  1. Remove the need for App Catalog, by providing all functionality in Software Center

Currently, some functionality is only available in the application catalog, and not in software center. Make it so everything can be done in software center, so we can remove application catalog... and Silverlight... and local site security configurations.

    • Application Task Sequence

For complex software deployments, we regularly use Task Sequences to sequence reboots and installation orders, as well as containing logic on the various steps to only run when certain conditions are met. This allows for much more complex and flexible deployments.

The problem is, if a reboot step is initiated, no Task Sequence progress is displayed to the user to let them know that installations are taking place behind the scenes. To them, the reboot occurs and then they return to the CTRL+AT+DEL screen.

It would be great if a new class of Task Sequence could be created that would…

      • Allow required deployments to be uninstalled

We typically want our users to receive new software without action on their part, so required deployments generally make sense. However, this prevents users from being able to uninstall software (without the app eval cycle putting it back) unless CM administrators are involved.

Having an option allowing required deployments to essentially transform into available deployments if the user clicks the Uninstall button in Software Center would be useful to us since we could satisfy the requirement of delivering software without end user action and also allow end users to uninstall unneeded software.

        • Provide the ability to set an "expiration date" on a DEPLOYMENT

Even thought Applications are state based there are still use cases when a deployment could be expired so that no future deployments of that application will occur. Either an expiration or the use of automatically disabling the deployment, since Software Updates could be disabled so should Software Application Deployments. The reason to keep the deployment would be for reporting so a way to disable or expire would be ideal if state based is not needed.

The sms_applicationassignment WMI class exposes an ExpirationTime property which actually removes deployments from App Catalog but it does not work with software center.

          • App Model Optional User deployment behavior

App Model - Optional User Deployment - When user policy is recieved, perform app eval to check if app is installed, if so show as installed in Software Center. (Currently it doesn't evaluate and shows option to install even if already present. When you click the install button... it then performs the evaluation and changes to installed and provides the uninstall button. This is confusing to our end users)

            • Enable configuration of deadline randomization per-deployment

Currently, deadline randomization is a client setting that applies to all deployments targeted to systems; however, there are many cases where selectively enabling or disabling deadline randomization would be ideal. For example, many customers disable deadline randomization because it affects application deployments (which are often deployed to a subset of systems and impacts user communications/expectations/predictability about deployment timing), even though they see benefits of enabling it particularly for software updates (which are often deployed to most systems). Deadline randomization can significantly reduce the resource demand on the ConfigMgr infrastructure when deploying several software updates to many systems. Having deadline randomization…

              • Application Groups

Today many use Task Sequence to deploy set of applications and packages to computers in order to have control over install order, convenience of everything installing at same time and the name will show up on computer (example: HR applications).
It would be good with a new feature (I call it Application Groups) where we can add application and packages and on the console + client side (Software Center) you will see for example "HR applications" and the software that it will install with status for individual applications/packages part of the group.
Same control as TS with install order. Ability…

                • Have the ability to pre-deploy an available application on a user’s primary device.

Today in the application model you can only pre-deploy a required deployment of an application on the users’ primary device but this has 2 drawbacks:
                  • Required means that the user doesn’t have the means to uninstall the application and potentially repair the application (uninstall+install).
                  • Required means also that when the user logs on to another machine, maybe just to consult a web page, the required applications also get installed unless the global condition primary device equals true was set.
This is all about provisioning a new machine for a user. Of course there are always common applications, like…

                  • Fix (!) Task Sequence "Rerun if failed previous attempt" behaviour when deploying as Required

When deploying a task sequence as required it doesn't retry until you deploy it again. Why doesn't it try again at next cycle, like a required application does?
We have several TS's that install large applications, autocad etc, and sometimes they fail on clients. If I correct the TS or correct the issue on the client there is no possible way to rerun it without re-deploying it, making the "Rerun if failed previous attempt" absolutely pointless and to be more like "Do nothing and stay failed forever".

