How can we improve Configuration Manager?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  2. Correct behavior of the "Add Resources" button (SCCM all versions).

Correct behavior of the "Add Resources" button (SCCM all versions).
When you use the "add resources" (to collection) button it uses the RBAC_InstancePermissions and does not take into account the limiting collection.
This is a problem in an environment where people take up different roles. For instance when you have different geographical units (each with limiting collections) and people have an additional read-only role for example for everything.

In this case the code behind a "direct membership" rule has the correct behavior, while the code behind the "add resources" button allows to add any resource.

  3. Resultant set of Maintenance Windows

Ability to get a resultant set of maintenance windows. There are some third party powershell scripts that can be used, but this would be a nice feature in the console

  5. collections sort by deployments

add a filter-able column to device collections for "Deployment Count" similar to referenced collections. that way I can easily find collections that have deployments, rather than sorting through hundreds of deployments or thousands of collections to the collections that have deployments.

  6. Fix collection update engine

The way collection membership updates are handled is completely flawed. Should this be fixed, the (soft) limit of collections that can have incremental updates enabled should also be changed.

We all know that when a collection is updated, all collections limited to it are also updated. And should any of the children collections be updated, then so will the children of the children, and so forth and so on.

However, there is a massive design flaw that in this system that means a huge number of collections that should *never* be updated are being updated.

    Imagine this scenario:

  8. "Primary User" or "Last Logged on User" in the NON SERVER COLLECTION?!

Right now while your looking at any collection there no way to add a drop down for "last logged on user" or "primary user"

IF you check the properties for individual devices you can get this info. Its very frustrating we cannot see this info in the console page!

PLEASE let me know if there is any workaround or if you can add this - Ive literally seen 10's if not 100's of forum threads asking for this exact same thing to be added!!!!!

  9. Collection Columns

Is it possible/can we please implement the ability to load collected system or user discovery data as columns for collections and the Users/Devices areas?

(May be duplicated with an idea inside an idea of another Collection idea, but I did my fair share of browsing before posting this...)

Currently there are only five or six columns available for the Users area in the console, and the ability to display custom collected active directory information from system discovery as a column such as 'Managed By' or 'Description' for a device in the devices area isn't available. Inclusively, data collected from theā€¦

  10. Limiting Collection Notification

When a device is added to a collection but is not a member of the limiting collection(s), there should be a prompt that notifies the user of this and what collection(s) the device needs to be a member of first.

  11. Set or remove scheduled full update time to a selected group of collections

When creating multiple collections, unchecking the schedule full update time, is sometimes overlooked. It would be nice to be able to select several collections and either set or remove scheduled update settings. Or add a column option to show the scheduled update times to avoid having to go into properties for each collection. TY!

  12. Create an Collection Base on IOS Profile or Android Devices

actually all device enrolled come on all IOS device but is not manageable if we want to deploy App or Base rule on Different devices we need to Create manually an collection and add all the devices in this collection also manually who generate a lot of works.

if we have the possibility to create an collection and to be able to have all device registered who are assigned to ios Profile this collection will be populate automatically and that will also give our live more easy,

eg: if we create an ios Profile Kiosk IPad Sales or Profile Kioskā€¦

  13. Increase results displayed or enable a filter window for criterion selection when creating a query for collection membership.

Currently when creating a collection based on installed software or software version there is a limit to the returned results based on criterion. If the item you are looking for is far enough down the list, you can't see it to select it. Adding additional rows to display on the return or a filter window would be greatly beneficial

  14. Collection Expiration

Provide an option to "expire" a collection where it gets removed (or at lease collection evaluations are disabled) on a specified date. This would help with the collection evaluator from becoming overloaded with processing Pilot/Test collections that were "forgotten".

  15. When deploying a task sequence from a collection: Don't clear the chosen collection!

When right clicking a collection and choosing to deploy a task sequence to that collection, after the TS has been chosen the chosen collection is cleared.

When one have made a conscious effort of what collection to deploy to, trust that the operator have made the right choice!

Clearing the collection is a highly unwanted nanny state :(
You might as well remove the possibility to deploy TS's via collections then :(

  16. Remove the option to deleted the members from a collect when the collection is deleted.

It seem odd that since you multi-select and deleted user / computers that you would need to have a prompt to delete the users / computers when deleting the collection.

The process should be if you need to deleted the users / computers and the collection.
    - Multi-select and deleted computers. If there is a large number users / computers blocks deleted if number excesses High-Risk deployment settings.
    - Deleted the Collection
    - If the collection is limiting another collection. Then prompt if that collection should be deleted too.

I would be nice if in the Devices view there was an option to display the currently logged on user and the IP of the device so that I would not have to run a query all the time to get that information.

  19. UserName and MachineName displayed in Collections

I'd like to be able to view UserName and MachineName as a column in Collections. If the user logs into multiple machines then have SCCM select the most recent date or the machine with the most minutes logged-in.

  20. Referenced Collections

I would like to be able to easily see which collection that my collection is referenced to.

I can easily see what collections are referenced in my collection, but knowing if I make a change to the membership of x collection then it could effect the membership of y collection would be handy
