  1. UEFI video resolution

Not sure if this impacts multiple vendors, but Lenovo ThinkPad have this issue. When PXE booting a UEFI enabled system, the video resolution is very low (640x480 or 800x600). This may be a vendor issue, but if there is anything Microsoft can do that would be awesome. Having the resolution so low makes using MDT and other frontends difficult to use as parts of the dialog are off the screen.

  2. Remote desktop for WinPE

Provide the ability to remotely view/control a remote WinPE desktop. I need this for troubleshooting.
I normally remotely reboot a client which ends up in WinPE.

  3. Document creator/filename of Boot Media in Security -> Certificates

When creating and managing TaskSequence Media it becomes quite cumbersome to keep an eye on which boot media certificates should be blocked or not.
In our environment support staff will receive predefined *.iso images for OS Deployment to make sure they fit our standards and are tested against. While they have an exipiration date sometimes we want to revoke certain boot medias as they contain debug or testing stages. Currently the only way to manage this is to write down the Certificate GUID upon boot media creation.

Documenting the username that created the bootmedia or filename for an ISO to…

  4. More useful OSD failure window

It would be super helpful if the OSD failure window can actually provide useful information - rather than just the error code of the last executed step. At least also display the name of the step where the failure occurred. I often get a screenshot of the error code and that doesn't help me at all.

So often when I troubleshoot OSD, it is with computers in remote site. While walking someone over phone through launching command prompt, cd here, copy these files there, etc - it is such a tedious process.

I would love to see a way to…

  5. Reboot during Inplace Upgrade TS breaks the Processing

If for some reason the machine is rebooted while the Inplace Upgrade is running (ModernHostSetup.exe), the task sequence is not picked up again and stays for ever in "on progress".
The TS should detect an unwanted reboot and retry/proceed as it is possible to select with Updates.

  6. Provide end users with Estimated upgrade times

now with many more end users workign remotely, there are far more variables involved that can effect how long it takes to perform an in place upgrade.
it would be nice if there was something built in, that could basically speed test against the target sccm DP to be used, combine that with the size of the install package/task sequence references, and provide them a realistic guestimate on how long the upgrade may actually take.

  8. Task Squences for User Collections made available.

Custom Task Sequences allow for simple WMI queries for BIOS version detection. This is a nightmare when attempting to do in an Application. I am unable to deploy this task sequence to just my IT teams, and keep it hidden from regular users.

Updating status to Noted, see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/understand/find-help#send-a-suggestion for an explanation of each value.

We do have user targeted task sequence in our backlog.
I’m wondering if using Hidden Task Sequences may work for you – see task sequence variable SMSTSPreferredAdvertID
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/osd/understand/task-sequence-variables#SMSTSPreferredAdvertID

Or if the client is present on the device there is the option to use TSPLaunch.exe /TsDeploymentId: – your IT team would know the deployment ID

  9. Add support to Cloud Distribution Point for dynamically defined content

Add the support for dynamically defined content in an OSD task sequence to Cloud Distribution point. Today in an on-prem environment you can use OSDDownloadContent.exe to pre-cache or download driver packages, BIOS packages and other items that are machine specific.

However this functionality is not available on Cloud Gateway/Cloud DP. The sequence will execute but support for Dynamic Variables Task Sequences so we can modify the packageID in sequence and then then trigger the OSDDownloadDownloadPackages command to download that content while the sequence is running is not.

Back in 2018 Tweeted about this https://twitter.com/PaulEAndrews/status/1030155355236560897.

  10. Merged AD discovered object and Manual machine entry cannot boot

When there is Device object created by Group discovery method in SCCM and we create new Manual machine entry object. It can happen (when device was online during Group discovery process), that objects are merged. In that time Group discovery record's ID wins, so device cannot boot from PXE (Resource IDs are excluded - that make sense). To by pass that we have to delete all objects and recreate manual machine entry object again.

Can Microsoft change the logic, that Manual machine entry Resource ID wins, please?

