  1. Allow obscuring of all or portions of the SCCM installation command-line

I would like to see an option added to SCCM to allow obscuring portions of the installation command-line. This functionality would be particular useful for application installations like Microsoft SQL Server Express which accept an argument to the setup.exe specifying a clear text password.

The benefit of obscuring the password would be that the SCCM logs (i.e. appenforce.log) would not have a clear text version of the password which could be opened and read by any user having access to the c:\windows\ccm\logs folder.

  2. Package ID in Application list

Everytime I have an error in the "Distribution Point Configuration Status" I have to search for the "failed" application with the Package ID in the "Content Status". This works very slow! Please show the "Package ID" in the Appliaction List of the Console.

  3. User Device Affinity - Restrict One machine per User

    Hi,

I am using Application catalog for making the applications available for the users to install as and when they are in need of. By default, user can set more than one device as his primary device and any approved application can be installed on any/all of those machines.

While checking the available option to automatically install an app to users primary device (In case of OS reinstallation or Hardware refresh) using appcatalog, it gets installed on all primary devices.

It becomes difficult to manage this scenario since there are many licensed applications which will get installed on multiple machines.

  4. Place the client Version and Client status (Active or Inactive) in Software Center

Placing the clients version and status in Software center would help to see if the client is having issues (Active or Inactive) and also see if the version needs updating instead of going into the applet in control panel.

  5. Right click a package and goto the deployment report.

It would be great if we could right click a deployment in a package and it could take us to the monitoring > deployments report, instead of having to manually navigate to it by going to Monitoring > Deployments.

  6. Add predefined action (to task sequence or application/package) to copy files/folders to user workstation (as user OR as system)

Often whole software config is a single file. It is a pain to keep creating batch files for a simple copy action

  7. More robust control of system restart

Now we have only two parameters for Restart behavior: time to show the first warning and time to show the 'always on top' notification. It would be better if we can configure some user-controllable options. E.g. possibility to postpone a reboot.

  8. Enable/Disable Feature for Application Deployments

    Enable/Disable Feature for Application Deployments
When a Deployment is created, it is Enabled by default and there is no way to Disable it. In the current state, a Deployment could get created incorrectly, resulting in a large number of computers in the company getting rebooted, unwanted software or blue screens (if its something incompatible for that platform). In SCCM 2007 we got around this by creating a "Disabled" program for each Package, then after an Advertisement was QA'd, we would associate the "Enable" Program with the Advertisement. This option is not available in 2012. Seems like a pretty simple feature…

  9. Allow MSI Source locations to use DP's configured for HTTPS

I recently ran into an issue with an MSI that we have deployed which required access to its installation source during a patching operation, and discovered these two problems. We worked around the issue by pinning the content in the ccmcache.

On the application deployment properties, SCCM can automatically update the source location windows installer uses for a detected MSI product code. However, it appears that windows installer is unable to use https source locations, only http.

Another issue I have seen is that the windows installer source list gets appended (not replaced). As a client roams between content boundaries,…

  10. Allow deployments using application model to be installed from DP rather than downloaded to ccmcache folder

I have to create several very large (10GB and up) software deployments each year and install them for two thirds of the user base. Preferred method of delivery is install directly from the DP rather than download the installation files to C:\windows\ccmcache. It would be nice to do this using the application model so I can make use of the extended feature set it provides over the package model. I have to work around the limitations using convoluted wrapper scripts to get everything working properly.

  11. Application entries in console should be uniquely identified by more than just name

Currently, applications in the admin console are uniquely identified by the Name field only, forcing the use of custom names for each version of an application.

I propose that an application entry should be uniquely identified by multiple fields (Manufacturer, Name, and Version). This way, I can present the end user with a consistent name for an application without having to constantly revise support documentation.

    Example: Adobe Flash Player
I cannot have multiple entries for something called 'Flash Player', so I've been adding some versioning information to the Name field so it becomes unique as I deploy different versions through…

  12. Real time Graphical Icon Machine Status & Application Installation

It would be good if we have Graphical Icon status indication of Machines present on SCCM console i.e user login icon on machine which will turns green if a user is login & will display the login user name also , turns grey if machine is shutdown .
Also we should be able to deploy application on single machine also by drag & drop rather to do this by adding machine in collection & it should show the live status i.e In progress , Failed , Completed on that screen only rather to go to Monitoring tab & check status…

  13. Integrate Application Catalog Management Into Web Interface (Including approval automation options)

Yes we do this today with SCOrch and other tools, however, the self service aspect of the catalog has so much untapped potential in the product. Putting the management and automation into the web interface for administrators would make this so much easier/beneficial for the masses.

  14. Integrate a References tab on Application objects

Application objects should have a References tab that is identical in functionality to the References tab on Task Sequence objects.

The current References tab in an Application object's properties is very limited (Shows App dependencies, App Supersedence, and Virtual Environments).

  15. Application Catalog Requirements

It would be extremely useful for the application catalog to display the reason why the application cannot be installed in terms of requirements. The generic requirement failure message is confusing to users and overall is not meaningful. If the hard drive doesn't have enough space it should say there is not enough space. Not having a meaningful failure message generates extra help-desk tickets.

  16. Program

A workflow system (tab) for handling application/package errors (i.e non-zero return codes) for example; I should be able to config a setting of if the package/program gets an exit code of 1025 then handle it particular way or reboot try again 1 more time.

    Suggested options could be
    - Reboot device, try again 1 more time (great for 1025 errors)
    - E-mail support team X on X failure
    - Execute package 'PackageID/ProgramID' then attempt 1 more time (great for clean up scripts)
    - Add to collection X on Y error.

  17. Application Details

It would be good to have the following options in Application Tab on SCCM console:

    1) The "Size" tab as we have now for PACKAGES to check the actual size of it.
    2) The “Application ID” as we have for PACKAGES (packageID). Although we do see it under deployment tab but only if we deploy application to any collection. In case we only need to check the distribution status with any deployment being done, we have to go to content status tab and search with application name. This could be made handy as is done for Packages section.

  18. Add support for Status MIF reporting with Application Model

Packages/Programs in ConfigMgr support use of Status MIF reporting while the Application Model does not. Status MIFs can provide for more accurate and detailed status reporting, particularly for deployment execution failures. For this reason, some customers have been reluctant to transition to the Application Model.

The Application Model relies on exit codes for determine success/failure of deployments.
Disadvantages of depending on exit codes:

Success exit codes (0, 3010, etc.) do not always indicate successful installation; failure exit codes do not always indicate failure

Exit code 0 does not always indicate that the installation succeeded, but rather only that the installer…

  19. Create “master-applications” and download user specific settings as a deployment type.

I would like to see the option to have one deployment type as a base for all our customers and then add customer specific settings an other deployment type.

    Example 1:
Adobe Acrobat XI Pro would be the default deployment type and the MST-transform file, containing user customizations and license information, downloaded based on OU-Membership or some other variable and applied during the installation.
    Example 2:
Office 2013 ProPlus as the default deployment type and the “MSP”, containing user customizations and license information, downloaded based on OU-Membership or some other variable.

  20. Possibilty to have application catalog for server objects

It will be nice if a server admin, have the possiblity to choose an application from the application catalog to be installed for the server (including the approval process).
