  1. Enable Download Package Content step for stand-alone media

The Download Package Content step fails when used in stand-alone media. However, during media creation, the package content specified in the Download Package Content step does get added. Despite this, the step still fails.

  2. More characters in the OSD Task Sequence description

I would like more space in the OSD Task Sequence description field (and possibly even include a link) so that we can adequately tell people what's required before and after running the Task Sequence and to tell them where to find help.

At the moment, we only have 2-3 lines of text available.

Perhaps replicate what's currently available in the application model with the Localised description on the Application catalog tab.

Updating status to started. see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/understand/find-help#send-a-suggestion for an explanation of each value.

Our 2010 Technical Preview is released today.

    Doc: https://docs.microsoft.com/mem/configmgr/core/get-started/2020/technical-preview-2010
    Blog: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/configuration-manager-blog/view-syntax-highlighting-for-scripts-and-queries-in/ba-p/1740062

This release includes changes to the task sequence properties – the limit is now increased to 512 characters.
(I neglected to make the same change to the wizard, I’ll get to that in the future)

  3. Use Servicing Content for Upgrade Operating System Task

Instead of importing full Win10 media to use for Upgrade Operating System task, allow option to use Feature Updates from servicing as content for in place upgrade. One scenario this would help close the gap on is deploying branch upgrades with Task Sequences for Internet based clients. as there is no WinPE requirement. Sequence is initiated and run from within Windows, any pre- and post-install tasks requiring content can be provided by cloud DP, and content for Win10 branch build could be pulled directly from Microsoft the same as Software Updates can currently be set to fall back to MS…

  6. Add automatic Peer Cache prefill task sequence synchronization

Behavior today: You have a OSD task sequence deployed for your "normal" client installations (from DPs) and also a dedicated prefill task sequence for pushing needed OSD content on the Peer Cache source machines.
Now whenever you do changes in the "normal" TS you also have to change content and/or steps in the prefill TS manually. If you forget it, clients may download content remotely or OSD fails.
I would like to propose an automatism, e.g. right-click on the "normal" TS, with a command to synchronize all changes with the selected prefill TS.

  7. Add Option to Preserve UEFI boot order when using the “Restart Computer” task sequence step

I would like to be able to reimage computers while keeping my 3rd party encryption in place. One of the challenges with doing this using SCCM is that SCCM does not respect the UEFI boot order when using the “Restart Computer” option. When configuring the “Restart Computer” task, if the option is selected to restart to the boot image associated with the task sequence, the process changes the BCD to boot to the Boot.wim on next boot (as expected) but it also changes the computers UEFI boot order (in the bios) to put windows boot manager first in the list.

  8. Provide an option in the Boot.Wim configuration to preserve the system partition

I would like to be able to reimage computers while keeping my 3rd party encryption in place. One of the challenges with doing this using SCCM is that when SCCM restarts the computer to the Boot.Wim, the Boot.Wim formats the UEFI system partition on the primary disk at some point during the boot / loading process.

The 3rd party Pre-Boot Authentication is stored on the FAT32 UEFI System partition, which is also where Windows stores the Windows boot loader. By erasing the system partition, the Pre-Boot authentication application is removed, so that the subsequent restart following the successful execution of…

  9. WSUS Driver Package Support

Using Windows Update and hardware ID's it would be nice to make a driver package from the latest verified updates on Windows Update. Using this you could form a driver package, then also add any further updates using inf/folder.

To expand on this it would be nice to be able deploy updated drivers.

  10. Add the ability to run Software Updates with a Stand-Alone Media

Please add the ability to run software updates with a stand-alone media. This would allow us to add software updates to our reference images without having to use PXE.

  11. Enable Task Sequences to automate an existing OEM/Reset image (from OOBE)

Part of the big push for modern management, and solutions such as AutoPilot, is so that you "don't need to spend time replacing a perfectly good OS that is already on the device". Especially when dealing with clean devices such as Surface, this makes complete sense... except in cases where AutoPilot and Intune aren't used or cannot be used.

