  1. Task sequence step for S5 reboot (bypassing hyberboot)

Please add a task sequence step to trigger a full S5 reboot bypassing windows 10 hybrid sleep. This is required for bios updates for Lenovo computers dans requires very ugly hacks to keep the TS from exiting.

  2. Integrate git into the Task Sequence for script execution

Can we please have native git integration in an OSD task sequence for script execution? This would provide version and branch control when running scripts during an OSD task sequence

    e.g.

    1. Connect to a repo in GitHub
    2. Download scripts as a zip file
    3. Extract scripts and then execute

It would be good to select a specific branch as well (e.g. develop) so you can test script changes prior to merging to master

  3. Pre-Download option on Task Sequence with <Download Package Content>: Adhere to conditions defined on the individual TS step(s).

Instead of pre-downloading all package content when pre-downloading a TS with multiple <Download Package Content> steps, make sure the client only pre-downloads the content if the condition set on the individual TS step is evaluated to be <true>.
E.g. If Model X, I do not want to (pre-) download drivers for model Y, as this step would be skipped later-on anyway, when actually running the Upgrade TS.

PS. This extra "intelligence" would also be helpful on nested TS steps. Now the pre-download setting downloads all referenced content - for all <Download Package Content> steps - from the main TS itself,ā€¦

    Updating status to Noted.

Our 1904 Techincla preview added pre-cache (pre-download) support for OS Images and Driver Packages. SWD Packages are coming soon.

    Doc: https://docs.microsoft.com/sccm/core/get-started/2019/technical-preview-1904
    Blog: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Configuration-Manager-Blog/Evaluate-Office-add-in-and-macro-readiness-in-ConfigMgr/ba-p/501758

The pre-cache intelligence is in ExecMgr and works off the package properties (language, architecture, driver model).

Reading your ask I think the pre-cache improvements address your ask. I’ll merge your idea with this item https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/32583652-task-sequence-pre-cache-for-all-packages-inside

If that doesn’t address your ask, let me know. Thanks

  5. Add W32Tm.exe to SCCM Boot Media

When in WinPE or during initial WinPE stages of a task sequence, there is no suitable way to set or synchronise the time against another device, whether this be an SCCM server, a domain or a dedicated NTP appliance.

This is an issue in a number of cases, such as when trying to PXE boot a device, when trying to communicate with the SCCM server for policies and simply creating complete and chronologically ordered logs.

Evidently, the SCCM team already know that a time synchronisation is important, as it is literally the first step after the device has joined aā€¦

  6. Enable Task Sequences to automate an existing OEM/Reset image (from OOBE)

Part of the big push for modern management, and solutions such as AutoPilot, is so that you "don't need to spend time replacing a perfectly good OS that is already on the device". Especially when dealing with clean devices such as Surface, this makes complete sense... except in cases where AutoPilot and Intune aren't used or cannot be used.

My suggestion is: Let's create an option for a PXE-enabled Task Sequence to run, and essentially perform the automation of the existing OOBE, by essentially bypassing the partitioning and WIM application steps. That way, much like the selling points for modernā€¦

  7. ConfigMgr console shows incorrect image version (OS Version) at Operating System Images

On previous Windows 10 builds updates installed on RTM fresh machine was tend to change ServicePackMajor field, in contrast on later releases like RS4 installed updates incrementing ServicePackMinor

Both Windows 10RS4 RTM(ServicePackMinor=0) and Windows 10RS4 with installed updates (ServicePackMinor=320) will still have 10.0.17134.1 representation if it is constructed using
    MajorVersion. MinorVersion. BuildNumber. ServicePackMajor pattern
Is it possible that latest SCCM builds will display the ServicePackMinor number too at the image properties?

  8. Support automatic deployment of Surface Bootable Media Recovery (BMR) images

Here's a crazy idea, can we get "Operating Systems" option for "Operating System Recovery Media", that perhaps could ingest the likes of the Surface Bootable Media Recovery (BMR) images? We have over 1,800 Surface devices, and each time we want to play with AutoPilot, the OOBE, or to decommission the devices in order to dispose of them, we need to manually perform this reset via the BMR images on USB keys... and it takes forever.

