  1. Add 'Expiration Date' and/or 'Deployment Status' column to Deployments tab for Packages

When looking at the Deployments tab of a package or a collection we would like to add a column that could tell us if a deployment has been expired. This could be the Expiration Date set in the advertisement, or a Status (such as Future / Active / Expired).

In CM07 we could add the Expires After column to the view of Advertisements. This request is to bring back this helpful info into a list of deployments..

This would help make maintenance possible. It is difficult to find the advs that have expired today, to delete them.

    Bonus functionality wouldā€¦

  2. Pre-Cache Monitoring in Console

When using Pre-Cache content in a Task Sequence, there's no easy way to see pre-cache download progress per client in the console.

Status could be included in the Monitoring / Deployment / In Progress, so that we can see which client has completed pre-cache download.

  3. More Options to configure Boundaries

Currently you can only configure Boundaries based on IP Addresses or AD-Sites.
However, in some situations it would be great to have more Options.
For example, if you manage Clients in multiple protected NAT Environments.
ItĀ“s possible that multiple sites/zones use the same IP Ranges, so you cannot configure Clients to use local DPs.
A possibility would be a Reg Key like HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CCM:AllowedMPs, but for Boundary Groups.

  4. Improve the deployment summarization timing when viewing deployments under monitoring.

Improve the deployment summarization timing when viewing deployments under monitoring.

Many times, when viewing a deployment, the summarized data (pie chart and total counts) lags behind. The details of each status of the deployment is accurate and up to date, but the summarization is not real time.

There are two similar suggestions already on UV:
    https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/20167021-admin-console-should-show-update-synchronization-a

    https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/32885422-make-status-summarization-and-state-messaging-fast

My recommendation is to trigger a summarization as soon as you view the deployment, to eliminate one step of the process. If you are opening the deployment, you will always want the latest data.

  5. Have PkgXferMgr set *all* jobs destined to a given Pull DP to retry after the configured interval on failure

Currently, if there are 100 jobs in DistributionJobs destined for a given Pull DP, and PkgXferMgr fails to connect to the DP for the first one, only that job is marked with a retry time 20 minutes (by default) in the future. We then move on to the next jobs, all destined for the same DP, and mark them individually for retry. In a very busy environment with lots of Pull DPs and jobs, having just 5 or 6 DPs that are offline, this looping prevents PkgXferMgr from scheduling most of the jobs that are destined to DPs that areā€¦

  6. Peer Caching Boundary Groups

ConfigMgr Team, your best practice document regarding the set up of boundary groups actually breaks peer caching.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/servers/deploy/configure/define-site-boundaries-and-boundary-groups

To quote: "it is a best practice to create a separate set of boundary groups to use only for site assignment."

This is good advise, and I use this also for Management Points and Software Update Points so that if I add or remove a site system, I only have to modify 1-2 boundary groups instead of 150.

Since Peer Caching is now based on Boundary Groups, if you have implemented this best practice, then effectively every client in a site thatā€¦

  8. Prevent the SCCM client from using hyper-v IP addresses

If you install Hyper-V on Windows 10, it will create a default adapter and randomly create an IP address, usually in the 172.x.x.x subnet. If by chance, you have a boundary that this random IP address falls into, the SCCM client will think it is part of this boundary, in addition to the boundary associated with it's physical NIC. The client considers both boundaries to be a Current boundary group and will therefore potentially download content from DP's associated within either boundary. In most situations, this additional DP will likely be across a WAN link which of course can causeā€¦

  9. Retry mechanism when deleting packages

When a package is deleted from the console, the packages/apps are removed from the database. If for any reason a pull DP or DP is not available, or WMI has issues on those remotes site systems, the files on the remote SCCM content Lib are not removed. This creates orphaned files on the Content Lib and causes storage issues on the servers.
We are working with a customer that as a large number of PullDP's so we would like to suggest on the behalf of our customer, to have a retry mechanism in the console to delete the content fromā€¦

  10. Deduplication support for content source

Windows Server 2012 R2 data deduplication is currently only for the content library on distribution points but not on the content source itself (https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/configmgrteam/2014/02/18/configuration-manager-distribution-points-and-windows-server-2012-data-deduplication/). It would be nice to have deduplication support also on the content source. This might depend on the content source structure, but in the environments I'm working with, I have always different versions of application sources with only slightly different configuration files or just additional patch files.