  11. Option to Remove from Domain first during Apply Network Settings

Currently there is an option during Apply Network Settings to join the computer to a specific OU. If the machine already exists, it does not move it to the OU specified. Additionally, if the machine is disabled the domain join would fail.

Adding an option to remove the workstation from the domain first before joining would correct both of these issues. It would also allow for AD group membership to be cleared in the event the workstation was moving to a new department.

  12. Download Package Content - Move instead of Copy and Delete

When utilizing the "Download Package Content" TS step and choosing to download to "Configuration Manager client cache", the data is first downloaded to the temporary folder _smstasksequence. After that the data is copied to the Client Cache folder (%windir%\ccmcache) and as a last step the data is removed from the _smstasksequence folder.
This process means that before the data in _smstasksequence is deleted, 2 copies of all data reside on the disk.
This results in the need for extra free space (2x the data) for the running TS.
A move instead of copy and delete might be a better option.

  13. Run Task Sequence - Add Set Variable Options on Step

I'd like the option to set Variables on the Run Task Sequence Step itself. Often times I need to pass variables into the Task Sequence, which will be different based on which Parent TS is calling the Task Sequence "Module".

Currently I have to have a Set TS Variable Step right before I call the Sub Task Sequence so the Sub TS knows which steps to run, or how to run them.

  15. MDT Move the logic to expand Sub Task Sequences from LiteTouch.wsf into ZTIUtility.vbs's Utility Class

In MDT The Sub in LiteTouch.wsf called SubTSXML(oTS, 0Sub) which expands the SMSTaskSequenceSubTasksequence steps in the Parent Task Sequence and replaces them with the content of the Sub Task Sequence should be moved into the Utility Class inside ZTIUtility.vbs

Then the logic in GetTSXML(sTSPath) from LiteTouch.wsf gets updated to call oUtility.ExpandSubTS oTS, oSub

Additionally add in functionality into DeployWiz_Initialization.vbs in the FindTaskSequencesStep(sStepType, sScriptCmd) function replacing the lines

' For efficiency, only load the task sequence if it has changed from the last time we loaded it

    If sCachedTSID <> Property("TaskSequenceID") then
    Set oCachedTaskList = oUtility.LoadConfigFileSafe(
    Property("TaskSequenceID") & "\TS.XML"…

  16. Integrate SCCM OSD task sequence domain-join process with CyberArk secure password management.

Integrate SCCM OSD task sequence domain-join process with CyberArk secure password management. The task to use the domain-join process does not have the capability of going to the CyberArk API and retrieving an encrypted password (dynamic) during each OSD deployment.

  17. Be able to specify the deployment type when pushing applications

One of the biggest issues I have with the new applications vs packages is the inability to specify deployment types in task sequences. I usually write 2 or 3 different DT's. One silent, one noisy (For self serve) and one uninstall.

  18. Support the imaging of machines with multiple hard drives/NICS without having to uninstall/disable/remove HD's or NIC's.

Having to unplug, remove, or disable multiple NIC's/HD's is cumbersome, especially in the server environment, not to mention techs often forget.

Can you add more details on what the issues you encounter with multiple NICs/HDs, please?

  19. Allow MDT steps to be migrated when using the wizard

The migration wizard is not able to migrate "third-party" steps in a task sequence, including Microsoft Deployment Toolkit steps. For many of my customers this a huge blocker to have a smooth migrating experience from test to the production environment. MDT steps should not be seen as "third-party" and be migrated.

  20. Dynamic application and package deployment for prestage media

We are trying to use prestage media to deploy images to machines on sites with little bandwidth, but still with a network connection to the corporate network.

We have a large number of sites and our current online build uses an MDT database with Roles and Make / Model configurations for a large number of sites and hardware types.

Within each of these, we have a number of packages and applications which are installed depending on the site / model required.

This all works fine for an online build, however when using prestage media, even if we include the packages…
