  1. Option to prevent user sign on during task sequence upgrade after a system restart

Due to us upgrading Office and Windows 10 versions we have noticed that a number of users are logging in and breaking the Office upgrades it would be appreciated if SCCM had an option to not allow the user the ability to sign back into the device until the task sequence has finished running.

An example of this is when the task sequence runs in WINPE mode.

  2. Task Sequence Right-click option to remove unused content

Task sequences have the right-click option to distribute related content to DP's and they should have the option to remove unneeded (i.e. not used by any other task sequence/deployment) content from distribution points when expiring old task sequences.

  3. Application installation inside Task-Sequence

It would be nice to install the Applications assigned to device and to Primary user inside the Task-Sequence.
    Criteria could be followed:
    - Install Deployment (not available)
    - not retired
    - last Version / Revision of Application / DeploymentType

Maybe, some more criteria are possible or required :-)

    Benefit:
If the Task-Sequence finished, Client is ready to use without waiting of install applications aso.

  4. ipv6 relay encapsulation support

This will probably be very low prio for most people, but here goes. when SCCM PXE is done in an IPv6 network, where DHCP is handled over a dhcp relay, PXE boot may fail with error "invalid packet structure".
cause analysis led to the following statement:

"Your relay agent is encapsulating the original DHCPv6 packet in a relay-forward message (12). This is currently not supported by the SCCM PXE server. The SCCM PXE server currently only supports bare forwarded DHCPv6 packets.

DHCPv6 message 12 is a quite tricky for the current SCCM PXE server because you can have nested message12s."

  5. Task sequence deployment to run when no user is logged on.

It would be great to have the same user experience conditions available in Application deployments for Task Sequence deployments. That way we could deploy required in-place upgrades of Win10 that will install once the user logs off and not rely on the user to start the Available deployment themselves.

  6. Allow a local user (admin or not an admin) to be added in a Task Sequence

It is possible to *** a local user/group to a local machine during OSD using the net command or PowerShell but it is impossible to do this so that the password is encrypted. PowerShell requires the key so it has to be made on the same machine but that's not always possible. Net command requires the password in plain text, also not desirable.

  7. Use TS Variable in Step name

Status message viewer is great for troubleshooting. Sometimes it would be great to use a TS variable in the Step Name, then you can see values really quick in the log.

For example create a "Run command line" that does nothing, but the name of the step provide valuable information about something, like if the Pc is connected to VPN.

  8. Allow TSDebugMode to run as SYSTEM, removing requirement to elevate

Provide OPTION to allow the TS Debugger to run as SYSTEM instead of prompting for elevation. I get the security implications, but provide us the ability to choose.

This would also allow you to enable the Command Prompt option via the Debugger when in the Full OS, unlike now where it is not available.

    Perhaps add another Variable TSDebugModeSYSTEM

I really like the debugger an use it all the time, but due to that limitation, I still have to leverage ServiceUI and other "tricks" to be able to do testing and debugging of our Task Sequences that Start in theā€¦

  9. Make sure OSD checks Application Conditions before flagging content not available on DP

We are using a child Task Sequence to deploy applications to 4 different "environments". One of them only has a few of the apps, so the rest of the apps are not available on that specific DP/DP Group. Even if I have set conditions for the application Groups and/or steps, that this particular base TS should not use most of the apps/packages, the OSD fails on content not found on DP for packages the base TS should not need, but that are included in the Child Task Sequence.

  10. Search Child Task Sequences from Main

Task Sequence search and child task sequences are great, but a heavily modularized task sequence makes search significantly less useful. I would love to see the child task sequence meta data loaded when the main is loaded so that it could be included in search information. Perhaps the child task sequence is shown in read only mode in the data pane when the child task sequence is clicked so one could identify where the search information has been found in the child task sequence.

  11. A feature to "No longer use the MAC address for PXE boot and client registration. "

Right now we have to register all our port replicators and add them manually to the list : "Ignore these hardware ID's for the purpose of PXE boot and client registration".

