love to see the ability to right click on a Script in the software library and be able to select Deploy.

  16. Run Script: Ability to pass collection variables

I want to run a powershell script with the new Run Script, with the ability to see the collection id, collection variables, collection members that script is being ran against. The script runs on the local system as SYSTEM so it can't reach back to SCCM to obtain this information. I know you can add credentials to allow this, but a simple GET-CMRunScriptCollectionName or GET-CMRunScriptCollectionVariables would be nice.

  18. Predeclare devices with powershell

It's could be great to add a powershell cmdlet to import devices, like Import-predeclaredDeivces -Type Android -EMEI 000000 -Description "User A"
Or by importing a CSV :
    Import-predeclaredDeivces -Csv c:\import.csv

  20. Allow Wildcard for cmdlets Get-CMPackage and Remove-CMPackage

This would make it easier to remove multiple packages with similar names.