My suggestion is: Let's create an option for a PXE-enabled Task Sequence to run, and essentially perform the automation of the existing OOBE, by essentially bypassing the partitioning and WIM application steps. That way, much like the selling points for modern…

  12. Add the ability to specifiy Dev/Test versions of apps/packages/etc and integrate this into Task Sequence logic for easier Testing.

We maintain 2 copies of our task sequence. We make changes to the DEV TS then copy the entire TS contents into the Prod TS when we have completed testing. The issue we generally have is that we also have Dev/Test versions of our apps/packages/etc. If our DEV TS is referencing the DEV items, we then have to go through the Prod TS after we paste and update them back to the prod versions. In some cases, we've just added logic to test if we are in DEV and always use the DEV packages, but that adds extra processing steps…

  13. Support localization for custom user notification for high impact task sequences.

Allow language localization on task sequence User Notifications like we have for applications. currently if you change the default task sequence user notifications, they only show in the language they were entered in, not the users localized language. Same for making the task sequence name, in localized language

  14. Interactive step during OSD (or any other TS)

To be able to add an interactive step when running a TS would be useful in many cases. You might not always want to run an OSD as User Driven, but still in one step you want user input.
Not only for production, but for test purposes this would be really good.

Today, I'm running a very customized solution to make this happen.
I created this one in order for this to happen, it should be easier.

  15. Include DART in ConfigMgr Boot Images as standard

Having DART included in the boot images for ConfigMgr would make remove monitoring of OS Deployments much easier without us having to manually integrate it into the boot images.

Thanks for your feedback and suggestion.
Updating status to noted – see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/understand/find-help#send-a-suggestion for an explanation of each value.

We understand the ask and that it would reduce work for boot image maintenance. Unfortunately our team does not own DART (Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset) therefore we cannot include it as part of the boot images.

We’ll keep this item open for the suggestion to make adding the tools an option on the boot image customization tab.

  16. add "not like" in the task sequence condition, variable

Add "not like" in the task sequence condition, variable. If we have like, wouldn't it be reasonable to have not like as well? I have some scenarios that are easily resolved with a "not like" condition for a task sequence variable, but more complex with just "like"

  17. Allow 32-bit applications to run within WinPE x64. All new Windows 10 computers ship with UEFI but to flash BIOS

Allow 32-bit applications to run within WinPE x64. All new Windows 10 computers ship with UEFI. We need to flash the system BIOS to the latest version before applying the OS but all the hardware vendors (Dell, Lenovo, etc.) only provide 32-bit BIOS upgrade programs. The 32-bit limitation also causes problems when upgrading a machine from TPM 1.2 to 2.0.

Surely WinPE 10 x64 or later will provide 32-bit application support.

  18. Task Sequence - Non Terminating Error Prompt w/continue button

Some steps in my OSD are not as important as others like installing an app or two that could fail and will retry again when the client has launched post OSD. For these I use the continue on error option in the task sequence step. There are of course other uses for this.

My idea is to change continue on error to continue silently on error and add new option; continue as non-terminating error (or some other descriptive name).

The continue silently on error would do as the name suggests and continue silently on error (what the continue on error…

  19. Fix Pre-Download when using "Run another program first"

If you deploy a Task sequence that has Run another program first checked in properties and you also check pre-download content, the only thing downloaded is the program you want to run first. The program I am trying to run first is a deferral screen for OSD upgrade with user interaction. Either the pre-download should download everything in the task sequence or give you options of what you want to download. When doing OS upgrades with remote users you need everything in place before you can run the task sequence incase they drop vpn.

    Thanks,

  20. Built-in step in a task sequence to Auto login as a domain or workstation user

We have the need to customize the desktop, deploy some user specific apps, as well as setup and configure Outlook and OneDrive. It would be nice to have the ability to have the system automatically log in as the user, provided we have their credentials, so that custom scripts can continue after the task sequence finishes. This is especially true for new hires as we do have their passwords and we make them change it once we turn over the system to them.