  11. Report to Detail download duration and size of content for each Client

As more users are working from home for the current pandemic the network teams are constantly asking... how much data are SCCM Clients downloading over the VPN.
I would like to see a report that we can see the size of content and how long it took each client to download the content for updates, packages and applications. Even at what speed BITs was downloading so we could see which of our users have very slow/small Internet connections at home. This should include whether they downloaded from MS Updates, on-prem DP's or the CMG.

  12. FIX: Distribution Point Usage Summary Report is Empty

    This report has no data:

Home > ConfigMgr_PS1 > Software Distribution - Content > Distribution point usage summary

Reason is the SMSDistributionPoint_Monitoring component selects the last alphabetically stored and '*' separated MP name from registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\DP - ManagementPoints. This happens to be a management point in our untrusted DMZ forest and our production forest distribution points can not access this DMZ forest management point on port 443 due to firewall rules.

When we rearrange the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\DP - ManagementPoints value so it will reference a production forest management point as the last '*' separated entry, the distribution pointā€¦

  13. Boundary Group - Link a Site System Server and choose the role you want to use

When you have a Site System Server with both Management Point and Distribution Point roles and you want to link it to a boundary group, it would be great/usefull to select the role you want to link.
For example, in our environment, we have 2 servers. 1 with MP/SUP/DP for Wan access, 1 with only DP for LAN (Customers office) access. If I want that all Customers Offices workstations connect to MP, I must add both server to boundary group and the result is that Office's workstations will have the possibility to select both DP (using the WAN link). Iā€¦

  14. Provide Support for DFS Replication of Content Library

With the introduction of Site Server High Availability, this would be a considerable step towards additional capabilities to leverage for content high availability. While using a DFS share is viable, adding support for DFS-R would greatly enhance the effectiveness and ease of deploying a HA solution that would have considerable advantages on a passive site server across a larger distance. As a bonus, this implementation could be used separately from HA if desired.

  15. TRusted Source locations - Complete the Trusted Source story

I would like to see Trusted Source locations to be added to ConfigMgr as a Node in Administration, and permission so that only Full Administrator or a specific RBA Role can manage these locations.

All ConfigMgr wizards that allow path data-entry will be changed to become a drop down list of approved Trusted Source locations. The User will be able to navigate into the folder structure of the Trusted Source location, creating new directories with a restriction on placing content on the root of the Trusted Source location, since this can induce data-loss if the sub-folder is not specified inā€¦

  16. Client cache idea

I was at MMS and I know you guys are working on this, but I thought I would share a simple idea in case no one has thought of it. Make the current cache size setting into the "Base" cache size. Add a second setting called "Expanded" cache size. Normally the cache will be at the base size, but when it needs to download something larger than the base amount, the expanded setting kicks into effect. For the expanded setting, you specify "Use up to x% of free space on drive" The expanded setting would use as much cache asā€¦

  17. OS deployment realtime monitor

Sometimes I need to reboot the SCCM server and there are techs in the middle of deploying an operating system. It would be nice to see a live monitor of active os deployments.

  18. Add a prompt offering to delete the source directory when deleting anything with a content source directory

When cleaning up old applications, packages, driver packs and wim files. It would be nice to have the option for sccm to also delete the content source directory.

  19. Increase block size for pulse mode (distribution point rate limit)

Using pulse mode rate limit on a distribution point can enable a 2Mbps bandwidth cap. This is useful and it would be great if the block size limit of 256KB be increased to support higher thresholds.

  20. Fix Distribution Point usage reporting, smsdpusage, so that it honours the preferred Management Points defined in Boundary Groups.

Currently the smsdpusage process does not honour the DPs preferred Management Points for the submission of the usage report. Instead, it appears to pick the last MP listed in the following registry location, HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SMS\DP\ManagementPoints. In some cases this MP may not be reachable and as a result no DP usage reports are submitted to SCCM.