Why don't we use the "Restore from cloud" option?
Because we have a transparent proxy that provides authenticated Internet access, and creating a connection beforeā€¦

  9. Find and Replace \ Package Swap in Task Sequence

Allow the ability to right click on a Reference in a Task Sequence and change the package for a different one ( For example changing all of the 'Use Toolkit Packages' or 'Gather' steps in one go). This would be helpful when revving packages or applications that are referenced multiple times in a task sequence.

  12. Allow OS Upgrade and Custom Task Sequences to queue status messages during offline execution

When OS Upgrade and Custom task sequences are running offline (such as following a reboot while on VPN) all task sequence manager status messages are discarded. While this is expected in WindowsPE, it would be beneficial for troubleshooting/reporting if OS Upgrade and Custom task sequences would queue status messages locally just like Executive Manager does with software installation status.

  14. Full Task Sequence support through Cloud Management Gateway

Please add full Task sequence support in CMG. I have many software titles that require Task sequence vs app/package to deploy successfully so I am "stuck" on IBCM.

Support for Windows 10 Feature Update TS was added in 1802 per https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/32436910-task-sequence-deployment-through-cloud-management and is in the docs at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/clients/manage/cmg/plan-cloud-management-gateway however other TS scenarious is not supported.

  15. Upgrade Operating System Built-in Step: Add Option to Keep Files Only

Customer does not have the store installed and using the built-in TS step keeps files and apps. I know that the "OSDSetupAdditionalUpgradeOptions" variable can be used, but it would be nice to have the option on the built-in TS step.

    Thanks for responding.

We cannot provide a different migration options for the reasons I outlined below. Anything other than ‘Applications, Data and Settings’ will leave the machine unmanaged – while we developed the new upgrade step we tested them all.

I’ll see if I can source steps for reinstalling the Store without having to complete a restore.

  16. Reboot during Inplace Upgrade TS breaks the Processing

If for some reason the machine is rebooted while the Inplace Upgrade is running (ModernHostSetup.exe), the task sequence is not picked up again and stays for ever in "on progress".
The TS should detect an unwanted reboot and retry/proceed as it is possible to select with Updates.

  17. Implement a "Suspend Task Sequence" Step in OSD like the LTISuspend.wsf script in MDT

During a build and capture task sequence, it can be necessary to suspend the build so that one can run some application installs, make customization's, etc. These customization's can require reboots, which kill the task sequence. Please implement a solution similar to the LTISuspend.wsf script in MDT, where you can run the step and it creates a shortcut on the desktop to resume the task sequence.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestion – updating status to started. See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/understand/find-help#send-a-suggestion

The ability to set task sequence breakpoints for debugging and suspend is added in our 1905 Technical Preview. For now, this is only present in WinPE, we’re working on extending to Full OS which meets your ask.

    Doc: https://docs.microsoft.com/sccm/core/get-started/2019/technical-preview-1905
    Blog: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Configuration-Manager-Blog/Group-applications-into-a-single-deployment-in-ConfigMgr/ba-p/624318

Please note, we may merge this ask with the larger task sequence troubleshooting item in the future – https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492/suggestions/13880796

  18. Remove the need for elevated privileges to create task sequence media.

Currently, the console requires elevation to generate task sequence media. It'd be nice if it didn't.

Related, is there any documentation as to the whys?

  19. Run Powershell Script (Task Sequence Step) passed parameters not visible in logging

When parameters are provided on a 'Run Powershell Script' in a task sequence, the SMSTS.log only logs the name of the script. It does not log the full command (including parameters) that are invoked.

For example: if I call Java.ps1 with parameters -level 1 -language eng the SMSTS.log only shows...

Running powershell script: 'Java.ps1'(PkgID: SCM00000) with execution policy 'Bypass'

This would be helpful in troubleshooting what parameters were actually passed to the script that is executing. Otherwise you have to track down the task sequence and assume everything entered is passed and run. Or you have to build your PS1ā€¦

  20. Software udpates for workgroup machines doesn't work during build and capture.

Software updates for workgroup machines doesn't work during build and capture. Panu says it works if you domain join; and then patch; and then leave the domain... but doesn't work if you are workgroup machine one.