                    • Active Setup Integration - Wizard / GUI

Some (MSI) applications (e.g. usually CAD software) will be configured via HKCU Registry hive, files in %appdata% or another files in user paths.
It would be nice if a new user logs on (e.g. after OSD), these settings takes place automatically.
This can already be done rudimentary via Active Setup, but not really comfortable (e.g. you have to do logging by yourself, no out of the box feedback in case of success / errors, etc).
Please integrate Active Setup or a new fully solution for that cases as a GUI / Wizard in Application Management.

                      • Ability to install packages from NuGet/PackageManagement/PowerShellGet feed

Ability to install packages from NuGet/PackageManagement/PowerShellGet feed. This will allow managing on-premise/cloud based infra using a NuGet feed like myget.org, TeamCity, OctopusDeploy and a DevOps type workflow.

                        • Enhance Phased Deployment for Applications

TL;DR: Make Phased Deployments for Applications the same as Phased Deployments for Task Sequences where you can create up to 10 phases and manually initiate the second phase of deployment.

                          Explanation:
Currently in 1806 although you can create a phased deployment for an Application, you're limited in two key areas:

                          1) You cannot manually create phases for an application
                          2) You cannot manually begin the second phase of deployment for an application
                          3) You are limited to 2 phases for an application

In our environment we follow a controlled graceful deployment process where an Application Model application is deployed office-by-office…

Applications can have a custom icon set for them. Applications listed in the SCCM Admin Console have an "icon", but it's the same generic one for every application. Would love to see the icon I set in admin console next to each app for easy identification.

                              • Variable for the package cache path

It would be great to have a variable you can use in the Installation/Uninstallation Program, for use with installations that need a full path for an answer file. Like an InstallShield iss file.
I have a great deal of other installers that have their own answer files and most need a full path for the file.
So instead of having a full path for a network share it would be great to be able to use a variable that have the path for the local cache for the application. E.g. C:\Windows\ccmcache\2n
I have tried %CD%, which works in the command…

                                • Application deletation without Task Sequence link depency

I would love to be able to delete Application, without first have to remove it from Task Sequence. You can do this with packages and with driver packages, but not with Applications, why?

The practical challenge here is, that we keep saving our old TS as backup, and this way same App is added to multiple Tasks. It´s hard to go all them through and delete one app.

                                  • Application Model - Fast Retry interval

By default Fast rety interval is 2 hours. There is no option to change this setting. We would like have option to change this internval.

Note in Pacakage model we have option to change this setting through site control file

                                    • App-V 5 Deployment Type publishing option

App-V 5 Deployment Type should have the option per-deployment type of how the App-V 5 package is installed (per-machine, per-user or determined by target)

                                      Allow for this would offer;
                                      1. Consistency of options between deployment types (same as for MSI..)
                                      2. Ensuring a consistent application deployment which will ease admin management (decrease management overhead when removing the application as a sample)
                                      3. Allow to control deployment type based on end-point, not target collection.
                                      4. By allowing admins to set per-machine publishing a fully functional application can be ensured, which would leverage all integration points (not possible when using per-user publishing).

                                      • Allow to skip maintenance window for superseded appliciations made available to user collections

Currently when a superseding application is deployed to a user collection I can enable the option "Automatically upgrade any superseded versions of this application". With this option set I'm able to specify a scheduling for the deployment. But the option to allow the installation or maybe the system restart outside the maintenance windows is greyed out.

Would be nice to have the option to skip the maintenance windows for this type of deployment as well.

                                        • Fix 'CI Version Info Timed Out' error

My applications are successfully installing on client devices however the Console is showing an error for the deployment in the monitoring section. The only description of the error is 'CI Version Info Timed Out'. I have tried all the workarounds found online.
                                          - Deleting and recreating a package to reset the revision number
                                          - Deleting deployment and recreating deployment
                                          - Updating collection and redistributing content

Nothing works permanently the errors come right back