Well, that works. But since we register all our clients manually with the UUID/BIOSGUID. Wouldn't it be nice to have a feature to disable registration of the MAC-address all together? Almost none of our new hardware has an ethernet adapter so we'll be relying on port-replicators almost exclusively.

It would save us a lot of pain. Because no matter how often I remind people, they simply forget to administerā€¦

  12. DCR: OSD Task Sequence - Create Baseline of existing TS and allow Remediation

From my field experience I have seen many times OS Deployments which did not really succeed, because of Continue on error conditions. In most cases the reason was to not end up with systems staying in Provisioning Mode. I know some guys just "re-deploy" the TS with checks if everything was done properly. This brought up the idea - why not using Compliance Settings for this purpose? At least to check if the system meets the Desired Baseline. Everything needed should be stored in the Task Sequence anyway and it would allow a "Report" summary client side after Deployment.

  13. Re-think task sequence policy download in OS

Currently deployed task sequences create a lot of policy download and slow down the initialisation of a workstation. If they worked like in bootable media, or another way - I don't know if say downloading the TS policies as a zip would help?

  14. OSD - task sequence media

when creating a stand alone media, a option to update an existing ISO would be great. also, would be great if you could create an iso and an extract of the iso (like on MDT) so when you copy the files using a slow link connection you only need to copy the changed files and not all files.

  15. OSD - task sequence media - network

the task sequence media has been created for offline scenarios, so the data does not get copied to the sccm. it would be great to have a task sequence media that is online, so all information is also sent and the checks also happen, like a boot image does, the only difference would be instead of downloading the software from the DP it would use the local usb/dvd disk

  16. Let the TSAgent consume enough RAM in VMs configured with Dynamic Memory for OSD compatibility checks to succeed

Setup: Hyper-V Gen2 VM configured with 1GB startup RAM, Min 512MB, Max 4GB.

I was testing servicing Windows 10 1511 to Windows 10 1607 on my VM and the compatibility check failed because the VM was only consuming 1560MB at the time of the compatibility check. I'd think that it would be able to tell if the VM's maximum RAM value was higher than the minimum RAM requirement for Windows 10.

  17. Install Software updates TS step improvements

The "Install Software Updates" TS step could use some improvements, including adding an option to run a package after the reboots (before update step continue), and customizing the restart time-out and messages. The status messages are also pretty vague. For example, we know that after it installs the updates it can check for updates again, but it doesn't actually say when it's doing that. I've also noticed some blank black screens showing up for at least a minute as it is about to reboot.

  18. Fix OSD Re-run Behavior

    Consider the following...

You Deploy an OSD TS to a Lab and the Lab images Successfully. Next year you wish to Refresh that same Lab. You deploy this TS to the lab with the default 'Re-run Behavior' and it immediately shows as Successful because it was run before. You do another schedule and switch the 'rerun behavior' to 'Always rerun.' Lab images, grabs policy, images, grabs policy, images.........

This seems like a huge flaw to me especially for those environments that Refresh certain Labs annually (K-12, Education). I'll now have to remember each Summer to either create a new TSā€¦

  19. Allow running PowerShell script synchronously during Task Sequence

When using the Run PowerShell script step in a Task Sequence, the Task Sequence waits for the completion of the script before continuing.

It would be useful to have a "Run Synchronously" option to allow the Task Sequence to continue to the next step without waiting for the script to complete.

At the moment I use the command line CMD /C START Powershell.exe to achieve this goal.

  20. Ability to see/change available task sequences list order

A computer may be member of several collections. When we deploy multiple task sequences to different collections, available task sequences list changes when computer is booting from PXE. So, we need to check the list order, after deploying new task sequence. Also, first task sequence is selected automatically and users are inclined to select the first one.
It is now alphabetic order, but we should see the list order without booting PXE and maybe we can change the order or set a task sequence to the top.
