How can we improve Configuration Manager?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Separate Pull Distribution Point Throttling from Agent Throttling

If a Pull Distribution Point is throttled, this affects the remote site system from a client perspective, so its client downloads are throttled as well (even though those downloads may essentially come from itself).

Throttled download jobs, as the system is functioning as a Pull DP, should be separated from throttled download jobs as the system is functioning as a client/agent. I'm not sure how this can be accomplished; it may have something more to do with BITS than something internal to ConfigMgr, but it would be welcome.

    • Change Default Content Distribution Priority

Please create a setting (perhaps hierarchy or site) that allows an administrator to define the default content priority by content type. The current system default of Medium is not always appropriate and making this configurable could be a big help. The setting for this is already contained in WMI for most content types so creating a configurable setting in the console should be relatively trivial.

      • pull distribution source

I would suggest one pull distribution poin to pull content from more than one source DP at the same time.

        • Keep Previous Version of Content available while Distributing

Currently, when content for an OS Image, Package, Application, etc is being updated, that object is unavailable until the content update completes. This means that content updates for large items must be timed very carefully, especially when sending to remote sites.

It would be amazing if a Distribution Point could keep the previous version of the item available while the content is updating, then switch to the new content and delete the old after it's completed.

          • Use the content library also for client cache

Please bring the Content Library to the Client Cache. That would be nice to have in some cases only a sync Methode instead of downloading over BITS a kompressed file.

            • An option to configure a DP such that it only downloads the distributed content from the site when the first client requests for it.

An option to configure a DP such that it only downloads the distributed content from the site when the first client requests for it. This will help manage DP disk space efficiently as most of the content never gets used at a remote site but we do not know what's really needed in advance. With semi annual channels the content problem is getting worse each day.

Below is the config manager thread I had opened and an expert asked me to submit a request here.

Remove the extra steps to create a collection of one or more existing machines to deploy a program or application or task sequence to.

When needing to do a small targeted and IMMEDIATE deployment the admin should be able to right click and pick what to deploy and when he hits ok an adhoc collection should automatically be created into a default folder, say call it "Adhoc Collections" which without any keystrokes, mouse clicks or mouse swipes would be created in that folder with a name starting with the date in format YearMonthDay-Hour:Minute:Second-(Package | App Name | Task sequence|)-CreatorName
                The…

                • Add Secondary Site Code in Shared Distribution Points View

When setting up Shared Distribution Points between a SCCM vNext (CB 1610) site and a CM07 hierarchy it would be helpful to include the Secondary Site Code in the Shared Distributions Points view under the Migration/Source Hierarchy node.

In environments with large SCCM hierarchies (2800+ sites) being able to reference the site code/site name instead of just the server name in this view would be very helpful.

                  • Elaborated Bandwidth Throttling

Currently, we can configure 'time-based' bandwidth throttling, which means we can restrict content transfer for a particular time period and that will be applicable for all days (same). What if, I want to configure different throttling setting for weekends (or may be some other days), during which, there is less load on network and I can loosen up the restriction.

                    • Fix SCCM Content Validation to be able to validate even when the Content Location Folder is empty

Fix SCCM Content Validation to be able to validate even when the Content Location Folder is empty.

If you send content to a DP and it has a content location but the folder has nothing in it, you will be able to send the content to the DP just fine but the Content Validation will fail when it runs.

                      • Software Center: Show more details regarding package information

Users are regularly informed via a pop-up that new software is available. If you then open the Software Center, you will see countless entries with status Installed or Available. However, it is not recognizable for the user whether a program listed is suitable for him, whether it represents a new version of a software already used by him or should not even be installed.
It would be better to let the user know which new software is a new version of an already installed one and, moreover, what features this new software provides. Thus, a distinction for the user would…

                        • Separate content removal and distribution

Currently removing packages etc from an distribution point jams the distribution threads stopping new content going out to distribution points
With 1000s of dp this can be troublesome
Separating this into its own thread will allow content to be sent and removed at the same time

                          • Stale Source Files

I would like to see a report or a tool that runs against all my apps, packages, etc.. and the source location and tell me how many files in the source location are not associated to anything in SCCM, this would be great for O&M and keeping the server healthy.

                            • content library logging

Could logging for content library be improved.
Recently had a situation where the ini, sig files weren't created in the FileLib. Noticed the logs weren't helpful when it came to actions managing the content library on distribution points. This made resolving difficult.

                                • Ability to move Distribution point from one secondary site server to another secondary site server' has been merged into this idea

when we need to remove secondary site server or when need to rebuild secondary site server with another site code. A full uninstall and re install required for all Distribution points associated with that secondary site.
Also when we need to move a DP from one site code to another site code, it requires uninstall / re install….to avoid this it will be helpful to have ability to move DP’s between secondaries.
