  1. Program modernization

It would be nice if programs were modernized to have some of the same features as applications. This would include being able to launch a PowerShell script without extra parameters, sharing the same requirements tab and categories section, being able to use a custom icon in Software Center, and having Windows Source Management. Maybe it would be easier to just allow applications that don't use detection methods? They obviously wouldn't be able to be used as dependencies or have supersedence. Other than that I think it could work.

  2. Package creation empty Data Source (1706)

When creating a new package you can browse to the installation file (UNC-path). When done the package has no Data Source information. Therefore you have to browse by tab Data Source to the source location(folder) again.

In my opinion this is an unnecessary step. It should be very nice if this is solved.

  3. Automatically create software metering rules at application creation

Please create the software metering rules automatically when creating the app . With MSI this should be fairly easy and it could also allow the create the process detections automatically (feature1).

  4. Allow dependency to not run if parent is already detected

Add a checkbox to Deployment Type Dependency that will "Allow dependency to not run if the parent is already detected".

In other words, if the parent Application is deployed to a client, but the parent App Detection is already satisfied (it's already installed), do not install the dependency app if the option is checked.

This would be most useful in short-circuiting long dependency chains, where you don't need to install any prereqs for a dependency app because it is already installed.

  5. Support detection scripts larger than 32KB for applications

Can you increase the size for application script detection? There is currently a limit of 32KB for a PowerShell detection script. In a normal use-case a detection script would be 10 lines or less, but there are times when longer scripts can be necessary. My case in particular requires that I query device ID's on client computers. There can be thousands of unique device ID's that I may have to check, but this puts my script above the size limitation.

  6. add direct membership if app installed during TaskSequence (App Properties-General Information - Allow this application to be installed fro)

Add property into Application next to checkbox -> 'Allow this application to be installed from task sequence action without being deplyed.'

The new property can contain 'Collection name' to which will be made direct membership at the end of Task Sequence if the Appplication is successfuly installed during Task Sequence.

  7. The integration between APP-V and SCCM should leverage more of the APP-V scenarios of deployment.

Example: when deploying an APP-V package to a user collection as available via SCCM, the end user will have to go to the Application Catalog, look for the application and to install the APP-V package. The same scenario via APP-V will make the application available to the user in a shortcut at the start menu, when the user sees the shortcut and decides that is necessary to use that application, it simply click on the shortcut and the APP-V in the background makes the application available.
The scenario is more likely to have like a WSUS and SCCM integration, thatā€¦

  8. Add detection methods based on the absence of files or folders.

This option can be useful when you have two deployments that have almost the same detection methods, the same collection (or two collections containing the same computers) to target, and one of them replaces the other. Otherwise you have to mutliply collections or global conditions, which overload the server unnecessarily.

This also poses a reinstallation problem, the replaced application is systematically detected and uninstalled and its replacement is reinstalled at each application deployment evaluation cycle.

For example, the application A has for detection method "The file f1 exists" and the application B for for detection method "The file f1 andā€¦

  9. Volume Activation should be built into SCCM

Rather than having added tools like the Volume Activation Management Tool this should be built into SCCM.

  10. Option to tag production Packages (SU,Drivers, ...), Applications, TaskSequences

Provide an Option to tag Packages that are productive. This tag should make them read-only (until untagged) and maybe give the dialogues a different color. So all untagged packages would be in development and can be changed (this will also keep operations as is today if not used). On top it would be great to delegate that right (to set or unset that tag) using RBAC to dedicated release managers (away from the packaging team). Also tagging a task sequence and with that all reference packages would be great.
Copying such production packages should be possible to create new releaseā€¦

  11. Install MSP

To be able to install MSP file by them self using an App model, just like how there is an MSI one. Also to be able to add on a MSP or MST file when installing a MSI App model package.

  12. Add Priority Column to Applicaions and Packages

It think it would be helpful to include an optional column to display the Priority of an application or package. We schedule DP's for allow high priority only for business hours and occasionally need to override an application to High to force it to distribute.

Also when a new DP is brought online and added to the DP group it automatically starts distributing everything set to High so we have to go in and start changing things to Normal.

If we could add a Priority column to the view it would be easy to sort and find at a glanceā€¦

  13. Deploy apps with extra registry settings as a post action

In your app, have a tab that says "Tatoo these registry settings in with the install. Install finishes, blam the settings tattoo down.

  14. Support wake up clients via wireless networks (WoWLAN)

It would be great if ConfigMgr would support waking up clients which are connected to wireless networks and support wake on WLAN (WoWLAN) (in all scenarios where ConfigMgr todays supports already WoLAN). I heard rumors that this works already today (?) because the same kind of wake up packages are used by WoLAN and WoWLAN (?) but this scenario is at least still documented as unsupported, see

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/clients/deploy/plan/plan-wake-up-clients

I would appreciate a hint if this might work really already today. My customer would love to evaluate/use it today.

  16. user notifications - task sequences

Install behaviour and inplace upgrade task sequences user notifications could benefit with some improvements.

If users don't meet the set criteria, i.e. have the open application or don't meet the upgrade readiness check, the message to the user shows failure and reports as failure. This is not accurate, it should request the user close affected programs and if it doesn't meet the requirements for upgrade i.e. low disk space, not enough memory, it should display a user friendly message explaining the issue to the customer. A new category, failed readiness check should record this.

  17. merge source with update

Servicing mode of Any package or application that are created like
O365 Client to be patched or update thru an Software update that will modified the content (slipstream) with the latest version .
like this we can use into an TS or any new Advertisement with the correct source uptodate.
And spare bandwith and deployment time for be ready on User side (not creating an initial deployment that will be patched after by and Software update one) to achive the result of end user side to have the latest one.

  18. Allow a deadline time in which required application installs can be installed outside of maintenance windows

It would be nice to see an option where you can set an application deployment to run outside of the maintenance window after a specific amount of time has passed. Sometimes it is hard to catch laptops in a MW and I generally set myself a reminder to allow install outside of MW to workstation deployments after a few weeks have passed but it would be nice to see this as a feature as sometimes I forget and I am sure not the only one who would find it useful

  19. Allow for available applications to be made "persistent"

Currently, an "available" application installed through the Software Center, will not be re-installed if the detection method for that application fails (for whatever reason) in the future

There should be some way to set a "persistence" flag on an "Available" application such that it is similar to being "Required" after a successful install. The only way to make such an application not re-install is if the SCCM client removes it (whether pushed centrally, or by the user uninstalling from Software Center).

Why would you want this? For a Required application, a scripted detection method designed to compare the local versionā€¦

  20. Automate creation of Office 365 Application for new versions

Go 1 step further with the new Office Customisation Service shown a Ignite. Currently the service allows admins to create a new application installer for x version of Office. Automate this!

A common annoyance currently is that we have Office 365 packaged as an application in ConfigMgr. This application is apart of a Task Sequence to install Windows 10. At time of creation, the Office application is up to date. However, once the latest version of Office is released, this will result in the machine installing the old version during the TS, and then installing updates post build via whateverā€¦
