  1. More characters in the OSD Task Sequence description

I would like more space in the OSD Task Sequence description field (and possibly even include a link) so that we can adequately tell people what's required before and after running the Task Sequence and to tell them where to find help.

At the moment, we only have 2-3 lines of text available.

Perhaps replicate what's currently available in the application model with the Localised description on the Application catalog tab.

  2. Extra Information about members of collection about required deployments(especially in task sequence)

When a tasksequence is deployed as required, especially for operating system deployment, the summary screen shows the collection name and the members count.
This step is very error prone and dangerous in case wrong collection is selected.
There should be an extra screen before required os depyment task sequence, which shows the collection name and all the members of the collection. Thus, the user will be aware about the error if it makes before.
an extra security step will be very useful.

PS: many companies lived this scenario with formatted computers mistakenly :(

  3. OSD Deployment List Variables

I believe that SCCM should have a means of adding a list of selectable values in the Task Sequence for OSD's. That is to say I add a Variable for "Department" this should then present during a deployment several options to choose from such as "Sales", "HR" or "ICT" So on and so forth. I would then be able to define custom actions dependent on the value of the "Department" Variable.

It would be nice if this would work via PXE or Via External Media. I would love to hear feedback and would definitely love to see Microsoft pick thisā€¦

  4. Enable Download Package Content step for stand-alone media

The Download Package Content step fails when used in stand-alone media. However, during media creation, the package content specified in the Download Package Content step does get added. Despite this, the step still fails.

  5. Improve Task Sequence selection, hide testing task sequences, user based policy availability

we have 10 Task Sequences accross 10 countries, and 10 test task sequences that show up in the same list. It would be nice to be able to easily hide deployments that are only for testing, and not production. If at the beginning of a T.S. , user domain credentials could be entered, and that would determine T.S. availability. Or they could be greyed out if not to be run by that user.

  6. Task Sequence Media - Bootable but with content

Allow adding content for a task sequence to a media that works like the Bootable media, if content is local and up2date use that otherwise pull from DP.

And if this content would be stored on the media but outside the .wim file, it would not increase load time for WinPE and maybe even allow updates of single items instead of rebuild entire media to include small changes to content

  7. Windows 10 Servicing Dashboard - Windoiws 10 Usage Identification

Please address why are Windows 10 1607 CBB versions are represented as "Other" and CB versions show as "Windows 10, version 1607" under the Windows 10 Usage graphic.

  8. Remove from Collection / Move to Collection in OSD

Sometimes it might be handy to remove a computer from the OSD collection as a final step during the task sequence. Or additionally add the computer to additional collection(s) for for example extra software deployment or another task sequence.
Now scripts need to be created therefore and in my experience this doesn't always work well.
A predefined step where the collectionname or collectionID needs to be added to add (or remove) the computer to (or from) would be much appreciated.

  9. Keep previous version(s) of packages

Everyone has had the issue where a package isn't available during OSD. If we had a setting that enabled us to keep a copy of the previous versions this could eliminate that issue. I think it should be a setting with the number of previous versions that you want by default. And if there are scenarios where a package is updated frequently you should be able to override the setting on that package.

  10. Schedule Updates Wizard: 'Date Released' field should sort by date, not numerically

Right now if I go into Software Library > Operating Systems > OS Images > Schedule updates to update my Windows 10 wims with the latest cumulative update (sorted by date released ascending, the dates go 10/x/16 -> 11/x/16 -> 12/x/16 -> 4/x/15->5/x/15->.... So it's sorting them numerically 1-9 instead of December, Nov, Oct as (12, 11, 10) or vice for the latest update releases in the end-year months.

Thanks for the feedback. We include CMTrace.exe in the boot images so logs can be read in WinPE, that tool is part of the SCCM Toolkit and can also be found on the site server under \OSD\Bin\\CMTrace.exe

For OS Deployment logs there’s a section here which helps – https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh427342.aspx – the main OS Deployment log is SMSTS.log

We have an open item for improving logging, copy logs etc – I’ll add your feedback to that item.

  12. SCCM Console UI: Merge task sequence properties into Edit

It would make sense to merge task sequence properties into Edit.
Also you can't view both at once right now

Hi. Prior to 1610 we ‘sysprepped’ the Client removing Certs, TRK etc. In 1610 we have changed to remove the client completely – see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/plan-design/changes/whats-new-in-version-1610 for What’s New in 1610

See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/osd/understand/task-sequence-steps#BKMK_PrepareConfigMgrClientforCapture for detail on the changes in the task sequence Prepare ConfigMgr Client for Capture step

Where you have issues with the client not being fully removed in SCCM 2012. If so can you elaborate on what they were and also let us know if the changes for removing the client address your issues.

  14. Fix Task Sequence refresh after vieing content status

In the SCCM Console (doesn't matter what version, I'm using 1511), If a task sequence is under a folder, and if you select View Content Status from the Reference tab, it will take you to there, BUT if you go back to the task sequence or click the back button, all task sequences are gone until. If you try to hit F5 or refresh, you will receive and error: "The requested object could not be retrieved..."

  15. Allow Task Sequence Editor to retain the window size from the previous session.

The default window is too small to see the window pane contents properly. It always needs to be enlarged. Either make it larger as a default or allow the user to set the size and retain it across sessions.

  16. Add the ability to compare two task sequences

Compare the contents of two task sequences and report on the differences. Ignore minor items unique to each Task Sequence like dates and ID codes .

  17. windows 10 upgrade servicing

Support SUP/ESD/WSUS/update-based packages via the "Upgrade Operating System" task sequence step so that task sequence-driven upgrades can benefit from the smaller size of the ESD files (2.5GB) compared to the full media used today (3.5GB).

  18. Add TFPBlockSize and TFTPWindowsSize to the DP configuration page in the Admin Console

It would great to be able to configure TFTPBlocksize and TFTPWindowsSize on PXE-enabled DPs from the Configuraiton Manager console, and not having to edit the registry or to use Configuration Item/Baseline to do this. An option on the PXE tab in the Distribution Point properties please?!

  19. Add email capability to OSD Task Sequence

It would be really nice if we could add email functionality to an OSD Task Sequence. Currently we have to call all of our techs and make sure nobody is imaging before we can make any changes. If we could be notified when a TS begins and ends then it would make it much easier to manage things remotely.

Updating status to Noted. Thanks for the feedback, we have a similar item in our Database. The goal was a task sequence step that could notify a user or technician on completion or error. Another case was to pair with Windows 10 Upgrade – allow setup.exe to run silently with /Compat then send an e-mail notifying the user or admin that the machine is ready to upgrade.

  20. Dynamic application and package deployment for prestage media

We are trying to use prestage media to deploy images to machines on sites with little bandwidth, but still with a network connection to the corporate network.

We have a large number of sites and our current online build uses an MDT database with Roles and Make / Model configurations for a large number of sites and hardware types.

Within each of these, we have a number of packages and applications which are installed depending on the site / model required.

This all works fine for an online build, however when using prestage media, even if we include the packagesā€¦
