  1. Request to add support for Distribution Point Maintenance mode

Situations where maintenance mode is useful/needed:
    1. When the system (hardware) is in transit from the location where it was installed to the site where it is to be used in production.
    2. When the system is down for other maintenance (software patching and updates, OS configuration changes, hardware reconfiguration and other external factors causing planned or unplanned downtime).
The above outlined method for installing new DPs to remote locations is widely used for various reasons (For example to have a dedicated team at one location install machine and to avoid having to copy a large content library across WAN…

    • Ability to move Distribution point from one secondary site server to another secondary site server

when we need to remove secondary site server or when need to rebuild secondary site server with another site code. A full uninstall and re install required for all Distribution points associated with that secondary site.
Also when we need to move a DP from one site code to another site code, it requires uninstall / re install....to avoid this it will be helpful to have ability to move DP's between secondaries.

      thanks

      • Show live distribution status within the console

Show the live status of content copying to distribution points (status bar) in the Admin console, Essentially the existing DP Job queue Manager

        • User friendly progress tracking when distributing content to distribution points.

User friendly progress tracking when distributing content to distribution points. At the moment when asked how long it will take to have content available one needs to track the logs and guess a time frame. If it would be possible to have a progress tracker i.e. speed at which the content is copying, queue tracking, and eta.

          • Distribution Points are by default NOT assigned the same priority

            CURRENT FUNCTIONALITY

When a new Distribution Point (DP) whether it is a normal DP or a Pull DP is installed to a ConfigMgr 2012 R2 site, the priority assigned to this new DP is always the same by default.

            REQUEST FOR CHANGE

It is often desired that Pull DPs are by default assigned lower priority than the normal DPs.

            MORE INFORMATION

When operating a site with many (hundreds of) DPs installed, the normal DPs serve as source distribution points for the Pull DPs. It is therefore desired, that those normal DPs will have the new package files copied over before…

We do have some intelligence for Pull DPs. For example, if the content is not available on any of the source DPs yet, we don’t send out the instructions to Pull DP.

Let us know if you have any additional comments OR see this behave differently.

            • Add TFPBlockSize and TFTPWindowsSize to the DP configuration page in the Admin Console

It would great to be able to configure TFTPBlocksize and TFTPWindowsSize on PXE-enabled DPs from the Configuraiton Manager console, and not having to edit the registry or to use Configuration Item/Baseline to do this. An option on the PXE tab in the Distribution Point properties please?!

              • Feature Request: Introduce a 'Remediate' option for Package/DPs for remediating package failures.

When a package fails to distribute to a DP, the only option right now is to 'Redistribute' the package to the DP. This is inefficient for large packages since 'Redistribute' transfers all package content to the DP even if some content may have already been transferred prior to the failure. For large packages, this not only takes a lot of time but consumes more network bandwidth than necessary.

When a package is 'added' to the DP, only the missing files are copied to the DP however there is no way to simulate an 'add' action from the UI.

                Having the…

                • Allow Pull DP to use the Internet name of a source DP

                  Whereas:
A Cloud DP is not a valid source for a Pull DP due to lack of a SIS content library.

                  Whereas:
PDPs use a source DP's intranet name to obtain content.

                  Whereas:
Configuration Manager Current Branch fully supports an Azure infrastructure implementation as well as DPs facing the Internet.

                  Whereas:
Although using a public IP internally for a source DP would allow a PDP to find an Internet IP, it would also have potential to cause other communications issues for the primary site, domain controllers, etc..

                  Whereas:
The PDP's hosts file could redirect the source DP intranet name to…

                    • Integrate LEDBAT into ConfigMgr

LEDBAT is a Congestion Control Mechanism that's coming to Windows Server 2016/Windows 10. Successfully used by BitTorrent/Apple Software Update to reduce Bandwidth Saturation during content downloads. This would make WAN transfers of content by BITS (or any other mechanism) 'give way' to other business traffic. Would also improve Software Update scans and HW/Inv Uploads to the MP. LEDBAT makes sure that only unused bandwidth is used for the transfer.

