  1. Add TS Step to Join or Leave AD-Group

I would like to be able to join Computer Objects to certain AD groups or remove them (once the OSD has sucessfully completed).

  2. Nested Task Sequence Variable

Now that we have nested task sequences, the next logical step seems to be to add the ability to have a step in the master task sequence to nest a task sequence based on a variable instead of a statically chosen TS. See the same type of step for applications and packages.

In our environment, this ability would be the last feature required to make a truly dynamic and ZTE for our IT Operations users.

  3. Supported Move OU step in task Sequence

A supported step to reassign a OU in a task sequence instead of having to rely on vbscripts or powershell scripts to perform this function. Seems this could be based off the network settings step easy.

  4. OSD - Domain Recovery

This was a great feature in MDT. If domain join fails initially, this can be used to launch a GUI informing the user or technician that the domain join failed and instructions on how to remediate this before deployment continues.

  5. Add variable for controlling smsts log files

Today, sccm will retain two copies of a task sequence log at most, and then truncate them when they reach a certain length.

It's possible to customize this but you need to bake a file into your boot wim image. This capability should be moved into the task sequence as a new variable.

    Call it smstsnumberoflogs and SMSTSLOGROLLOVELENGTH.

finally, zti_copylogs should be amended to copy all smsts log files, not just the first two, as it's written today.

  6. Run Task Sequence with local administrator account context for B&C scenario

in MDT OSD the task sequence runs with local admin context. that's why B&C are more easy in MDT because we can modify the admin user's shortcuts, pinned items, registry keys, etc... and then capture it with using the <CopyProfile> tag in the unattend.xml and have the settings copied to the default profile.
It will have a huge impact to be able to do the same in SCCM OSD without custom scripting on the default profile that some of them aren't possible without <CopyProfile>.

  7. Task Sequence Step to Add Info to SMSTS.log

I'd love to see a built-in step to add information to the SMSTS.log. Basically just a single-line text field that would parse TSVariables just like any other step that has text fields.

    This would allow:
    1. Easy way to dump a specific TS variable value at a specific point in time to the log for troubleshooting.
    2. A potentially easier way to search the SMSTS.log file for a specific point in the task sequence. While you can search for task name, there are many entries that contain the task name - you could make the content of the step uniqueā€¦

  8. Add support to Cloud Distribution Point for dynamically defined content

Add the support for dynamically defined content in an OSD task sequence to Cloud Distribution point. Today in an on-prem environment you can use OSDDownloadContent.exe to pre-cache or download driver packages, BIOS packages and other items that are machine specific.

However this functionality is not available on Cloud Gateway/Cloud DP. The sequence will execute but support for Dynamic Variables Task Sequences so we can modify the packageID in sequence and then then trigger the OSDDownloadDownloadPackages command to download that content while the sequence is running is not.

Back in 2018 Tweeted about this https://twitter.com/PaulEAndrews/status/1030155355236560897.

  9. Administration service URL Task Sequence variable

With the new great possibilites using the Administration Service it would be great to have a Built In task sequence variable with the URL to the SMS Provider(s) so we can easily call that in our OSD Powershell scripts during OSD

  10. Ability to select drive for _SMSTaskSequence during format task in OSD

We have seen that SMSTaskSequence is created on a not preferred drive and sometime it have failed to complete as when the OSD reboots into the deployed OS the SMSTaskSequence is on a drive that is not mounted anymore.
It would be good to see an option during the format drive task to set where the folder should be placed so it can be forced to for example C: drive.

  11. Add email capability to OSD Task Sequence

It would be really nice if we could add email functionality to an OSD Task Sequence. Currently we have to call all of our techs and make sure nobody is imaging before we can make any changes. If we could be notified when a TS begins and ends then it would make it much easier to manage things remotely.

Updating status to Noted. Thanks for the feedback, we have a similar item in our Database. The goal was a task sequence step that could notify a user or technician on completion or error. Another case was to pair with Windows 10 Upgrade – allow setup.exe to run silently with /Compat then send an e-mail notifying the user or admin that the machine is ready to upgrade.

