  1. automatic phased deployment

Wait, wait hear me out. What if you could target a deployment to a single collection and ConfigMgr just thought up random groups of 20-30 machines at a time and made the deployment available to the next group after a specified period of time. Essentially creating an automatically built phases with no real requirements other than "x" amount of time has passed since the previous groups.

  2. Pre-install notifications & improvements to install behaviour

    Hello,

I would find it very useful if we had the ability to create a customisable pre-install message to customers for any application, package, software update or task sequence that is deployed to a client.

This would make it easier to provide pre-install instructions to customers such as making sure their device is connected to power, network cable or to close an application before the install continues. At the moment this is achieved by using a customisable HTA message but it's quite clunky.

It would also be useful to improve install behaviour and inplace upgrade checks which when they areā€¦

  3. Phased Deplyments for Available applications with supersedence

Phased deployments are great, but we have lots of users, with lots of applications that are nor required, but are superseded.

Say we have 100,000 users, 50'000 have an application installed that has an update. We don't want a required deployment as not everyone has the application, and we don't just want to deploy the update to the application to 50,000 in one go. so this feature would be nice.

  4. Resend application approval request email if in "Requested" status after x days

It would be nice if application approval request emails would resend if they are in the "requested" status after x amount of days as a reminder or if they email accidentally was deleted.

  5. Add the possibility to remove/delete and extract/export application package icon

Sometimes we pick a bad icon for the application package so we may want to remove it till theres a better one... or just want to reuse that icon because we dont have that source anymore or just arent able to find it and sometimes getting the correct icon is just crazy work (by that i mean the need to have the correct format or be able to hack the resources)

  6. User centric application deployment with dependencies requiring elevation

If we talk about modern management, we deploy applications to user collections. In that case detection method PowerShell scripts are executed in user context and not System. This behavior is inherited to dependencies, but the dependencies may require elevation.
E.g., if you want to deploy a Microsoft Store based Linux distribution via CM to users, you need to install the Microsoft Windows Subsystem Linux first. The detection for WSL in PowerShell is ā€œ(Get-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux).Stateā€, but it requires Elevation.
In you create an appx-based Linux Distribution application with the WSL application as Dependency it fails if it is deployedā€¦

  7. Update Notifications to Users for Application Approvals/Denials

Currently, when users request an application through the Software Center, it will generate an email (if setup) allowing helpdesk to approve or deny the request. That feature works great and I think it is a good step forward. However, when the request is approved, no notification is sent back to the user. They would have to manually check the software center to see if the approval went through or if the system is still online outside of their defined business hours, it will automatically install. This is a poor experience from our standpoint as users tend to not notice theseā€¦

  8. Application Post deployment feature

It would be beneficial to have a Post Installation feature for application deployment .
For example If Application A and B are required however application B can only be installed after Application A. Understand Dependency can be used to achieve this however in case of inplace upgrade of Office it is advisable to remove the previous versions and then install the new version .
A post installation feature can be useful for inplace office upgrade with all other products such as addins , Project visio can be post installed. This will considerably reduce the time for support
    Understand the workaroundā€¦

Just to make like easier, why not build in an MSI wrapper tool into the console.

  11. OS Build level requirement for deployment types

When making a new application, it would be helpful to have more granularity in the choices for Windows 10 so that we could target particular builds or set a minimum. If I want an application to install on 1809 but not 1803 or older, this would be where I would want to set that.

  12. Auto uninstall application based on Software Metering useage

Please add an option in the Application Model to auto uninstall the application after xx number of days. This could be linked to Software Metering. This would be extremely beneficial to manage applications for license reclamation as well as removing vulnerable applications from the environment.

  13. Dynamic Deadlines on Deployments

I would love to be able to configure deadlines that are based on how long a device/user has been in the collection. This way, the deployment will be "available" for, say 7 days, and then will become required. This would allow the use of 1 collection and deployment to be used over time.

  17. Defer/schedule install after application approval request is approved

Currently, if you deploy an application with "An administrator must approve a request for this application on the device" checked, and a user clicks the Request button for the application in Software Center, the application will begin installing immediately as soon as that request is approved.

I'd like to have the option to pop up a notification informing them that the request has been approved, with options to install now, remind later, or schedule the install for later.

  18. On demand app store for devices without user affinity

I am enrolling 3000+ iOS devices to Intune. These are shared devices as we are not a 1:1 deployment. Devices are enrolled without user affinity thus all apps are set to required in order to install. An on demand app store is a much needed feature as it would correct two problems.

First, it would lessen the need for end-users to contact admins to push an app to their device(s).

Second, a store could allow users to install apps on a single device without the need to create a group solely for that individual installation as is the present requirement.

  19. Let Software Version Become a Variable (For Detection Methods)

I always enter the software version number for each application I am patching (Adobe Reader/Acrobat, Chrome, Firefox, Java, etc).

I also use detection methods to determine that the new update has been installed. Is there any way the "Software Version" field I manually populate with the correct version can be a variable that can be used in the detection method MSI/File version field?

It would be great to let the detection method use %SOFTVERSION%, for instance, which points to the software version I am defining every time.

  20. Deployment Types - Installation Program Arguments

Keep the current single box for 'Installation Program' and ' Uninstall Program' under the 'Programs' tab in a deployment type... however allow admins to select 'granular' switches or arguments.

So in this option, the admin would have:
    A 'pre-program install' argument field.
    A 'program' field.
And a 'post-program install' argument field.

    The same for un-installations.

Additionally to this, I imagine the granular options will have a new window.
This windows should also have a 'explore program' button, which when clicked brings up the potential switches or arguments for EXE / MSI / MSIX / etc. Allowing users to select theā€¦