                      • Have PkgXferMgr set *all* jobs destined to a given Pull DP to retry after the configured interval on failure

Currently, if there are 100 jobs in DistributionJobs destined for a given Pull DP, and PkgXferMgr fails to connect to the DP for the first one, only that job is marked with a retry time 20 minutes (by default) in the future. We then move on to the next jobs, all destined for the same DP, and mark them individually for retry. In a very busy environment with lots of Pull DPs and jobs, having just 5 or 6 DPs that are offline, this looping prevents PkgXferMgr from scheduling most of the jobs that are destined to DPs that are…

                        • Retry mechanism when deleting packages

When a package is deleted from the console, the packages/apps are removed from the database. If for any reason a pull DP or DP is not available, or WMI has issues on those remotes site systems, the files on the remote SCCM content Lib are not removed. This creates orphaned files on the Content Lib and causes storage issues on the servers.
We are working with a customer that as a large number of PullDP's so we would like to suggest on the behalf of our customer, to have a retry mechanism in the console to delete the content from…

                          • Enable HTTP content locations for source files

Enable the use of HTTP and HTTPS locations as source locations for content. With the increaseing use of GitHub and binary repositories like Artifactory the ability to use HTTP locations as content locations for applications and packages would be greatly helpful in managing and distributing the a content in an efficient manner within SCCM.

I would like to see Trusted Source locations to be added to ConfigMgr as a Node in Administration, and permission so that only Full Administrator or a specific RBA Role can manage these locations.

All ConfigMgr wizards that allow path data-entry will be changed to become a drop down list of approved Trusted Source locations. The User will be able to navigate into the folder structure of the Trusted Source location, creating new directories with a restriction on placing content on the root of the Trusted Source location, since this can induce data-loss if the sub-folder is not specified in…

                              • Allow the admins to select (and ignore the current) the actual order of providers from which SCCM grabs the IP address for Content Location

The idea would be to have a setting (maybe Custom Client settings is a good place) where we can specify a specific order of priorities for network adapters from which SCCM takes the ipv4 address for content distribution and site assignment.

For example, we currently have the following settings in the network adapter configuration
                                1- wireless
                                2- LAN
                                3- Remote Access connections

For VPN clients this is a big issue if we have a boundary which conflicts with one of the internal ones, like 192.168.x.x since they'll use the local IP as a top priority instead of the VPN one.

                                • Peer Cache Options

Add an option to have Peer Cache to work with boundary groups, subnet broadcast or both. My understanding is that 1607 Peer Cache will broadcast local subnet for peers that have the content, 1610 it's based off of Boundary groups. In environment, using boundary groups for peer cache will not work, like to have the option to tell the clients to use boundary group, subnet broadcast or both?

                                  • Support additional distmgr/pkgxfer manager component servers in primary sites to support load balancing of software distribution jobs.

Some primary sites have many remote distributed DP site systems and this can cause many content jobs to be managed by a single distribution manager / package transfer manager, which can cause delays and in some cases heavy server resource utilisation. I would like to see Sccm support load balancing of content jobs across a primary site.

                                    • Make Pull DPs wait when updating content

When you update the version of a package/application that has already been distributed to all DPs, the Pull DPs sometimes error out because they are looking for the updated content on the source DP(s) when the source DPs are still receiving the content. The results in an error status for package for the Pull DPs.

                                      • Add a prompt offering to delete the source directory when deleting anything with a content source directory

When cleaning up old applications, packages, driver packs and wim files. It would be nice to have the option for sccm to also delete the content source directory.

                                        • Provide the ability to set the number of PullDP that can download at the same time.

By providing this settings, it would ease up massive distribution of a package to many PullDP.
A setting similar to Concurent download on DP would be perfect!

As of now, updating a package hosted on 1000 PullDP will trigger all PullDP at the same time to update the package.
This cause high CPU and IO on the server as well as potential network load.
