  1. Wrong OS version when capturing Windows 10 LTSB 1607 (with current patch)

We detected a little bug in the capture process:

When capturing a Windows 10 LTSB 1607 system and creating an OS image with the captured WIM in the ConfigMgr console, a wrong OS Version is reported. The installed OS shows e.g. 14393.2430 (August) or 14393.2485 (September) as OS version, but the captured WIM in both cases 14393.2214. I assume the capture process calculates a "wrong" OS version, producing at least a misleading result. We recognized this with the OS version mentioned above, but this might be a general problem.

It would be interesting to know if this is indeed a…

    • Download Package Content - Move instead of Copy and Delete

When utilizing the "Download Package Content" TS step and choosing to download to "Configuration Manager client cache", the data is first downloaded to the temporary folder _smstasksequence. After that the data is copied to the Client Cache folder (%windir%\ccmcache) and as a last step the data is removed from the _smstasksequence folder.
This process means that before the data in _smstasksequence is deleted, 2 copies of all data reside on the disk.
This results in the need for extra free space (2x the data) for the running TS.
A move instead of copy and delete might be a better option.

      • Ability to specify the keyboard layout in the Boot Images properties

I know we can use the DISM command to set the input locale but from my point of view it should exist a field in the Boot Image properties where you could specify the layout you want.

        • Intuitive User State Migration and the ability to capture and restore automatically.

It would be great to have the ability to customize the USMT without being burdened with XML configuration. Although this could remain as an option being able to restrict themes from migrated and restrict pulling over the registry would be great. Sometimes with the registry you can often pull problems over with the migration.

          • Need a feature to install and enable Unifed write filter along with ConfigMgr task sequence

We have an OS image with Unifed write filter feature enabled and after Setup Windows and ConfigMgr step, we use commands to enable write filter along with the reboot step. Right after the task seqeunce completes, the client machines reboots and now its write filter enabled machine. when it downloads the machine policy now, SCCM remote control is not working.

As a workaround, we used SMSTSPostAction variable to reboot the client machine 30 minutes after task seqeunce completes. 30 minutes time would let the client machine to download all the machine policy before the client machine reboot. After the reboot…

            • Add task sequence auditing

The inability to know exactly what changes were made (and by whom) in a task sequence is a significant pain point. Something close what AGPM provides for group policies would be ideal, but even basic auditing capabilities as a starting point would help tremendously.

              • Allow applications with OU requirements to install in OSD

Currently, during OSD, application deployment types that require a machine to be part of an OU (or sub OUs) will not install. I realize that in windows this is handled by the registry rather than an AD query.

                • Import computer information automaticlaly update All Systems

After importing a computer it takes about 5 minutes until it appears in the desired collection. For some customers this leads to unnecessary confusion. The reason is as far as I can tell that the computer doesn't even appear in All Systems. If you execute an update membership on All Systems, the computer immediately arrives in the desired collection.
I would like to suggest the following change: After importing a computer, All Systems should be updated immediately.

                  • Standalone Media (FAT32 & NTFS)

Create standalone media for a partitioned USB with a FAT32 and NTFS partition. The FAT32 partition holds the WinPE boot, the NTFS partition the rest - allowing WIMs and other items over 4GB.

                    • Create Semi-Standalone Media

To be used where there is a poor network, but not totally offline. The idea being to save the majority overhead of downloading, but still allow the TS steps that require network communication.

                      • Built-in step in a task sequence to Auto login as a domain or workstation user

We have the need to customize the desktop, deploy some user specific apps, as well as setup and configure Outlook and OneDrive. It would be nice to have the ability to have the system automatically log in as the user, provided we have their credentials, so that custom scripts can continue after the task sequence finishes. This is especially true for new hires as we do have their passwords and we make them change it once we turn over the system to them.

                        • Allow converting AD Discovered computer objects DDR to full objects

                          Bare metal deployment.
I would like to pre-stage object in AD with all its required group membership/correct OU location, so when the object is discovered & pulled to SCCM, I can convert it from DDR with resourceid starting with 20something (10 digits) to normal object with resourceid starting with 16something (8 digits) so I can do OSD with installation of Applications based on collections (that are in turn AD OU/group membership based).
Now I have to create objects in both AD & SCCM at the same time and STILL the useless DDR gets created anyway, which must be later deleted…

                          • Task sequences have folders that mirror the structure in the console when booting from PXE

It would be nice for the task sequences to be listed in folders within the PXE environment when you have a lot of task sequences. You can put the task sequences in folders in the console but this is not mirrored across.

                            • Task Sequence Break Points for Debugging

It would be beneficial if you could set breakpoints at any line item in the task sequence, just like when coding, to stop the task sequence progress. Have a dialog pop up with which you can continue to the next break point.

                              • Integrate Task Sequence Versioning with GIT

For large enterprises such as the one I work in govt Education, it would be very beneficial for integrating version control via GIT. Every time you check in a new version is saved to GIT.

Then you can review changes (could be xml or some other format) in GIT, and potentially revert to an older version if the changes are not approved.

                                  • Fix Application Supercedence in Task Sequence during OSD

Application A and Application B. Application B supersedes Application A. The content is removed off the DPs for Application A.. A task sequence (non-OSD TS) deployment of Application B fails with "The software could not be found on any servers at this time." After reading the logs, it is looking for Application A. BUT a regular application deployment Application B, it works fine, so this issue is ONLY occurring in TS.

                                      • Ability to remove store apps from Windows 10 feature upgrades/servicing plans

When using the "Servicing Plan" feature to deploy feature upgrades, all generic windows 10 store apps are re-installed.

Add the ability either remove store apps from Windows 10 feature upgrades/servicing plans or at least control which windows 10 apps are included in the feature pack upgrades.

Having to use OSD task sequences to control these built-in apps and apply the feature upgrades is tedious.

Is there a gap in the functionality you’re seeing or something else – let us know, we’d like to address your ask and help you with deploying Windows 10.
