How can we improve Configuration Manager?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Update asset management to include everything that is needed for license discussions (at least with Microsoft)

MAP Toolkit is a good tool but why should we have to use it when Asset Management is available in Configuration Manager? I'd expect to see edition of SQL Server, BIOS info on Windows licensing, virtualization rights, etc. in ConfigMgr. Reports are needed that would show number of processors/cores in front of products that are licensed based on number of processors/cores.

  2. Warranty Info

Currently there are scripts out there that can get warranty information, but HP for example seem to change the layout of their site that you have to reconfigure the scripts. It would be nice if Microsoft worked with the various vendors to be able to consistently retrieve that data.

  3. Asset Intelligence

    Two ideas -
Have a methodology to integrate license entitlements from an Enterprise Agreement (or select agreement) into asset intelligence. Perhaps in addition, there could be a report showing licenses under an expired agreement that you are no longer entitled to use (ie. any subscription based license).

Integration of the MAP toolset for license tracking purposes for licenses that are based on socket counts. For example, if you license the host for SQL Enterprise, there should be a way to roll up virtual instances to the host level to ensure compliance and report on them inside Asset intelligence. Assuming thisā€¦

  4. Delete multiple expired Client Operations

I would love to be able to select all expired Client operations and be able to delete them all at once..

Now we have to select one by one and delete them.

  6. Add Software Metering information to Data warehouse

Ability to add Software Metering Data to the Data warehouse. This will allow potentially up to three years of trends of application usage that would help greatly with re-ups of applications.

  7. True metering of an Application, but not an exe

Excellent work in adding new features in SCCM 2012.
Current model of metering thru exe, though works to an extent, it has flaws and doesn't offer needed confidence or trust to business about actual metering of an application as its limited to an exe. If possible, I request Microsoft to research on allowing SCCM admin to select an application, in backend SCCM converts that to all related exe for metering on clients and then monitor only installed application of those group of exe. Its note easy and throw some challenges but I trust and for experts at MS, nothing isā€¦

  8. Asset Intelligence for hardware requirements

Under Asset Intelligence for hardware requirements can you add TPM? with Cred Guard, Device Guard, BitLocker and other new features coming from Microsoft this would be a nice check to have built-in.

  9. Making CTRL+V (Keyboard Paste) work in the "Import Computer Information" dialog

Making CTRL+V (Keyboard Paste) work in the "Import Computer Information" dialog would allow to quickly paste the MAC or the BIOS UUID, instead of having to accurately place the mouse cursor for a right-click Paste.

  12. Unable to store DEVICE_GUARD_DATA coming from client HW inventory in SCCM database

After extending the hardware inventory to collect DEVICE_GUARD_DATA clients are sending the inventory but its failing to process on the SCCM server. It fails with error: Compilation failed~syntax error on line 8345, token ',' SMS_INVENTORY_DATA_LOADER 10/26/2016 2:54:48 PM 19308 (0x4B6C)

Got the MIF file from the customer and checked it. Its failing on below section on "AvailableSecurityProperties":

  13. Remove the SMS_Unit qualifier for classes like v_gs_partition, as inventoried from win32_diskpartition

Classes like v_gs_partition, as inventoried from win32_diskpartition may use a definition such as SMS_Unit ("KiloBytes") for certain properties.
Block size for instance will then be reported as 0 even if there is an value like 512 hence all devices may report incorrectly 0 as block size.
Removing the SMS_Unit for all those properties resolves that issue.
The same also happens for e.g. win32_volume.

  14. OEM Windows license for use in TS, collections and reports

It would be great if we could check the OEM Windows license in the UEFI for asset management, OS Deployment and reports.
My scenario is thousands of computers with OEM licenses comprising all from Windows Vista to Windows 10.
To help the deployment of Windows 10 in the company we have bought hundreds of Windows 10 licenses.
Therefore, we have to maintain a list of these licenses and the computers they are given to.
I have a task sequence that checks the OEM license for Windows 10 in the UEFI and in a SQL database and then selects to installā€¦

  15. Add OS Information to General Information Area

I think it would be nice if the General Information Area under the each asset could show the OS Version.

    See photo for details.

  16. Add some usefullness to the Asset Intelligence

Provide some usefulness to create reports, pull uninstall information, possibly allow a simple right-click create uninstall package from software in the Inventoried Software List. Currently this is a mostly useless item as all it does is show the install count, does not even list the devices that have something installed.

  17. Software-Inventory: Click on the Software to see where it is installed

It would be nice to double-click on a inventoried Software to see on which Clients this Software is installed.

  18. Make it easier to get Hardware and Software Inventory

It should be much easier for getting inventory of hardware and software. There are so many good inventory tools out there and SCCM just fail on that part.

  19. more granular control over client settings

Would it be possible to add more granular control over client settings, for example by incorporating a GPO style Enabled, Disabled, Not Configured function. I particularly find multiple deployments of Computer Agent settings fiddly. Its not the end of the world, its just a bit clunky.

  20. Possibility to add custom wmi classes

Part of the functionality seems to already be in the system, when adding a new Hardware inventory class. The point being the custom class(es) should be replicated to all providers, included in the database, and backed up when running the built-in backup task. This is useful when extending the console and striving for full integration, including the possibility to save settings and configurations.
