  1. Allow required deployments to be uninstalled

We typically want our users to receive new software without action on their part, so required deployments generally make sense. However, this prevents users from being able to uninstall software (without the app eval cycle putting it back) unless CM administrators are involved.

Having an option allowing required deployments to essentially transform into available deployments if the user clicks the Uninstall button in Software Center would be useful to us since we could satisfy the requirement of delivering software without end user action and also allow end users to uninstall unneeded software.

  2. Application Catalog should have the ability to detect the OS platforms.

This is to avoid user install the wrong OS platforms applications and unnecessary error pop up which give wrong impression to end user and increase support costs. It should only shown up whatever is applicable similar like software center / Run Advertised Program (RAP).

  3. Pre distribute content to clients before deadline.

I work in a quite big Environment, 30k clients and my network team isn’t that happy when we pull the trigger to update our critical LOB apps due to the fact that every computer downloads the content almost at the same time. That puts a lot of pressure on the network infrastructure.
There for it would be great to be able to preload the clients with content for applications in a slow and steady way before the deadline falls for the application.

  4. Have the ability to pre-deploy an available application on a user’s primary device.

Today in the application model you can only pre-deploy a required deployment of an application on the users’ primary device but this has 2 drawbacks:
    • Required means that the user doesn’t have the means to uninstall the application and potentially repair the application (uninstall+install).
    • Required means also that when the user logs on to another machine, maybe just to consult a web page, the required applications also get installed unless the global condition primary device equals true was set.
This is all about provisioning a new machine for a user. Of course there are always common applications, like…

  5. Control the order of software dependencies in app model

if i have multiple dependencies for an application(all different apps), there is no way to control the order in which they should be installed unless you create dependency group name with priority. In this example,i have no way to control the order of installation since they are all different category apps and cannot use dependency group.

  6. Allow API integration for application approval requests

We would like to see a feature whereby the approvals workflow for applications can be handed off to an external system. For applications which require an approval or license acquisition workflow, capture the userID of the requestor and allow for some user-defined form fields to be shown to the end user.

For example, let's say my end users wants Visio but this requires a puchase of an individual license before they can install it. The app portal should allow capture of some user-defined fields (office location, fiscal approver, etc.) and we should be able to pass this to an external…

  7. Deploy Package to Multiple Collections at one time

Allow packages to be deployed to multiple collections at one time. For instance I need AppX to go to Lab 1, Lab 2 and Lab4. Instead of going into AppX 3 different times to deploy, it would be nice to deploy it to all 3 labs at one time.

  8. Wake on LAN by maintenance window start time not deployment time

WOL packets are sent when a required deployment's time to install is hit. It would be nice if we could also set this to wake up machines by maintenance windows, or have a maintenance window that wakes up computers. What is the use of waking up a computer at the deployment start time of 7PM if the computer's maintenance window doesn't start until 10PM?

  9. Approval Requests Overhaul

The ability to add a note, and send a notification to the user if more information for their approval is required. Rather than denying it, and requiring them to re-submit, why not keep a single chain open?

Would also be nice if Approval instructions could be given for individual applications, informing the user the steps required for approval to be given. like submitting a ticket to a specific group, supplying approval from a manager.

  10. Application Catalog - Self Service Windows 10 Upgrade via Application Catalog.

We are testing the ability to add a Win 10 upgrade to the Application Catalog with success.

We are able to successfully publish the Win 10 upgrade as a standard Package and simply run Setup.Exe. This has worked and we have successfully updated systems in our Lab from Win 7 to Win 10 with this method. The user clicks "Install" from the App Cat and they are presented with the standard Win 10 setup screens.

We want to offer this as an option to our Engineers and Application developers that want to jump on to Win 10 for testing on…

  12. Add options to define "on fail" actions for package and application install

Similar to what is introduced in SP1 for patches, allow us to for example define "reboot and retry upon fail" for package and application installation.

This catches a lot of issues with installations already, as often a reboot is enough to then let the installation succeed.

  13. Deploy Software after initiate Shutdown

It would be nice if an Software Package is required in the Future to set a specific Time when a Software CAN be automatically installed ! E.g. : Deployment availability: NOW
Requirement Date of a Software Install: 5 Weeks
Recommended Date of a Software Install: 2 Weeks

If a Client Shutdown after the Date of Recommend Date of Software Deployment is reached SCCM have to install the Application/Update.

Lot of Customers doesn't like to reboot the PC if there is an important security issue or Preparing for a new Software Upgrade.

  14. Allow changing an application's scheduled time and available or required

With the application model we are no longer able to change the availability schedule or deadline after the application is created - or even expire it. The only way to stop a required application is to delete it, which purges the reporting data. We would like to see this changed so you are able change the deadline/avail time/or if the deployment is required or available.

  15. A Customizable Reboot/Postpone Prompt for Application and Software Updates Deployments

Basically would like something similar to the Windows Updates Reboot/Postpone nag prompt except with the ability to customize the notification text as applicable to the deployment.

For example:, as a sub-setting of the deployment type for the application you have the option to enable the reboot/postpone prompt and customize the notification text of the dialog box.

If the user that receives the prompt, postpones they will be re-prompted at the end of the postponement period until they either reboot or shutdown the system. (basically exactly the same behavior as the Windows Updates reboot/postpone prompt).

  16. add possibility to logoff user for Software Installation and prevent login during installation.

It would be great to have a possibility to create a deployment where the User would be logged off during the installation of Software. Useful for Software like Java Runtime or Adobe Pro where a running application can prevent the installation.
The User should be informed that an installation will be started and he will be logged off. The User should be not able to login during the installation.

  17. List all policy and deployment for single machine

I would like to see all the policies and deployment listed when i search for single machine, I see this in Altiris for example if i search for "pc-abcd" i should be able to tell how many applications are pushed to the machine or user.

  18. Install applications before users can press ctrl+alt+delete to login.

Add feature to deploy applications before users are allowed to logon at the ctrl+alt+delete screen. This would be a nice alternative to having to check for running processes before installing applications and would not interrupt users in their work.

  19. Allow an application to install interacively IF a user is logged on; otherwise install without interaction

Currently, in order to allow an application to have interaction, you need to select the option to install "Only when a user is logged on". It would be better if it allowed interaction if the user is logged on, but install without interaction if NO user is logged on. When running an MSI with /qb, you want interaction because the installer may need to prompt the user to close an application. However, if no user is logged on then it doesn't matter and interaction is not necessary.

  20. Browser plugins

If a plug in is needed for a webpage and it is not installed on the machine redirect the user to the Application Catalog instead of the vendor site. For example, user needs Flash, the page prompts the user to install Flash and directs them to the App Catalog. Do not know if this it technically possible but would be neat. Especially if it worked with all browsers.