  12. Allow entering XML data within task sequence apply OS step

Allow you to be able to paste in an unattend.xml file directly into the Apply Operating System Image task sequence step instead of having to use a package. Similar to how you can add a PowerShell script directly in to the task sequence step in SCCM 1902.

  13. Add Application revision validation to task sequence

Currently when viewing applications in a task sequence the revision number is not displayed or validated.

If an Application revision is deleted the task sequence will keep trying to deploy the deleted version until it is removed and added with the latest revision.

Having it displayed in a column or validated when opening the task sequence would help reduce time spent troubleshooting this problem.

  14. I would like OSD standalone media that allows access to the SMP on the network. I guess this would be more of a hybrid media.

I basically want to be able to create standalone OSD media that allows me to backup/restore users files and settings to our State Migration Point. The standalone media now only allows for the hard link option when using USMT. If there was a way possible to maybe create some kind of USMT wizard in the task sequence on the standalone media that would allow me to move the users files and settings to a USB drive or SMP that would be really useful.

  15. TS: Fix "Apply Network Settings"

The function "Apply Network Settings" doesn't work well.

    Problem 1:
We have a multi forest environment and around 10 different domains to join. Therefore, I add 10 different "Apply Network Settings" to my task sequence with 10 different conditions (if conditions are true -> TS variable ā€œOSDDomainToJoinā€ equals 222).

Each ā€œApply Network Settingsā€ has the join to domain settings including the OU. The correct account to perform a domain join and different Network Settings (DNS Suffix of each domain).

    What says the log:
Apply Network Settings - Domain 111
    -> Skipped the action
Apply Network Settings - Domain 222
    ->ā€¦

  16. Custom TS Progress UI

We currently have possibility to create our custom UI-s using scripts. Would be great to have a possibility to choose, if you want to use native progress UI, or create custom one in TS properties for example. So every time native Progress UI would be shown, it would show custom UI instead. Current way to use custom scripts has a small drawback: to start it, you have to use task sequence step. Which means, if some step restarts computer(not task sequence restart steps), you have to wait until next step, until you can start your own custom UI again.

  17. Create multiple copies of task sequence media

There should be an option asking how many copies you want to create. When the first copy is created, the user should be prompted to insert the second empty media to format (if needed) and continue the process. It should use the same cache that was created when the first media was created. Whether USB or CD/DVD, if I want to create 3 standalone media of the same task sequence the packages have to be downloaded 3 separate times, wasting time and bandwidth.

  18. Integrate git into the Task Sequence for script execution

Can we please have native git integration in an OSD task sequence for script execution? This would provide version and branch control when running scripts during an OSD task sequence

    e.g.

    1. Connect to a repo in GitHub

    2. Download scripts as a zip file

    3. Extract scripts and then execute

It would be good to select a specific branch as well (e.g. develop) so you can test script changes prior to merging to master

  19. Remove apps bundled with system image

At the moment we have to remove several apps from Windows 10 with a script after installation. For example, we have to remove Mail and Skype because we deploy Outlook and Skype for business.

As currently the Windows 10 image gets updated twice per year we also have to update the script as well because the version numbers change.

I'd like to propose an option where you can edit the properties of the image and you can deselect apps (and maybe other components as well).

  20. SCCM 1702 - OSD issue on Lenovo x270 - OSD Task Sequence Error 0x80091007 - Hash could not be matched for the downloded content.

we are doing a windows 10 upgrade project. It goes well but we have an issue with 3 Lenovo X270 laptops.

These machines could not get OS image during OSD process. The strange is that they could not get any image from sccm because the osdapplyos.exe hash checker said the hash is incorrect...

    We tried almost everything:
    - redeploying image to DP (only 3 laptops affected, others could be installed properly)
    - running hw diag (all affected laptops are healthy according to lenovo and 3party hw diag apps
    - installing on other switch, other port, other cable, on dock stationā€¦
