  1. Enable use of collection and computer variables in application model

For the same reasons that computer and collection variables are useful and strategic for OSD, they would also be with the application model. Examples:
+ Customizing command-line parameters for installation
+ Leveraging in scripts for the protection of secret/sensitive data like passwords or product keys

  2. Application Task Sequence

For complex software deployments, we regularly use Task Sequences to sequence reboots and installation orders, as well as containing logic on the various steps to only run when certain conditions are met. This allows for much more complex and flexible deployments.

The problem is, if a reboot step is initiated, no Task Sequence progress is displayed to the user to let them know that installations are taking place behind the scenes. To them, the reboot occurs and then they return to the CTRL+AT+DEL screen.

It would be great if a new class of Task Sequence could be created that wouldā€¦

  3. Application Dependency Management

Managing applications and understanding their dependencies is a significant challenge. Having the ability to understand what applications depend on system components, such as .NET or other, would be a significant benefit to ensure minimal production impact when working to upgrade an operating system or an application version. A recent example in a customers infrastructure was legacy software with dependencies on a specific version of .NET. Being able to see what these dependencies are ahead of time across the enterprise and manage them proactively would have been a huge win.

  4. Option to use SYSTEM context for detection method for a user-based application deployment

The application detection method only runs in the user context if it is deployed to a user collection. This would be reasonable if the Deployment Type user experience were set to "Install for User" (User context), however the detection method runs in the user context when this is set to "Install for system" installation behavior (SYSTEM context).

  5. Allow required deployments to be uninstalled

We typically want our users to receive new software without action on their part, so required deployments generally make sense. However, this prevents users from being able to uninstall software (without the app eval cycle putting it back) unless CM administrators are involved.

Having an option allowing required deployments to essentially transform into available deployments if the user clicks the Uninstall button in Software Center would be useful to us since we could satisfy the requirement of delivering software without end user action and also allow end users to uninstall unneeded software.

  6. Fix (!) Task Sequence "Rerun if failed previous attempt" behaviour when deploying as Required

When deploying a task sequence as required it doesn't retry until you deploy it again. Why doesn't it try again at next cycle, like a required application does?
We have several TS's that install large applications, autocad etc, and sometimes they fail on clients. If I correct the TS or correct the issue on the client there is no possible way to rerun it without re-deploying it, making the "Rerun if failed previous attempt" absolutely pointless and to be more like "Do nothing and stay failed forever".

  7. Office 365 Installer - Detection Method

Office 365 Installer - Detection Method
When creating an application for Office 365 using the built-in "Office 365 Installer" feature, the application gets created with a default detection method that only uses the version.
So, if you create 3 separate applications (Office, Project, and Visio), or if you create Applications with different languages, they all have the same detection methods.
So, if you install Office first, you can't Visio or Project.
The detection method should include a product and language:

    Examples:
    SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\VisioProRetail - da-dk
    SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ProjectProRetail - da-dk
    SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\O365ProPlusRetail - da-dk

  8. Deploy Application Groups to Users

The 1906 application group feature only allows you to deploy application groups to devices. Please extend this feature to enable application groups for user deployments as well.

  9. Show icon set for an application in admin console

Applications can have a custom icon set for them. Applications listed in the SCCM Admin Console have an "icon", but it's the same generic one for every application. Would love to see the icon I set in admin console next to each app for easy identification.

  10. Application Model - Fast Retry interval

By default Fast rety interval is 2 hours. There is no option to change this setting. We would like have option to change this internval.

Note in Pacakage model we have option to change this setting through site control file

  11. "Test Detection method" button.

Basically, configure your detection method, then have a "Test Detection method" button which has a prompt to enter a device name for testing the detection method on.

would be useful in particular for the vbscript/powershell type detection methods.

Just needs to return an "Application detected" or "Application not detected" result.

  12. App Model Optional User deployment behavior

App Model - Optional User Deployment - When user policy is recieved, perform app eval to check if app is installed, if so show as installed in Software Center. (Currently it doesn't evaluate and shows option to install even if already present. When you click the install button... it then performs the evaluation and changes to installed and provides the uninstall button. This is confusing to our end users)

  14. Enable configuration of deadline randomization per-deployment

Currently, deadline randomization is a client setting that applies to all deployments targeted to systems; however, there are many cases where selectively enabling or disabling deadline randomization would be ideal. For example, many customers disable deadline randomization because it affects application deployments (which are often deployed to a subset of systems and impacts user communications/expectations/predictability about deployment timing), even though they see benefits of enabling it particularly for software updates (which are often deployed to most systems). Deadline randomization can significantly reduce the resource demand on the ConfigMgr infrastructure when deploying several software updates to many systems. Having deadline randomizationā€¦

  15. Variable for the package cache path

It would be great to have a variable you can use in the Installation/Uninstallation Program, for use with installations that need a full path for an answer file. Like an InstallShield iss file.
I have a great deal of other installers that have their own answer files and most need a full path for the file.
So instead of having a full path for a network share it would be great to be able to use a variable that have the path for the local cache for the application. E.g. C:\Windows\ccmcache\2n
I have tried %CD%, which works in the commandā€¦

  16. Add grace period to delay detection method for installers that exit too quickly

Many application installers spawn child processed and then exit before actually finishing, causing Detection Method to fail. The solution widely used right now is to wrap the installer in a script and use some kind of "sleep" function. It would useful to have an optional parameter on the "detection method" tab to delay the detection check for up to 'x' seconds/minutes after the installer exits.

Note: we can sort of do this now by forcing a reboot after the installer exits; the computer will restart and run detection check afterwards, but this just leads to a lot of longer installsā€¦

  17. Fix 'CI Version Info Timed Out' error

My applications are successfully installing on client devices however the Console is showing an error for the deployment in the monitoring section. The only description of the error is 'CI Version Info Timed Out'. I have tried all the workarounds found online.
    - Deleting and recreating a package to reset the revision number
    - Deleting deployment and recreating deployment
    - Updating collection and redistributing content

Nothing works permanently the errors come right back

  18. Ability to install packages from NuGet/PackageManagement/PowerShellGet feed

Ability to install packages from NuGet/PackageManagement/PowerShellGet feed. This will allow managing on-premise/cloud based infra using a NuGet feed like myget.org, TeamCity, OctopusDeploy and a DevOps type workflow.

  19. Allow "Applications" to run under alternate account other than "SYSTEM"

Allow "Applications" to run under alternate account other than "SYSTEM". Some applications will not run under a s SYSTEM account and have to run with a domain account. It is only possible when using a task sequence to accomplish this now and it can only be done with packages.

  20. Active Setup Integration - Wizard / GUI

Some (MSI) applications (e.g. usually CAD software) will be configured via HKCU Registry hive, files in %appdata% or another files in user paths.
It would be nice if a new user logs on (e.g. after OSD), these settings takes place automatically.
This can already be done rudimentary via Active Setup, but not really comfortable (e.g. you have to do logging by yourself, no out of the box feedback in case of success / errors, etc).
Please integrate Active Setup or a new fully solution for that cases as a GUI / Wizard in Application Management.
